When I want good carryout, I often venture out to Kenny's from DC. My last two visits however, have had issues with the online ordering system. Both times my order either wasn't initially received causing a longer wait, or I was charged twice. The food is generally good so it will not necessarily deter me from going. I will however consider easier ways to order and pay, like calling in and paying upon arrival or with cash.

Normally I would rate 5 stars, because I come here often with my husband and there's never any problems. However, I came in yesterday and ordered my usual orange chicken with rice, and there was a CATERPILLAR in my orange chicken Won't be going back for a long time if ever, that ruined orange chicken for me

I think this place is one of the best Asian restaurants around. The same food, how it's prepared would twice the price downtown DC.

Not sure why this place has low reviews however I have a couple thoughts and perspectives given I've been a patron here for a little over 3 years:1) people are probably expecting too much from a carry-out.2) people are probably ordering foods they shouldn't be ordering from a carry-out.Case in point, you wouldn't order a seafood dinner from a roadside gas station; if you want seafood you should venture to a restaurant which specializes in seafood or in the least go to a restaurant that has a reputation for good seafood. Kenny's Sub Shop has good food and for a carry-out it is one of the best in the DMV. As long-time carry-out customer in the DMV I've learned to stick to a very specific script at most carry-outs. It's like the saying when you've found something good don't let it go; that's how I approach the menu at carry-outs. On this occasion I ordered the Shrimp & Broccoli. They never cease to produce a quality Shrimp & Broccoli. Or Chicken & Broccoli for that matter. The broccoli is always fresh and shrimp is the freshest and biggest you'll get from any carry-out in the DMV. This is particularly important because for a dish that has a brown sauce it's easy to end up with soggy broccoli if the broccoli isn't fresh or has been sitting in its own brown sauce. Kenny's brown sauce is not overpowered with oil nor is it too salty like some other carry-outs which are heavy handed on the full-flavored soy sauce and salt. About that food "script" I referenced; the restaurant's name is a misnomer because I don't think subs are their speciality nor do I ever hear people order or talk about their subs in the 3 years I've been a patron at this restaurant. However here are some dishes which I have ordered from Kenny's on previous occasions and consistently received a quality product: General Tso's Chicken, Shrimp Lo Mein, Shrimp Egg Foo Young, Singapore Noodles (mei fun), chicken nuggets and French fries, chicken wings and French fries and shrimp and combination fried rice. All are common and relatively simple dishes which increases the likelihood you'll get a good product every time. Their French fries used to be too greasy and I ended up not ordering them for over a year however the last 4 occasions in 2021 the French fries have been perfect. I'd stay away from the egg rolls (all varieties) because they are way too greasy. I've intentionally purchased egg rolls the last 4 times here over a 6 month period (in order to prove myself wrong) and each time they were greasy and over fried . That is probably an indication of refrying. Also, Kenny's often gives away free lemonade iced tea mixed drinks with orders of $20 or more however I also stay away from those because they are too sweet for my liking. For those who might be discouraged by the multiple low reviews citing poor fried seafood experiences - So, considering this isn't a seafood joint, please think twice about ordering any kind of fried (or steamed) seafood from here that you are otherwise accustomed to at another local seafood restaurant or other carry-out with a good seafood reputation. There are plenty local restaurants in the vicinity (the entire DMV really) which serve traditional seafood with standard expectations. Case in point - I've had their fried fish and cheese sub and fried jumbo fish sandwich on multiple occasions (more than 5) and I stopped ordering them from here altogether because the fish is fried too hard regardless of how many times you request the fish to be fried soft. I would give this place 4 stars however because of the inconsistency with subs (including Steak and Cheese) and egg rolls which are staples at DMV carry-outs, I'm giving it a 3 star review. A good restaurant for sure and customer service is usually some of the best you'll receive from a DMV carry-out.

We ordered six egg rolls, General Tso's wings, fries, shrimp And broccoli, and fried rice. The chicken was days old, dark on the inside, and dry it tasted like it had spent days in the refrigerator. The shrimp egg rolls were dripping in oil. So much so that it was a pond of grease at the bottom of the bag. When we bit into the roll after draining it, the shrimp tasted vile and rotten. I called the restaurant immediately only to be told that a manager would return my call in 5 minutes. An hour later no one had called. I called back and was told the manager was too busy to speak with me. I am filing a health department report because I believe they are intentionally selling spoiled food. Horrible experience. Eat at your own risk.
