La Casona

Reading all the reviews on this place, I was worried but I also wanted to have a late lunch near the canal to see the lighted boats for the holidays. Mission accomplished and we enjoyed our meal! They were not very busy when we arrived, around 3 pm on a Saturday in December. The outside tables were about half way filled but we didn't want to chance the chill. We were seated at a window table and chips and salsa were brought immediately. We both had a margarita, mine a frozen watermelon one, yum. Chicken enchiladas for me, beef for him. Came with beans, rice, lettuce salad, sour cream and guac. Everything was good. They also have a pretty decent looking bar area with a few tv screens. Would love to come back here in the spring and dine outdoors!

Well my,my,my. This is our first tip here. We just stopped in for a margarita while waiting. I opened up their reviews and noticed they've really gone down hill. Party of 4, got a pitcher of frozen margarita & chips with salsa. I specifically asked for homemade extra hot salsa-I received a bottle of habanero hot sauce that wasn't hot at all. Their house salsa was ok, chips light & fresh. If we haven't had plans to eat somewhere else I was actually curious as to what the food tasted like. Maybe next time.

Good margaritas and okay food. The service was a bit slow, but I think our server was only 1 of 2 for the entire night, so we won't blame him. We went during Alive at Five, so it wasn't super packed, and we were sat pretty quickly.Our food was nothing special in terms of Mexican cuisine. I ordered hard tacos and the bottoms were soggy upon arrival. Not much more to say beyond that for the food. We ordered a pitcher of the premium marg which was good, but I've had better. I don't love giving low reviews, but unless they up their game I probably wouldn't eat here again.

Food is bad:1. Guacamole had cheese in it (what??! Sacrilege)2. Pico de gallo was soggy and at least 2 days old3. Waiter forgot my tamale 4. Tres leches has chocolate syrup on it (why??!)5. The cheese enchiladas we ordered were not melted. The cheese was still separate shreds of cheese. 6. Chips were stale and cold. Salsa was water. The service was not great. But the food--the food was terrible. And not just the appearance and delivery. The taste of the food was bad. It was shamefully bad. It's sad because they have such a prime location on the water front. But the food is so sad and awful. Hopefully this post makes them improve.

Worst. Service. Ever. I tried to think the worst dine experience I have ever had in my life and I think it's this restaurant. 0 star actually. We were seated pretty quickly. Then No menu. No drinks. No chips and salsa. No waiter checking on us. They just kept on walking by us and giving everyone else chips and salsa and their service. About 10 mins in, I had to be like "hey? Menu?!" And the waiter was like okay. They brought menu for us and left. Hello? Not going to take our drink order?Waiters just kept on walking by us. Finally we alerted them asking for water and chips & salsa. They brought after a while. I became annoyed because this is not how anyone dinner experience should be. At all. My kid accidentally spilled the water all over the table. They saw it. They did not come to clean it. I had to ask them to clean. Why do I need to dictate them how to do their job? It was as if they didn't care about us at all. My hubby ordered a margarita & I ordered dinner for us all and my husband added, "more chips and salsa please." The waiter nodded her head. After a while, Nothing. He asked again after a few minutes. "Okay" was the response. Nothing. Our dinner and his drink came. No chips and salsa so my husband asked for it again. "Okay" was what we got but still no chips and salsa. 4 times. We just gave up. Oh, we also had to ask for utensils after getting our food. My veggie quesadilla was interesting. Baby carrots not cut into pieces and stem of broccoli, not the head of broccoli. Thick cut of zucchini. So unimpressed. Hubs' chicken was dry. He said the sauce was good but not the enchiladas. We. Will. NOT. Be. Returning. Mainly because their service was the worst ever for us.

I'll get straight to the point.... Not a Mexican grill, the taste and the menu state Mexican fusion. There's a little bit of Central American and Peruvian in the menu. We waiting 15 minutes from being seated to someone taking our drink order. Then another 40 min to get our food. It isn't super busy, so not sure why it took so long. Ordered the chicken Tacos a la Brasa, flavor was ok. It came with a side of charro beans, that were COLD! Not acceptable. We also ordered the fajitas... meh in flavor. Our food was dropped off and our server didn't check on us once after. Won't be back here again.

I've been here three times in order to give them an opportunity to get better but they haven't figured it out.The last time I went that made me write my own information down on the list for a call back for when my table was ready and and hour and a half went by with no call. My first time I went there it was me an there other friends and at the end of the meal we asked to spilt the check and the waiter gave us attitude saying we should have told him at the beginning but, it was obvious and if it was an issue he should have asked. Don't order the pitchers, they fill the whole thing up to the top with ice to make sure you don't get your money worth. Overall disappointing and in my honest opinion In wouldn't be surprised if they go out of business if they don't get their act together.

I have written a few reviews, and it's been a while since I have written one. But this experience prompted me to get active again in the review scene. We started out going to a nearby Mexican restaurant that was packed, with a line that had a 20 minute wait. Then we thought we would walk a half a block to try La Casona, that didn't have a wait and had about two active tables with customers (we should have read the room). This is probably the worse review that I have written. First of all, if the rule is location, location, location, then I would have to bump up the rating. It's a very good location, right on the beautiful creek in the heart of Carroll Creek Park in Frederick; but that's the only thing good about it. Slow, but perhaps adequate service, cold food (well the enchiladas were tepid, but the rice was actually cold), and sleezy 18% "service charge" added to your check -- with an additional line for you to add even more tip. About that service charge - I consider that the tip. But just be honest and say 18% gratuity has been automatically added to your check. I can accept that. If the restaurant want's 18% more, then just increase the prices 18%. But they are hoping that you will just look at the bottom line (ignore the line items) and tip on top of that... that's really sleezy. Pathetic. Such a shame that a location this good would have a restaurant that's so bad. Actually puts a damper on the Frederick experience. At the end, my total for two enchilada orders was $35.94! What !!!????

what someone else said is spot on...We tried La Casona Mexican Grill for the first time and we were highly disappointed. Everything was 1 star...the chips and salsa, the drinks, the entree, the pace at which food was delivered...we will not be going back.

We went there because it was past 9 pm on a Saturday and there weren't a lot of restaurants open in that area at that time and were pleasantly surprised. I had the chori pollo and asked for refried beans on the side. My husband had the chicken and chorizo fajitas. Everything was delicious and the portions were big. I couldn't finish my plate.
