"Great service. The best fried fish from trout to catfish. I love their strawberry cake and pickled eggs. Plenty of parking in a shopping center close to the gym."
"Hidden Gem! Totally the best service and food along 301S. I've been coming here for years and although a wait, NEVER a disappointment. From breakfast to lunch I have never had a "bad" meal. The cost point is also nostalgic, pocket friendly. If you're ever looking for a guaranteed great meal and service - STOP BY!"

"It was what was available at the time. My taste for carry out food is changing. Either that, or this was sub par, no pun intended. I had a cheese fish sub. It was just okay. The fries were mediocre as well. The corner Carryout on York road has some of the best fried chicken to my liking, so I figured I would be in good hands with trying anything else from an affiliate of their resturant. I would go back, but I will stick to the chicken and western fries."
"Really good chicken, Good coleslaw, good greens and phenomenal catfish. Great service Nice people, clean and easy. Takes a few minutes to get your food because they cook it fresh for you and it is worth it. The only reason I won't be back is because I don't live near here, I'm a little jealous of folks that do!"
"Service: Service was good. We were greeted when we arrived. They were patient with us and explained portion sizes and meals as we were first time patrans. Food: The Food seemed to be prepared well. I ordered the 2 Whole WIng meal with 2 sides; Mac & Cheeses and Greens. Wife ordered Catfish and mY son order ribs. The fish is made to ordered which is great and is severed fresh that way. The chickens was crispy and on display. I will say they are heavy handed on the salt. We tasted heavy salt in the Greens and on the fish it was a bit overpowering. Ambiance: fairly new space. Looks well kept. Plenty of seating and windows. there is seating for gourps of 4 but they allowed us to pull 2 tables together because we had a party of 6. I would definitely recommend this place because the food was good. Im hoping the salt thing was not a typical experience."
"this spot saved my life today. I am a real estate agent and had been working all day without eating. I only had a small window of time to grab some food and stopped at CK. The fried whiting was fried lightly and not too greasy, the potato salad perfect, greens, string beans, mac and cheese , shrimp quesadillas - all delicious. Deanwood needs them here. They took me back to when i was a child growing up in NW DC i use to eat with my neighbors at a place called Goins on Georgia and Shepherd. I miss that place cause they are no longer there and Catherine's Kitchen gave me yummy reminders. I will be back."
"I am very disappointed in my purchase this time. I haven't been here in over a year or longer. This place has changed. They are understaffed. On this particular day. They only had one female working by herself and doing it all. I ordered the whiting fish. Which was alright but my spinach was very salty. I'm pretty sure it was canned smh. They were out of curry goat. I also ordered a side order of cucumber salad. It was drowning in ranch dressing to the point that I didn't even want to eat it.They closed off a portion of the carryout and put up a big wall. The online pictures show tables and booths which made me consider coming back because I actually thought they had upgraded but boy was I wrong. It was hot with no air conditioning. I definitely won't be back. I hope the manager pay attention to his employees and give them the support they need. That way they can pay better attention to the presentation and preparation of the food. He doesn't seem to care much about his staff. Which is a shame because she was very nice. Good employees are hard to find."
"Plenty of food in your order but flavorless and unseasoned vegetables were over cooked and soggy I like a little snap in mine the wings were large and juicy and not dried out under the skin but again unseasoned and tasteless if your hungry this is the place to go but if you are looking for good taste this is not the place"
"Omg this food was absolutely delicious! The best yams you can get from a restaurant! I highly recommend the yams"
"Treated myself to a "cheat meal" for lunch so I decided to give this newly opened location a try. Because it was lunch time, I did take out instead of dining in.Upon entering, I noticed that the restaurant's decor was well put together and very appealing -- it was so colorful and inviting with flowers, elegant chairs, and cultured portraits. Definitely much better decorated than other Carolina Kitchens I've gone to. Thankfully, there wasn't a line for takeout so I was able to just walk in and place my order. The overall spread looked good. I got the fried whiting, collard greens, and black eye peas. My food was flavorful and thoroughly cooked . I also got a buttered cornbread muffin and it was good also! The taste of the food was similar to the taste to the food at other locations that I've tried, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but most times the food tastes different pending the location. I guess the franchise deserves a "A" for consistency.Overall, my experience was okay -- not bad but also nothing to rant and rave about."
"Service here was absolutely amazing. The staff were very friendly. James was the cashier and displayed such amazing hospitality to me. The process to order was smooth and the wait was not long. The pork ribs and yams were delicious! I probably wouldn't try the Mac n cheese again. I would be back to try more next time."
"It took me almost an hour and a half finding this little tiny place that was eventually found in the Northeast Market. From my house to this place, it was truly a mission.I drove around, trying to find parking and when I did, it took me forever finding this place. I first went inside the market and looked everywhere, all those signs and looking at the food options in the hot bars and I just couldn't find it... So I stepped outside and asked a few people and they didn't know, so I started walking around the whole area and found myself in an area with at least 3 groups of people that reeked of weed. I finally went back inside the Market after 20 minutes of walking in circles and decided to get a smoothie before trying again. When I ordered a Blueberry smoothie, less sweet for 4 bucks, I decided to ask the people that were making my smoothie if they knew where OK Oriental Food was. They told me it was behind them.... wut.....WHAT?! This whole time I was walking around for half an hour and it was right in front of me?!I went there after getting my smoothie and I can see why I never found them until now, their sign is kinda hidden and hard to see unless you look at it through a certain angle. This food better be worth it...I went to the place and saw a hot bar. More than half of the foods were almost empty. Sad face. :( I told the angry looking Korean woman that this was my first time getting her food and what she would recommend. She told me I could get a starch, 1 meat and 2 veggies as a meal. Fried rice or white rice, Chicken or beef bulgogi and 2 other meats which were almost gone, or different types of kimchi.I got white rice, chicken bulgogi, kimchi and baechu kimchi. It was like 8 bucks and PACKED. It had 1 of my favorite kimchi too. The kind with pickled carrots, spicy paste, and cabbage. The food was delicious. It was raining hard outside and I wore shorts and a t-shirt. The food was hot and made me feel warm. The chicken bulgogi was tender, moist, salty, and flavorful. A great combination with the cool and savory kimchi which went even nicer with the sweet baechu kimchi and to have it washed down by the white rice and blueberry smoothie. It's the only place in the Market that sells Korean food. Definitely a must if you're around the area. And lets say you don't like it? There are like 10 other places to eat inside the same building!"

