Captain Joe's Crab House

We ordered some large blue crabs and they were huge and delicious. The folks there are very friendly. If you are in Essex or want a qui k detour off of 95, this is the place to get them. But, call ahead at least 24 hours to reserve them!

I love Captain Joe's! I have been coming here for the past 10 years. My crabs are always fresh... I have never had a bad batch. The staff are always friendly and polite! If you are looking for crabs and your in the Essex area you should give them a try!

I just had a taste for crabs last night and decided to go pick up a few. They were absolutely delicious...but then again, they always are! I've been going to Capt. Joe's for YEARS, they're my "go to" place when I want some, and I have never been disappointed! The crabs are always heavy, perfectly seasoned, reasonably priced and everyone there is always so pleasant and welcoming. Check it out..you won't be disappointed.

No frills take out crabs. But they know what the heck they're doing. Been around since I was a kid, and it's the only place I go in Baltimore. The seasoning is salty and perfect in my opinion. Always get crabs full of meat, no paper shells here.

Being from MD originally, I am a blue crab snob. When I come to Baltimore, this is where I get my crabs because the spices (in the family for 50+ years) and the quality and weight of the crabs are always fantastic. I've even had hot crabs flown across the country from Joe's on a commercial jet...opened the packed boxes...and some steam puffed out! This place is the real deal. Blows places like Phillips away. Period.

Got a doz small and a doz large for Father's Day. Heavy and good. Good price. Will be back

My wife and I discovered Captain Joe's last summer, ordered crabs a few times and loved them. However, I ordered 1 dozen extra large yesterday (Mother's Day, 5/10/20) and this experience was quite different. I know it is early season and it's tough to find big crabs, but when you pay $105 for 12 crabs, you expect them to at least be full. I can honestly tell you that there were maybe only 4 crabs at most that were passable. The rest were paper shells, with very little meat. The biggest crab in the bunch had almost nothing inside, and had no weight to it. I called Captain Joe and he said there was nothing he could do for me, even though I reminded him about his sign at the counter that states that they will give store credit for anything that wasn't good. Captain Joe told me that he was paying $700 for a bushel at this time, which can't be true since he would be losing money even at the $105.00 price. I was talking to one of the employees when I picked up the crabs (she was very nice), and she had told me the crabs were around $250 a bushel, which I would believe, for the time of year. There are only a few places that I get my crabs and captain Joes are number one on my list. They will always give you more crabs than you ask for and the seasoning is out of this world! I've since moved to Pennsylvania and I will still to this day travel to captain Joes when I'm in the mood for crabs.
