Fattie's Bar & Grill

Was aiming for 4.5, but you can't do half stars. It's 5 stars for the kind of business that it is. Super-friendly, very welcoming, and great and affordable food. They even have good events like karaoke a lot! Used to come here all the time before I moved from the Baltimore County area. When I visited over Christmas, I got the Fatties Cheeseburger Steak Sub with corn on the cob and a sweet tea. I intentionally got the most expensive Fatties Sub because it wasn't that expensive; total of all that was about $17 (including the $3 drink that almost all bars charge that for).

We were greeted by Sharon when we first walked in, she was outgoing and very customer friendly. We felt welcome.Seating was fast and drinks were delivered with equal speed.Now onto the food...I ordered the chicken fingers and they were offered 2 ways, either crispy or regular, all from scratch, nothing pre-packaged. I ordered the crispy Panko breading, they were good, moist and tender, a generous portion. I asked for ranch dressing.My husband ordered the shrimp salad sandwich, it was fresh and seasoned just right for him. Again, a generous serving. It came with a pickle and a bag of chips. The homemade macaroni salad was perfect, complements.Later Sharon's husband (Mike-aka Chalupa) came up and introduced himself, what a character! He is a perfect complement to her and this place.We'll be back.

TLDR: Pretty good - 3.5 to 4 stars (what's up Yelp, why can't we have halvsies??)Full review: Started off with garlic BBQ wings, they were "okay" - the wings themselves were meaty and tender, the sauce was so-so. Moving on to the main dishes, I had the cheesesteak with provolone and my companion had the crab cake platter with macaroni salad. The cheesesteak was very tasty, surprisingly so. My companion said the macaroni salad was excellent by all metrics. The surprise of the night was the funnel fries - highly recommend them, they come with your choice of dipping sauce (chocolate, blueberry or cherry). The real standout? The service and ownership. Our server and barkeep was Angel. Angel was super friendly, outgoing, and very attentive (a major plus in my book). The owner, "Chalupa", came over to check on our dining experience at the close of our evening - again very friendly, funny and energetic. While our first time eating there, he made us feel welcomed. If you're in the Essex/Middle River area, stop in Fatties and have a good tavern meal.

I wanted to go to a dive bar after watching movies at the drive in and Fatties filled the bill perfectly! It isn't far from Bengie's drive in.When I walked in, I knew this place was a neighborhood special. The type of place where everyone knows everyone. That said, we were strangers. The bartender was super friendly and got us set up right away. She had good recommendations for what to eat from the menu. I think I had a chicken parm sub and fries. The sub was fine. The fries were better. The drinks were excellent if basic. My guest wanted a martini and they don't make them (obviously!!!) lolThe crowd was fun. I was like hanging out with some old friends. If in the area and looking for a local dive bar, give them a shot.

My boyfriend shoots on their pool league. We are there almost every week. The food is awesome and the prices are great. Their shrimp special on Wednesdays, wings and burgers are a must have. I have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered. Angel, one of the barmaids is the Best! I highly recommend this place.Darlene

Chalupa and his wife run a beautiful and fun environment for people of all ages to have a good time. Whether it's with how good the food is or how amazing the service actually is and how homey and happy of an environment it truly is. Definitely the funniest bartender I've had in a long time and I'd recommend this place a million times over. 10/10.

Hesitant to go since it was my first time and I was alone. At the beginning it was fine, not awkward. 1st bartender was cool. Then there was a bartender change. The lady I met there said she did not like him. I paid it no mind, until I got to experience him for myself. His name starts with a "C"! He seemed like a jokester with other patrons, but with me it seemed like it was somehow personal. Maybe it's because I wasn't in a mini skirt or showing cleavage, who knows LOL. Every time I asked for a drink, he acted like I was asking for something out of this world. Who doesn't know that honey whiskey exists? Making faces too, like I don't know what I'm asking for. Bought the $6 drink and still tiped him more than 22%. Regret it though. One drink by him and I'm out. Never return again. I was already feeling a certain kind of way since I was going to a bar by myself, and I had to encounter that unnecessary interaction? Absolutely absurd.

This bar has good food and a real local experience. Their wings are good. Owners is not afraid to pull up her sleeves and work Sharon is always friendly. Prices are decent. Nice beer selection. A good place to eat and have a beer, I've never disliked aeal at Fatties.

We have been going to Fatties for a couple of years. There food is great. We have not found a better crabcake in the area. The owners are great people. We are glad Fatties is open again from the COVID closure.
