Excellent jazz! Good food! Great staff! Pretty venue inside. Very low key exterior.Wow! Excellent creative, skilled, fun musicians played their lively high-energy jazz interpretations of Stevie Wonder hits during a tribute show for his birthday to a full room. On this Friday, the line started forming before 7pm, and doors for seating opened around 7:30 for the 8pm show. Once inside, there is self-seating, and specific tables can be reserved. It's a big room for around 100. The photos don't do it justice. It's cozy and bright and fresh, with banquet-type chairs and tables, and a full bar that seats around 6 in comfortable padded high-back chairs. We had immediate service from both the bar and kitchen, and were served quickly by friendly staff. The room was full, so maybe some others had longer waits for service. We had prosecco and Jack&ginger, both fine. Food arrived quickly, too, and it was perfect! You might not expect it from a menu that is mostly fried, but wow again, the broiled salmon was perfectly creamy, tender, fresh and flavorful, and the fried fish was generous and very fresh, maybe the best i've ever had! More than one person praised the wings, too! The managers visited our table a few times to be sure we were happy, and we were :-). Everyone we met was nice to talk to, and the whole crowd had a real good time. Several couples got up on the dance floor, too. Outside, there is a large parking area with watchful staff. Half of the building is a package store, so when you approach it, look to the left for the door with a buzzer to press for entry into a long plain hallway with a few chairs for people who arrive early. Some of you will be put off by the low-key exterior, but the reward is amazing music and musicians, great food, nice people, and a real good time!

Last jazz club left standing in Bmore. If you pick the performances carefully some great artists can be heard here. Average soul food at best due to rather bland seasoning. Caters to an older crowd. Have been several times and service is extremely slow if you do not fit the demographic. 4 Stars if you pick the right performance. 3 Stars otherwise.

Just visited Caton Castle to see the 'Moon August" reunion performance. ("Moon August" are perhaps the most underrated Jazz/Easy Listening/Fusion band in the country together some forty five years and still the best in the biz if you're into Jazz.) Caton Castle is one of the nicest jazz clubs in the tri-state area. It was our first visit, we paid in advance for our tickets and they called us to confirm. The place is very easy to find and we are not familiar with the outskirts of Baltimore. They even provide a parking attendant which is a definite plus as it's crowded. Caton Castle offers live Jazz from 6-10 p.m. each Saturday and is Baltimore's answer to the old DC One Step Down and Blues Alley. The customers are there for the music so there's little background noise - they're purists! The wait staff are a delight, warm, friendly and damned efficient. the food the regions finest down home cooking. (The fried oysters were out of this world)This place is what "real" Baltimore is all about. Dress code is not enforced but I didn't see "do rags", baggy jeans or tees....just a diverse crowd of well-dressed professionals and their Moms and Dad's having a ball groovin'....aged between thirties to octogenarian and all clearly loving the best sounds for miles. Will definitely return for a second visit and I'll be putting this on my great live entertainment listing. Get there early as it fills up quickly. We arrived at 6.45 p.m. and there were perhaps two tables left out of a possible thirty.

I called to inquire about their live music schedule, but the lady on the phone began yelling and then disconnected the call. When I called back, she admitted to hanging up on me intentionally and continued to yell, informing me that there would be no live music until July 13. Due to this experience, I will not be visiting this establishment on July 13 or any other date. I strongly advise anyone considering this place to stay away, as the hostility I encountered over the phone suggests even worse in-person interactions.