Taste of the Island Soulfood in Severn, MD can be a hit or miss dining experience. Located in a seedy section, it's important to be mindful of the surroundings. While there may be times when you call and find they're out of certain items, when they do have their Caribbean dishes like jerk chicken, curry chicken, and brown stew chicken are top-notch. Their American-style offerings such as Mac & cheese, chicken wings, and cheesesteaks are consistently well-seasoned. They also occasionally serve breakfast. On a good day, you can enjoy some really delicious food, and the ownership is known to be friendly and respectful.

3.5, rounded to 4 for staying open longer than other establishments that occupied this space and friendly staff! This is black American soul food, in my opinion, but in the category of southern Baptist, after church cooking-- not the gentrified DC soul food, nor soul food from the chef that graduated high school in 2003. No shade at all to those that fit in those categories, but I'm trying to give you an accurate description of this food. It's old school, nice portions, maybe a sister Dorothy is in charge of the Mac n cheese... idk, but before people got too fancy, doing brunch after church, or church online, churches used to have food after church or for special events (every other week). (Lucky you if you go to a church that still does this!). It looked and tasted like this. Daddy Grace's anyone? I've had their turkey wings and chicken with sides. I can't eat fish, but my family members that got the fish, love it. We picked this as an establishment to patronize for Kwanzaa. While it's not always my go to, it's there and provides comfort. A good hearty warm meal when you need one. I'm so glad to have this option, let alone at 'the mall' where there could easily be a food court of everything, but things resembling home- cooked food.

