Capt. Jim’s Crabs & Seafood Market

I don't know if I should put this review here or if I should start a whole new page because I visited the Dundalk location, on German Hill Road (Al's was there last summer). I suspect Captain Jim runs his ships all the same, no matter where they are located, so I'll put it here - but if the Captain is still in the same spot next year, I'll start the new Yelp page then.My grandfather lived in Dundalk all his life, and he was a tremendously important person in my life. He passed some time ago and is buried at... one of those cemeteries on German Hill, right across the street from Captain Jim's. I like to visit him on his birthday, and Christmas if I have the chance. This year would have been his 99th birthday. I put a box of Butterfinger candies on his headstone because they were his favorite, and decided that I would get some steamed crabs in his honor because they were also one of his favorite things (and I had the money). We were originally going to get the crabs somewhere else, but figured, 'hey, Captain Jim's is right here. Why not give them a try?'We weren't disappointed. It took about 20 minutes for them to freshly steam 3 dozen small males, and a pound of shrimp for us. It wasn't much more than $50 (which is what I had on hand from my grandmother, who has been without my grandfather for at least 15 years now). The scent of the (I'm guessing) J.O2 seasoning filled our van, and the steam from the crabs actually fogged our windows.I spent about 8 hours picking crabs. I find the activity so calming, and could do it all the time if my arthritic elbows and shoulders didn't throw an absolute fit the next day. The crabs were delicious and made me happy, and isn't that the point? We got two different butters to dip the crab in, but that's not really my thing. My boyfriend said that the plain butter tasted woody, and he didn't like that, but the garlic butter was a hit and he has used the leftover butter to make at least one dinner so far. The shrimp were lovely, and came with cocktail sauce, and steamed onions because what's the point of steamed shrimp if not to get some onions as well?I think we did right by my grandfather. Would recommend

Giving 2 starts for the taste and size of the crabs. Had been going there for years until I had a horrible experience! The customer service is awful, if you have an issue with your order the younger woman that works there will argue with you instead of trying to help resolve your issue. I was sold crabs that had clearly been recooked. They were as mushy as wet paper! No way we could eat them in this condition! At these prices I want my crabs to be as close to perfect as possible! I had a minor issue prior to my run-in with the woman who works there past but I spoke with Jim and he was more than happy to replace the crabs that we were not happy with. I won't buy crabs here again unless I know Jim is there.

Got a dozen of "Medium" males for $48 yesterday. The taste of them were good, however I do not know what criteria they go by to make them "Mediums" The sizes were more more like half "Smalls"Half "Regular Mediums" Felt ripped off for the steep $48 price TBH.

My family had never gotten food from here before but on a whim decided since it was on our way home to give it a go. Went mostly for the cream of crab, but also purchased fried shrimp and shrimp salad. The fried shrimp and shrimp salad was good. However the cream of crab was awful. There was no crab meat to be seen and the sherry or wine in the base, overpowered any other flavor. And I mean NO crabmeat in the soup.

Crab specials are a regular and always tasty, I'd give it a try if you luv seafood, everything is delicious and staff super nice, stop on in !!

Im only giving three stars because the taste and seasoning of the crabs were ok!I paid for LG males $90 and received medium and smalls. If I could attach a picture I would.

Brought crabs from here two weeks straight and was very pleased with them. Definitely returning back

Couldn't be more pleased! The ladies working there were the friendliest ladies ever! They were so helpful and answered all my questions, and I'm really glad that I chose to go there. I got some steam shrimp to serve on Thanksgiving, and they instructed me on how to heat them up so they wouldn't overcook and my family loved them!

Decided to try out the crabs since it is fairly close to our house and heard good things. We ordered a dozen medium males and they were very tasty and MOST were a good size. But there were a few that looked very very small. And we were shorted a crab, which left us with only 11. The meat in them were a bit squishy, but other than that, they were pretty good. They also had a special where if you bought a dozen crabs, you get a pound of shrimp and 2 ears of corn free which we thought was awesome. Except the shrimp were also mushy and very hard to peel. Not the best crabs I've had, but also not the worst.
