I wanted to like this place, I really did. We arrived and the place was practically empty. Yet we still had ***incredibly*** slow service. We ordered 2 beers, one came out after 5 minutes, the other after 25 minutes.The food was meh at best. First, we waited for almost 40 minutes for it. Then, it was all dry like it had sat under a heat lamp for half an hour. Very disappointing.We heard one of the staff get schooled because another customer just got up and left when no one ever approached his table.Oh, then there's the music. Death metal at 1:00 on a Sunday afternoon? Really?We won't be back. Don't waste your time.

Highland Local in Highland, MD, is a true gem in the community. This charming spot has won my heart with its incredible staff and the welcoming atmosphere that makes every visit special. A standout feature of this wonderful establishment is the owner, Jen, whose passion and warmth are evident in every aspect of the experience. She's truly incredible, and I miss her presence whenever I'm away.If you find yourself at this delightful watering hole, do yourself a favor and order the French Dip. It's a decision you won't regret. The sandwich is crafted to perfection, with juicy, tender meat and a flavorful au jus that complements it beautifully. Every bite is a testament to the quality and care put into their food.The staff here deserve a round of applause. Second time visiting, this time for dinner on a Sunday night. The dining and bar space is always clean and straightforward, which I like.Our server Brian was very nice and helpful with menu suggestions. Beer menu as usual is robust and interesting. Food was great. We ended up getting the goat cheese and mushroom quesadilla along with the chicken salad. Definitely will be back again.

I recently learned of this establishment as I saw an offer for $15 for $30 worth of casual dining. They are located in Highland Crossing.My hubby and I came earlier this week on Tuesday and they were closed (normally not) so we made another trip out today. I made reservations at the recommendation of a staff when I called to confirm their business hours. He said it's hard to predict if they would be busy or not. Upon arriving at 5:30, there were plenty of available tables even though the restaurant is small. We were told we could sit anywhere so we sat at one of the two communal high top tables. Bar and patio seating is also available.My hubby's order included an orange crush, Mangers Irish Cider, malted everything pretzel (app) and pierogi as his entree. I ordered the fish & chips since it got good reviews on yelp.Sadly we were not impressed with our food with the exception of the pierogi, which we both agreed was the best tasting out of everything we ordered. The pretzel was average although the added beer cheese (extra $1) was good. The menu said the fish & chips came with a side of spicy slaw and side of tartar. It came with neither. I didn't realize until coming home and looking at a photo of the menu that it came with slaw. I did ask for the tartar sauce. The fish was bland and needed seasoning or at least salt and pepper, which I asked for. I did like the batter which was crispy. I am not sure why other reviewers raved about the fish. Could it be a new cook?The rosemary parmesan fries had good flavor, but were too soggy. If they were cooked longer and came out crispy, they would have had potential.I'm assuming the kitchen was slow as it took awhile to bring out our order. Our server was friendly and came by one or twice to check on us and to clear our table.

The service was very good. The waitress, who seemed to be college age, was knowledgeable of the menu, honest, and helpful The ambiance was in general nice but there was a strong smell of Brussel sprouts lingering the entire evening as well as an abundance of flies. The waitress and food delivery gentleman both apologized. . We ordered the Brussel sprouts and they would have been better if they weren't oversaturated in buffalo sauce. There was so much sauce that we couldn't eat but a few of them, and we both love Brussel sprouts. We ordered the fish and chips with a side of onion rings. The fish was good and the Cole slaw was a bit different, yet tasty. The fries and onion rings were surprisingly okay being that the waitress told us ahead of time, were both frozen products. This was a first visit here for both of us and we agreed that neither of us felt there was nothing about this place that would entice us to return in the future.

Disappointed in this place. Staff was rude, service was slow, and they have no clue about food and wine.

We rarely venture this way but were in the Laurel area and Yelp provided this option. Yelp is never wrong. After we killed time by checking out the Brighton Dam, we came here. Let's just say if this was near our house, we would be there all the time. Clearly a local joint. Open inside and family friendly. Excellent beer list on tap and in cans. Great menu options! Love that they have lots of local beers on tap. And live music tonight. Bless his heart I'm old enough to be his mom but no breaks in an hour plus set of music that spanned the decades. Service was excellent. Our server was very friendly. So what did we eat? Started with the everything pretzel with the mustard and beer cheese. So good. Hot and fresh and not huge. Most of the time pretzels are huge but this was just enough. The kid got mozzarella sticks and devoured them. Hubby got the brined chicken sammich. I got a special. Apple, Brie and arugula croissant sandwich. Delicious. We barely, and I mean barely, saved room for the dessert. Locally made cheesecake. We got a slice of PB swirl. OMG. So good. Definitely worth the trek out here.

We had dinner with friends. It was a fun time. They had a guitar player who sang well. The burgers were delicious and a good size. My friend's enjoyed the meatball sandwich and the chicken quesadilla. We had excellent service from Jen.

i have been to Highland Local a few times. over all the food was good. the service on the other hand has always been less then spectacular. on one occasions we waited for an hour before our order was taken. the other times the server was non existent. The techno crap music from the kitchen over powered the music in the bar.This greatly detracted from our over all experience. we did say something to our server but they seemed not to care. we could not figure out why there was some drunk person controlling the music in the bar. We thought he was the owner till the server told us otherwise.

If you're just going there for a beer and appetizers, it's fine. The food isn't good - the cook can't cook a simple hamburger without burning it. We live in Highland and keep wanting to give this place another chance - but dispute it changing management several times since we've moved to the area, it persists in making us walk away unhappy.
