Whenever I want some delicious fried pork chops, I come here and they never disappoint! Lightly fried and well seasoned-- they give you 2 good sized chops. I typically get the mac n cheese and collard greens and have found consistently good flavor on both. That said-- this time I did try the barbecued chicken and my daughter had the beef short ribs. The barbecue sauce was good and the chicken was moist and tender. The portions are always a lot and I wish I'd gotten to eat the rest of my chicken, but my daughter finished it for me the next day. She said the short ribs were delicious. There aren't a lot of tables (more of a carryout than a dine-in type of place), yet we can always find a place to sit and eat (my food never makes it out of the door lol).A young man came in asking for food and when I offered to buy his meal, the owner stopped me and gave the man food for free. I wouldn't have mentioned it, except that the week before someone surprised my sister by buying her meal (she paid it forward, of course). Some good karma working in this place....

I'm sorry. I hate to leave negative reviews, but this just wasn't it for me. I grew up in N.C. where my Mom and Grandma would really take their time on Sunday dinners. I ordered the beef ribs (super tough and nearly inedible) with Mac and cheese (extra sharp cheddar would work better) and collard greens (tender but lacked seasoning), baked turkey wings (pretty decent) with potato salad (potatoes were hard) and yams (decent), and fried whiting (also pretty decent) with cabbage and corn (good). I also added two slices of the sweet potato pie and, again, I was not impressed. The service was good and the cashier was stellar, but the food did not do it for me. Maybe it's the region? I grew up further south so maybe that makes a difference.

I went here to grab lunch and noticed how bright the lighting is throughout the cafe. Although it's small, there was enough room to sit down and wait for my order. I ordered the beef liver and onions with a side of Mac and cheese and candied yams. Cornbread was also provided. The liver was very tough to chew on but well seasoned. The macaroni and cheese tasted slightly watery and the noodles were soggy. The candied yams were a bit too sweet for me. I also ordered a slice of sweet potato pie, and that was too sweet for me (not pictured). I've had better soul food and will go elsewhere.

This place has seen its glory days. This is the 2nd location to the one on U Street in DC. For decades my family and I appreciated the location on U Street for classic comfort food such as baked chicken, fried fish and sides such as sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, potato salad and stuffing. The Oxon Hill location was promising at one point but I don't know where things went wrong. Menu items suddenly became either too salty in taste, soaked in gravy, proteins fried exceptionally hard and deprived of tender-juiciness and/or bland sides. The freshness of the food is perhaps my biggest turnoff. Considering the quality, consistency, constant sell-outs and customer service the price is not commensurate. Back in 2021 when the owner pushed their "Drummer Boy" campaign, which was the owner given customers a free fried chicken leg wrapped in a slice of loaf white bread, I experienced the restaurant play stalling games in order to keep from having to hand out free chicken. I honestly wasn't so concerned about getting a free chicken leg as much as I wanted to take part in a "feed the community" campaign that I thought was meritorious on behalf of the owner. Generally lukewarm customer service, the aforementioned customer service experience and the obvious decline in food quality is just too much for me to overlook. The one shining star that I will still consider is their sweet potato pie although it too is an inconsistent recipe. For this to be such an iconic community restaurant at one point their inconsistency and decline unfortunately keeps me from recommending this business.

I enjoyed my visit to Henry's. I was pleased to see that they offered a dine in option. The menu was bountiful and offered everything from chicken wings to chitterlings. I had chicken wings, turkey wings, and catfish. I was tempted to get the ribs and pork chop, but my family had no more room to enjoy the delicious options we selected. The sides and desserts did not disappoint( Mac and cheese was not my cup of tea but my daughter enjoyed. The greens had quite a few stems and could have been picked better, but overall had good flavor. These two criticisms were not enough to keep me away. They even have the option to take a sweet potato pie kit home and bake two pies in the comfort of your own home. I am not in the area often, but when I am nearby again, I will list definitely stop by.

Pies are delicious, and the owners give free food to the community monthly. Had the pleasure of meeting owners and staff on Thanksgiving. They were beyond generous with the plates and pies. We will always come here first when we visit DC. This location is a walk-up eatery, so I wouldn't expect to dine in with my family for ambiance. Food is packed up well to go, and all utensils were included.
