Keith & Sons Soul Food Cafe

My experience with Keith & Sons has been on average a 2*. The last couple times I purchased food from here was enough for me to believe that is the best they will have to offer. The customer service is lukewarm. The last couple visits they ran out of traditional soul food sides. The second from the last time I visited I thought perhaps it was because I arrived on a late Sunday afternoon an hour before close and understandably so the sides ran out. However, I visited the following Sunday around 4pm and again they were out of mac & cheese AND sweet potatoes. Sides are so essential with soul food and without them is it really a real soul food experience? That's part of the reason I haven't written a review to this point and hesitated writing one without having tried their traditional soul food items. The flavors are inconsistent as the seasoning can be considerably lacking at times on too many items which is disappointing. The attention to detail also has been disappointing. Soggy fried chicken, bland pork ribs, tasteless sweet potato pie, bland mac & cheese, etc.. NOTE: I doctored the ribs up at home with Sweet Baby Rays and they were absolutely delicious. I do this every time with their pork ribs. I've been to similar quality soul food restaurants in the DMV and my conclusion is these restaurant cooks are not using traditional southern United States soul food recipes. I want to give them another try, perhaps around lunchtime.

Keith and Sons has a rep for the best breakfast in town. But long lines and lack of coffee has me questioning it. 30 minutes to get served and grits that were solid was the downside. Toast with creamy butter and a "see your food" business model was the positive. Eat in is an afterthought without utensils and again-no coffee. But clean. And the two people serving were hardworking and working to please (what happened to the Sons, Keith? You needed their help!!)

This place is amazing. The decor is bold and unapologetically correct. The food was fresh and tasty on day one and day two leftovers. I am definitely going back for the fish, rice, and gravy.

I've heard a lot about Keith and sons, so I finally tired it out. The wings were well seasoned and fried to perfection. The macaroni and cheese wasn't my favorite. It wasn't very cheesy, was dry, and lacked flavor. The sweet potatoes were just ok, I wouldn't get them again. In all, I'm going to give them another try because I've heard such great things and maybe it was just not a good sides day. The staff wasn't overly friendly and the service was just ok.

Very popular for people who live in the area. They area at times too busy to worry about diet restrictions, ie pork bacon when I asked for turkey. No Air Condition in the customer area, so be sure to call in your order. With thousands of people passing through weekly I would assume they could put more effort into the decoration and curb appeal.

All I can say is WOW. First time here I knew it had to be good based on the line of people. I walk in and there was about 15 to 20 . I almost walked out but after watching them make the orders I was so impressed. They are not afraid to give you anything. I ordered the Big Breakfast which was 3 scrambled eggs 2 sides and a choice of meat plus toast. I was in heaven. So again watching them making other orders I seen the shrimp and I wanted some to this place is the spot. The entire time people were just rolling in there was a steady line at least 20 deep . I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the area.

Any time I visit my sister I have to come to Keith's! We usually come for breakfast which is what we did on this visit and I always order a BLT on white bread with mayo because I love BLT sandwiches and they give you so much bacon! Everything on the sandwich was delicious and the tomatoes were so fresh. I also ordered the home fries, which are always delicious and the beef sausage. We also had a concert that night so we went ahead and ordered our entrées for dinner (easily reheated in the air fryer). We got the six piece fried chicken wings and my sister got a fried pork chop sandwich. We were able to split the chicken wings and still have a couple left after we ate them the first time. My friends ended up going to Keith's later that evening and picked up our dinner sides (large cabbage and large yams are enough to share between 2 ppl). Both of the sides were amazing and this was my first time ever having any of the dinner options. The cabbage with seasoned so well as were the yams. I did try the mac & cheese that my friend ordered any honestly it wasn't the best (needed more seasoning) but combining the mac with the yams still made a great flavor combination.Be sure that when you get up to the counter to order you order everything you want at once (even if it doesn't need to be cooked - like a sandwich or waffle). Value is certainly something you do not have to worry about when you come here. Always a stop that I'd recommend to anyone!

Food was just okay. My Mac was missing seasoning and cheese. Green beans were good and flavored. Fried chicken was okay, also lacking flavor and seasoning.

Quick service,good quality food with great tatse and portion sizes. The prices is worth the amouamount of food.

The food was so good for dinner that I had to come back the next day for breakfast. I've seen many opinions of the food so here is mine. If your looking for some soul food--- this place is for youIf you don't mind seasoning on your food (I know I do!) --this place is for you. If your from the south or the Caribbean islands and you want something that taste like yo Mud (if u don't know thin ya douno) dipped her big toe in---this place is for you!My son and I almost ran back up here and smacked the people in the back after we tasted our food!For dinner we had Salmon Cakes with Candied Yams & rice and gravy. I got what I craved... chitterlings and Mac N Cheese Meatloaf. Then I went back for breakfast and tore up someFish and grits and eggs. Sooo yes, I loved it! The portions were huge! The morning crew was nicer than the evening crew. But I didn't go to make friends. I went to eat and the food was BANGING!
