Callejero's Tacos Campirana Mexican Food

By Shell gas station at the corner of 175 & Rt 1, unassuming but seems popular. I heard it used to be a food truck but now a small restaurant slash bakery. My husband was craving authentic Mexican tacos so stopped by while in the neighborhood. Ordered the 3 steak tacos, taco salad, quesadillas, combo fajita. Got some bakery items as well just to sample while waiting for the food to be ready. Everyone speaks Spanish with little English. Ordered pointing at pictures on the menu. Loved that! Made me feel it was legit. The tacos and fajita were okay. Quesadillas weren't good. The taco salad, however, was like steak Chipotle bowl. Disappointing. It was a huge portion though with a lot of rice. The baked goods were very dry like they've been out for a few days? Maybe I had expected more of a fried flavor? Don't know. Would I return? Most likely not.

My breakfast burrito was pretty messy. I ordered a breakfast burrito & the menu said you can choose your meat when you order, I wasn't given that option and I didn't ask bc there was a bit of a language barrier, plus I'm not super picky but you lost me at cubed ham ma'am..

It had been years since I've eaten here and came back after my cuz sent me a video of someone's experience. I waited to until Tuesday to grab their 4 tacos for $7.99 deal. I decided to try the carne asada and to be bad and try one carnita taco. Ordering was easy but next time I'll call ahead. I decided to get two orders, one for lunch and ones to take home for later. I was surprised to see the carnita was cubes of hard dry pork and not juicy shreds like I remember falling in love with years ago. . . although it was at a different restaurant. The carne asada was just carne, no grill marks and it was chewy. . . I'll go back to try something else but I'm good on the tacos for now.

Great food made fast for a budget.Callejero's delivers simple, quickly made, and absolutely delicious Mexican food. Each dish is made with tons of seasonings.I am far an expert for authentic Mexican cuisine, but from what I do know, Callejero is all about the authenticity. No American cheeses, no Texan sauces, no California inspired Shrimp dishes, no taco salads. Expect simple, but high quality ingredients prepared in a way that showcases the natural savory meats and cheeses. Callejero also offers their own unique dish, the Machete, named after Danny Trejo's cult classic character. The Machete is like an extra thin and crispy quesadilla. I highly recommend it! And whether you're ordering the Machette or their more traditional dishes, expect nicely sized portions.The food is prepared quickly, but expect delays due to long lines. Space is tight in Callejero and during the lunch rush, expect to feel claustrophobic. The cooks and cashiers in Callejero work fast, so don't feel like you're being disregarded if you're trying to converse with the staff and feel ignored. It's best to place your order and then pickup your food when it's ready. It's also important to note that many of the staff have English as their second language. But regardless of these small nitpicks, the food is well worth it.Callejero is my go to for tasty authentic Mexican Food for lunch and dinner!

Everyone and everything about this place is amazing! Food service The Al pastor tacos are bomb! And their horchata is so satisfying

Order the Birria tacos and I could've kept my coins. They don't stand a chance against Pollo Fiesta in Jessup. The shell was flimsy no cheese no flavor unless you dipped it in the sauce which was ok.

If your looking for a sit down restaurant with lots of space, keep on scrolling. This place has two counters and the kitchen is attached to a gas station BUT what delish food! Great prices and my husband could only finish his half monstrous sandwich.

I picked out a place from the area I was in for tacos. They are open and they recommend you call in your order to make it less contact and so you don't have to wait. I ordered 4 beef tacos and plantains. The person taking orders was really friendly and doesn't speak a great deal of English. No matter, very personable. I ordered and the cost was almost 2x what I expected. She said was hard to get ground beef so they are steak. I decided that was worth a try. Waited about 10 min in the car and tacos were ready on time. Get the steak tacos !! They were so good!! Tender and came with cilantro, radishes, cucumbers & lime on the side. Sauces : a seriously thick cream (like Guatemalan creme), a red spicy, and tomatillo green sauce. I don't think the green sauce was for me.If you like plantains, these were perfectly fried and cooked perfectly, sweet and a little crispy.So glad I found this on Yelp!! Thanks for the reviews to get me to stop and a great job from this restaurant for the great tacos !

IF I COULD GIVE IT 10 STARS, I WOULD! Lady at the counter was nice , AND the place seem VERY CLEAN (a plus to me ). The menu was visible and gave us a paper copy to keep. I ordered 4 steak tacos and my husband got a chicken quesadilla. Food only took about 8-10 minutes to make and come out . I checked the food before we left , and it looked AMAZING. I didn't take pictures but I did recored for tiktok so spread the word . 10/10 amazing flavor and had everything I wanted. I haven't had real Mexican tacos like this in a while . And it was all under 30$! I will be coming back and bring others !! GREAT JOB
