Dear Charles, The conveniently located restaurant is on the lower level of The Study at John Hopkins. Check out Dear Charles for breakfast, Brunch, lunch, dinner, or a late-night bite; you won't be disappointed.Dear Charles, for us, the threat was for a quick light bite when we checked in before our 6:30 p.m. concert at the BMA and brunch after we checked out the next day. Kai, our server on both occasions, was friendly and remembered us. Dear Charles, It is a quaint and affordable venue.

We popped in to try Dear Charles for a late brunch on a Saturday. The inside of the restaurant has all of the charm that I love about Baltimore neighborhood restaurants.Based on pictures on Yelp, I ordered the brioche French toast and was not disappointed. It's served with pastry cream & fresh berries, and I thought it had just the right amount of sweetness so you can add maple syrup without it being cloyingly sweet. My partner ordered the Charles Burger, which is served with bacon jam, gruyère cheese, lettuce, pickles and the most pillowy soft bread. The beef definitely could have used a touch of salt and be made to fit the size of the bread better. Otherwise it's a pretty good burger.

2 stars for the amazing customer service I received from the server who was assigned our table...for the short time I was sitting at a table with a group. Let me explain further...On Thursday, 1/9, I visited Dear Charles to have dinner with a Meetup group. I was able to identify within the first 30-45 mins I would not be able to have dinner with the group as they had a ton of antisocial tendencies that turned me off immediately. But, as I said, the waitress was great. Very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu and specials.I'd ordered a coffee at the table, but hadn't ordered anything else. Things went downhill after I told the server I planned to move to the bar. I figured my coffee could easily be moved there, but when I got to the bar and explained the situation to the bartender, it...was odd. The bartender disappeared off to speak to the server, then was gone a while. When she returned, she asked if the server had taken my order...uh, no. Why would a server take my order at the bar???Anyway, the bartender handed me a menu and I attempted to order the steak, but Dear Charles was out of the one thing I wanted, the one thing that could have redeemed the night.AND despite this establishment not having a major menu item I really wanted, the bartender still charged me $4 for coffee. That chapped me so much, I won't be going back. I mean, comp the coffee, jeez.

If you are looking for nice, chill neighborhood restaurant that is quaint and charming, then Dear Charles is your placed. Housed in the Charles Village neighborhood by Hopkins University, Dear Charles evokes a sense of history and belonging and serves as a fixture where the community can come together to share conversations, celebrate with friends, or relax alone. It is also influenced by the regional bounty of the Mid-Atlantic and the vibrance of an established village tavern, patrons will find elevated yet familiar menu items, complemented by a beverage program that focuses on cleverly reimagined classics.I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday with a work colleague, this particular day it was pretty quiet, so we were quickly seated upon arrival. The menu looked pretty inviting so we pretty much tried a plethora of dishes. For starters, we did the soup of the day which was a very delicious butternut squash with pesto. That soup was pretty much heaven in a bowl on a cold day. We also tried the crispy brussels sprouts and mussels. Both dishes were very flavorful, I loved that the mussels came with fries. Their fries are very good. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For lunch I did the, Charles burger with the smoked bacon jam, hmm hmmm hmmm. So good. My friend got the T&M sandwich, their spin on a classic tomato and mozzarella sandwich. She said it was pretty good. They have a really good cocktail list to even include non alcoholic drinks for the folks that are not drinking alcohol. I tried the coconut sour which was really good, would totally get it again. I absolutely loved Dear Charles, and feel they are such a wonderful addition to the Charles Village area. It is really nice for a date night, meeting up with a group of friends for drinks and the décor is nice, sleek and modern. Will definitely return for brunch or just to try other entrees'SYOY

What was supposed to be a quick drink at the bar turned into a delightful evening of food & drink at Dear Charles! The space is very tasteful, balancing an elegant and modern look while still feeling cozy and inviting. The staff are very friendly and attentive --Stefan was our bartender and did a great job taking care of us throughout the night. We ordered the fried calamari, French fries, tuna tartare and oysters for bites. The fried calamari was absolutely delicious and the star of the night. Super fresh, hot and crispy, and the fried peppers were a nice touch. The fries came right off the fryer and were delicious, perfectly salted. The oysters were huge (almost too much so) and had a nice array of toppings to add to your own taste. The tuna tartare was probably my least favorite of the night. The tuna itself was excellent, very fresh, but the dish seemed to be missing something and just fell flat to me. Our drinks included the Blue Jay, the Village Tavern martini, and a gin & tonic from the menu. The cocktails were so tasty! The gin and tonic was boozy and sweet, in the best way. Blue Jay was like a Moscow mule with a hint of sweetness, not overwhelming. The martini was perfection! I'm not usually a martini girl but this drink converted me. Chilled glass, not too sweet, touch of citrus, and boozy but easy to drink. That is danger in a glass, and I will take two more please!!The cherry on top is that the bathrooms here are incredibly clean and private. Really makes the whole experience feel luxe. There is street parking along North Charles or St Paul, so it's easy to stop in! Highly recommend Dear Charles for a great happy hour or dinner with family and friends. I look forward to stopping in again to try more, maybe the breakfast menu next time!

To host colleagues across the East Coast, we selected this spot the evening before our big conference. We were given the best server: Fatima. She provided prompt friendly and very attentive service. Our table settings were beautiful, the appetizers and wine were top notch, and the limited menu entrees we were given were delicious. Even with the one server coming over and turning off our lights, we had a great time. Definitely looking forward to hosting here again and hope our server is as incredible as this year's.

What a great little hideout in a lovely city hotel! The ambiance was warm and inviting, the server was friendly, funny, and attentive. There were some very unique menu and drink items and what we each ordered was colorful, well presented, and very fresh. The music was a great mix of cool jazz and mellow mixes! Oh-we'll be back!!

The appetizers were AMAZING. Brussel sprouts roasted with a balsamic glaze, 10/10. Calamari was crispy, the jalapeños very spicy (I'm told by others I dined with; I'm not one for jalapeños). We ended up getting a second order of the cheeseboard it was so good: fig preserves, blue cheese, sharp cheddar, honeycomb, almonds, and crisp French bread. I gave 4 stars only because my turkey sandwich was kind of dry and the fries were a little bland. I will ABSOLUTELY be back, and I highly recommend this place! We had great service. Tall ceilings and a narrow dining room gives it a sense of both openness and intimacy. The peach cobbler was a table favorite. The mousse was delicious!

This is the loudest restaurant I've ever been to. There was a large crowd at the bar and the noise in the restaurant was terrible and very uncomfortable. There was no way to enjoy the meal.
