I walked down the street today to find that Island Flavor Cuisine has moved in through the restaurant-revolving-door of 353 N Calvert. Serving a wide range of traditional Jamaican cuisine and catering mainly to the courthouse lunch pack, the shop is run by a really friendly Jamaican lady that will walk you through the menu and show you the wares.I asked for some spicy noise to pound back the cold Bmore winds. She recommended the goat curry platter ($8.50) which came on a bed of red beans and rice with a side of steamed cabbage and a few slices of fried plantain. The goat curry was delicious. Tender hunks of goat meat served on the bone were well flavored but not spicy at all. The sauce was great and well-textured but sadly, the red beans and rice were disappointingly flavorless. It left me trying to ration my bites with sauce and meat to flavor all the rice. The fried plantains on the other hand were the best I've ever had. Slightly gummy from caramelization on the outside, tender and smooth inside, they beat any weak bananas I ate on Spanish III field trips or even in Costa Rica.I definately will give this place another go, the jerk chicken looked ridiculous. Give this place a shot, just make sure your beans and rice get sauced up good and try 'em plaintains.

This review is for the new location in Middle River. It was very tasty and the staff is super friendly. I've gotten the curry chicken and stew with rice and peas and it was divine! Definitely try them out because it's a hidden gem.

I come from a Jamaican background, I grew up on oxtails, curry chicken, jerk chicken, brown stew chicken and fish, plantians, all that good stuff. And let me tell you DO NOT WASTE YOU $$$ HERE. This food taste water down and flavorless compared to the real deal. Worst jamaican resturant I've ever been to thus far. I need to move back to new york city where jamaican food is made with love!

Eh. My husband and I ordered jerk chicken from here and it was editable, but nothing spectacular. The beans and rice were dry and flavorless and the spinach just tasted like defrosted frozen spinach with no seasoning. The plantains were okay, but kind of mushy.

have given this place several tries because co workers wanted to go . If you every tried any spots in the Park Heights area, you are not going to like this place!! The portions are very small all taste bland. Only worth trying if you can get the lunch deall for 6.99. Curry chicken / goat and plantians are probally the best thing. DONT GET THE OXTAIL!! I luv Jamaican cuisine you wil be very disappointed. I hope they read this.

I was excited to order from this place once I found the flyer in my building. They were out of two things I wanted but I was able to order up to $13. They would not deliver my food because it did not make the $15 requirement. I said I would have loved to order the other two items from the menu, but they are not available. As a courtesy they could have delivered my order. It was $2 under the requirement. That's not great customer service at all!!

On my way home, I had a taste for some home cook Jamaican food. I decided to stop at Island Flavors. I ordered Curry Chicken it came with Cabbage rice and peas. It was so delicious. Ms. Maxine is so welcoming and very nice. I will be returning soon for some good cornmeal porridge. I would recommend this place to anyone.

For fun I stopped by and picked up 3 platters to bring back to the office and share. Goat curry, ox tail and jerk chicken. HOLY CRAP! Each one was fantastic. Maybe Brian got a bad batch of rice and beans, but, ours were delicious.Don't be a coward, go try something new. I don't think you will go to your grave wishing you had eaten more Subway sandwiches.

I walked in ordered the Brown Chicken special because I couldn't resist. After paying for my order, I looked down to see 6-8 mouse droppings on the counter where my food had just come from. I immediately began to panic thinking I am not eating this, as a matter of fact he's going to refund my money. Now, at this point he TOO remembered me from the week prior. I said, I changed my mind, my daughter already got me lunch. He looked at me, vaguely, picked up the phone to make a call. I said, o.k., the real reason that I don't want the food is because of this. I pointed to the mice poo, at which time, he immediately refunded me my money. As I departed, I began to get sick to my empty stomach, when I saw a sheriff office employee, I told him my experience and he thanked me and walked away. I am writing this review because I DON'T want anyone to get this lil H-Poly bug, parasites if u ask me, because it's hard to get rid of. Moral of the story, DON'T, DON'T, DON'T eat at islands flavors cuisine unless you want mice poop your gravy......a hidden secret that no man can pray over and get rid of, In Jesus, NAme, I say, Eat at Home, D.I.Y. style.
