Matthew's 1600

Matthew's 1600 is another locally owned restaurant in Catonsville that took us a long time to give it a try. Matthew's is as hot and cold as they come. On our most recent visit a few weeks ago we had one of these hot and cold experiences. They are advertising a burger special on their outdoor sign. But the burger special isn't available to order due to the season. Then why is the burger special on the outdoor sign if you aren't honoring it? Fine. We ordered off of the menu. My partner ordered a seafood dish and it was delicious. I ordered a meatball sub platter and it was awful. The meatballs were a weirdly spicy flavor not mentioned on the menu, the bread was mushy, the sauce was clumpy, and the cheese was white american cheese which does not belong on a meatball sub. We were both very tired that day and I just ate the food and shut up because while it was the worst meatball sub I ever had it was still edible and I was starving after a long day at work. I didn't have it in me to complain.The ambiance is cute and casual dining with a local flavor. Lots and lots of parking. Clean bathrooms. Some of the staff is friendly and some are sort of snooty. I have been here probably a handful of times now for dinner and also for a catered work party. I don't think I will find myself ever saying I want to eat dinner here again after that meatball sub. Sorry Matthew's 1600.

We've been coming to Matthew's for many years, sometimes weekly for trivia night. Food and service has been good and consistent. The Pasta Annapolis is a delicious seafood dish that I get frequently. My wife got the meatloaf this time and she said it was very good. Matthew's has a nice U-shaped bar. There's a decent cocktail and beer list. All things considered, this is one of the better restaurants in Catonsville.

Food, Service, and the ambiance was amazing! Food tasted great and the drinks were spot on. We will be back.

I looked at the menu and quickly chose a monte cristo to eat. I was intrigued by the "crush bar" on the cocktails menu. My first time to Maryland (that I remember in any case) do I decided I needed to try a flight of crushes. Orange, Creamsicle, Pineapple, and Strawberry Lemon. And you will have a hard time convincing me they even have alcohol..just yummy juice! Needless to say, my lunch was fantastic. And I read about the history of the location on the menu, and this place wins on all counts!! The service was great, and with a building from the 180's, how could we get better atmosphere? A great stop in our road trip!

I hadn't been here in years but I did remember they had great service, and they didn't disappoint me this time as well. We were able to sit in a private dining room and the decor was very classy and comfortable. The waitress made some recommendations that we followed and I'm glad we did. The food was good and very much Baltimore staples. I will definitely be back again soon.

Yesterday I celebrated a very special birthday and topped off the day with dinner at Matthews 1600 in Catonsville. I have enjoyed lunches there but never dinner. I chose it because I craved prime rib and a baked potato and COULD NOT FIND IT on local menus. I got sidetracked, though, because rockfish was on the menu. YUM! That beat prime rib. However, it came with a side of rice, corn, and crab with Old Bay, a spice my tummy can no longer handle. I ordered the potato to substitute, but in addition they made the rice dish with no Old Bay just for me. OMG, was it DELICIOUS!! (I think it would make a nice entree by itself if you beef up the crab a little.). So then it was dessert time and my birthday, so how could I resist? They have a dessert consisting of two of the biggest chocolate chip cookies in memory served as a sandwich with ice cream. My husband and I split it. Yum! We could barely walk out! This was one of the best meals out I have had in a VERY long time!

Matthew's 1600 is a convenient and cozy restaurant. I came previously months ago for cocktails and was able to meet one of the owners. I told him I would come back with friends for lunch sometime. I was looking forward to returning however it was disappointing. The food was barely warm and just average. We ordered a Crab Cake sandwich and Cod Fish Filet with fries. The crab cake was broiled but it didn't seem cooked. It was cold and mushy. My friends said the Cod was okay but not warm and needed seasoning.The manager stopped at some tables to talk to customers but he didn't come to our table to ask how our meals were. I would have told him the food was cold and disappointing.

Food is consistently good here and I like that they have new options each week. Staff is warm, friendly and attentive.

I have been to this restaurant a few time and had good experiences overallI ordered the surf and turf on10/20/2024 and when I got home the crab cake wasnt there. I called the restaurant to advise and also let them know of the price on the website was the same as I was charged. I went back to the restaurant, and they did advise the site was not updated with pricing.I was a bit disappointed, however management was so great and apologetic and explain the situation. They said they could quickly make me 2 crab cakes and provides a discount. In the end I was pleased more so with the customer service, them taking accountability and offer a win win solution.
