It's been a dozen years or so since I was in Myanmar. And, besides for tea leaf salad, I don't remember the food particularly well, at least when compared to some of its better known neighboring cuisines like Vietnamese and Lao. Since that trip, I've had Burmese food in Silver Spring and in Buffalo, NY, which had several Burmese restaurants at the time.So my familiarity with the cuisine isn't all that strong, but its definitely not non-existent. And, I was delighted when I spotted the (weird) sign at Lotte Market on Xmas Day. (Why the stars of David? Why?!)When we did get to try the food a week or so ago, we went with the tea leaf salad, naturally, and a chicken noodle soup. (Is chicken soup the reasons for the Jewish star? Read on.)The tea leaf salad was sort of the way I remembered. It's such a unique taste, and I can't really compare it to anything else I've had anywhere, and I've eaten a lot in a lot of places. Besides the tea leaves with their unusual taste, there was green leaf lettuce, Roma cherry tomatoes, and fried shallots or garlic. I'd order this again. The chicken soup was ok, at first, but it was one of those dishes that just got better the more you ate it. It was very homemade and homey. It had glass noodles. The chicken wasn't "real" chicken, but seemed to be some sort of pre-made chicken meatballs cut up. While it was warm and comforting, I'd try to order something new the next time. The people who own the place are a delight and so kind. While waiting for food, we were brought an interesting green tea. (I have no idea if the same that was used in the salad.) They brought food to our table, and made sure all was fine. Really they couldn't do enough. I always want to thank people like this who take the time to share their food in a new place. As others have said, the seating area is very cold, even with the little heat lamps by each table. As someone of the star of David persuasion, I had to ask about the sign. The owner told me that she was Christian and that the star was "good luck." I hope that works for them.

Myanmar Thai is a food stall INSIDE Lotte Plaza Market, a grocery store. I wish that had been clearer before my visit, because it would have saved me a ton of time and confusion. After a hair appointment nearby, I was excited to have stumbled across Myanmar Thai on Yelp because Burmese cuisine is hard to find in the Baltimore area. Ordering for pickup on the Yelp app was easy, but finding the restaurant was not. The address led me to a strip mall, and none of the overhead signage matched this restaurant's name. I called the Apple Maps-listed number and it connected me to someone who wasn't affiliated with the restaurant and promptly hung up. I walked into another restaurant in the strip to ask an employee if she knew where it was located and she had never seen or heard of it. Frustrated, got back on Yelp and found a menu image from a previous Yelp review, which included the correct number. I called and a staff member explained they're inside Lotte Plaza Market on the left side of the store. Now for the food. The tea leaf salad was fresh and flavorful, with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, Thai chilies, fresh garlic, crunchy fried garlic, beans, dried shrimp, peanuts and lime. It was missing some of the pungent umami flavors I love in a tea left salad, but it was still tasty and had distinct ginger notes. I'd have this again.Chicken Curry: The portions were large and the chicken was tender but slightly dry. Out of roughly 10 pieces, I could only eat two because I could not tolerate the excessive oiliness. While I learned this dish is traditionally pretty oily, it just didn't work for me.

Owners dishing up some authentic burmese / thai food that looks, and to me tastes unamericanized. Initially, I had no idea that the creamy yellow in my dish today was made with chickpea flour, serving as the broth. #35 Warm Tofu Noodle soup.Oils, chili, shallots, peanuts, and chicken, paired well with the rice noodles buried under the dish. Top presentation of the plating was beautiful. As you can see with the name of the dish, the best time is to eat it served up fresh and hot. Waiting will change the flavor. They recommended to try the pad thai next. Worth a second visit!

Authentic Burmese takeout spot inside Lotte. The food was unique and super flavorful. Had the #35 warm tofu with chicken and noodles that came with 2 sauces, dal, and soup all for $10.99, #35 tea leaf salad which had so many yummy textures from the crunchy nuts and crispy beans and garlic (comes with spicy fresh chillies and garlic), and cooked to order warm Burmese donuts. The lady at the service counter was super sweet in explaining the best way to eat and compose everything when you get home and the takeout packing was 10/10 with everything separated so that the food made it home perfectly.

Hidden gem inside the Lotte supermarket, one of the most unique and delicious cuisines I have ever had. This restaurant specializes in Thai and Myanmar (Burmese) food, which is something you do not see much of at all. Perfect for a snack while you are shopping, there are seats and tables where you can enjoy the food. The service was super friendly as well! I ordered the Burmese donuts which were super unique. Similar to a mochi donut, but much lighter and served with this plum sauce that made them addicting. When eaten fresh and hot, they are the perfect breakfast/ snack! While waiting, the owner served me some green tea which paired perfectly as well. I recommend everyone going here to experience the food and culture of a country not many know too much about!

As someone who was born in Myanmar, I was THRILLED when I found out about this place via google. I headed right over and got mohinga ( ), ohno kauk swe, shan noodles, laphet thote, and nangyi thote. It was for my boyfriend and me and keep in mind he'd never really had Burmese food. He liked everything, even mohinga which I think is more of an acquired taste if you're not from Myanmar. Burmese food may not be aesthetically pleasing/appealing but the flavor and taste, UNMATCHED. 1)Their mohinga is so authentic and flavorful, it even has banana stem. 9/10 without a doubt 2) ohno kauk swe 8.5/103) tofu salad 9/104) nangyi thote 9/10You get the idea. Nothing is below 8.5! And I've tried about 70% of the Burmese menu. It is a family owned business run by a lovely Burmese couple. The prices are extremely reasonable. I love the fact that I won't have to drive an hour to go to mandalay any longer. You can't really call yourself a foodie until you've had Burmese food. Go try everything on the Burmese menu
