If you're looking for great sushi, look no further! Whether you're getting take out to eat on your boat on a hot summer evening or you just had to have sushi after being preggo for what felt like a lifetime, Umai is a solid choice in the heart of south county. In a modest building, the star of this place are the fresh, masterfully prepared ingredients. Their samurai and caterpillar A rolls are some of our favorites and a nice addition to the more traditional rolls in their menu. While we mostly do takeout, you'll leave this casual dining experience with a full belly and a smile on your face. The service is quite fast given the volume of food they push out and the staff is always so positive and happy to see you.

Cute little place. Ordered takeout sushi including vegetarian sushi for myself and crunch tuna rolls for my husband. The staff was very kind and helpful at suggesting what to order. Our takeout order was prepared within 15min. My sushi was good. My husband also enjoyed his sushi and said it was good as well. Definitely fulfilled the sushi craving.

I am shocked to find such a great sushi restaurant in such a small remote town, but I am not complaining, because it's 5 minutes from my house, so we can indulge frequently! The owner remembers us, is welcoming, and friendly. The sushi is fresh and delicious. What more could you want?

I'll start with the good. All of the flowers and plants were beautiful, both outside and inside the establishment. And a few of the sushi rolls were good. The tempura appetizer we ordered was cooked perfectly but the textures of the potatoes they used were not so good and the sauce that came with it was flavorless. The tuna and salmon that were in the sushi were fresh. Here is the not so good....We asked for whatever roe came on the sushi, to be on the side. We were told that was not possible and that we would have to order a side of it for $8....huh!?!? I'm not making this up lol. The miso soup was the worst I've ever had. The spider roll that we ordered had imitation crab. If your going to go through all the trouble of deep frying soft shell crab then put a little real crab in there. The fake crab ruined the entire roll. The nigiri tuna sushi we ordered was on so little rice that it couldn't be picked up with chopsticks. The rice didn't even stick together. It was a mess. We were served drinks in solo cups. The server and owner were friendly but also short on conversation and were far from being busy. This was just not a great experience.

Great customer service and the sushi was fabulous! Love the outdoor seating when the weather permits!

This location is sort of oddly situated between an antique and consignment store with a dental place right next to it. People were visiting the two stores and ignoring the restaurant but I was hungry so stopped in for a snack. As there weren't other options around I didn't check out Yelp so didn't know what to expect. I walked in and the lady (owner)? was a bit brusque. Took her a few to get to me. I started to order and she got a pencil from elsewhere, shoved it at me, and walked away. I would have walked out at that point but I was hungry so I stayed. And I'm glad I did. The sushi was excellent. So was the miso soup and even the green tea. If she was more pleasant it would have been a 5 star experience but as such it deserves a 4.

Excellent food excellent sushi. Good service. We like the crazy roll a lot. It has become a family favorite.

The sushi is to great so hard to believe for what looks like such a small town i would definitely recommend

The owners are nice and down to earth. Small town experience and nice ambiance. Food is good too!

Delicious sushi and great lunch specials. A hidden gym in the Edgewater area. Service is always good.