"Had a great time eating brunch at Miss Toyas. It was a slow day when I visited but do recommend making a reservation as it did start getting busy towards the end. Our server was very attentive and gave us suggestions when we were deciding between options. For the appetizers, we had the salmon bites which were not that great. They were fried a little too hard and became dry. The main courses were the lamb chops and fried chicken with eggs and potatoes with a side of pancakes. The food was good but a little on the dry side. I really liked the pancakes, they were a generous portion and had the perfect sweetness."
"Reviews for this place pop up on my Instagram timeline all the time. I finally decided to give them a try and babyyyyyyyy they did not disappoint.I stopped in on a Wednesday around 6:30. There were no other customers there but in the short time I waited for my food, about 3 or 4 customers came in to order. I planned to order my food to go but although empty, I could feel the vibes so I dined inside. I went with the stuffed salmon, collard greens and Mac and cheese were my sides. I also ordered a side of sweet potatoes because I could smell cinnamon/soul food the minute I walked through the door. My first bite was the collard greens, so was my second, third and forth. I couldn't stop! Then I tried the stuffed salmon, perfection!!! I almost ordered it without the old bay aioli because I was nervous about it making the salmon too salty. I'm glad I ordered as is. It is BOMB!! It's stuffed, really stuffed, possibly with a whole nice size crab cake on top, in addition to the crab meat inside the fish. Next bite was the Mac and cheese. Gosh it was so flavorful. I'd like it a little cheesier but I'm still ordering again on my next visit. Lastly was the sweet potatoes. Divine!!! So good! They were more like mashed sweet potatoes which I love! And listen .... If they add sweet potato pie to the menu and use the same recipe as they do for the sides .... My lord!! Take my money! Heading back to try the stuffed lamb chops, potato salad and the brunch menu. I glanced quickly and the first thing I saw was "The Notorious T-Bone", t- bone steak, cheese eggs and welch's grape. Stop playing with meeeee Highly recommend!! Already told friends!"

"This truck is outside my job every Tuesday. I always saw my coworkers getting food and I never went but today I decided to stop. I got a crab cake with Mac and cheese and the buffet and with that I got gumbo, greens and Mac and cheese. The food was delicious to me. The greens are cooked with turkey and seasoned just right. The customer service is amazing. They give out samples and have wonderful smiles. I will be back next week to try the jerk chicken and red deans and rice."
"I had a cheesesteak from here and it was amazing! Someone gave it to me so I didn't actually visit the actual company. The bacon was perfect and thick! The cheese was on point, can't even explain it! Meat to bread ratio was adequate"
"I've been here so many times, and every time I am reminded of why I keep coming! If you're here for either breakfast or lunch there will be a line and the service will be a little slow but it is 1000 percent worth it. The ladies are always nice but BUSY! There is some seating but it's mostly carry out/hot bar style. Portion sizes are crazy but worth it for the money (please don't change)! The fried chicken is always a go to but the pork chops are also delicious! For breakfast, BEC on croissant, HANDS DOWN!"
"It's getting closer for us to leave so it was time we had our favorite breakfast sandwich, scrapple egg and cheese. I did a search in Door Dash and I found Kimmys soul food. The grits are good, but I thought it came with cheese since the option said it would be more for EXTRA cheese. But either way they are good. I got the pancakes, eggs and bacon for the nephew. A turkey bacon and egg sandwich for my niece. And fried potatoes, grits and two scrabble egg and cheese sandwiches for my sister and myself. Everythjng is good but the scrapple taste old. It's not pillowy in the middle like we are used to to. It's a decent sandwich, just wish the slices was just a little thicker for the price and we did opt to get extra scrapple in each sandwich."
"Girl's day out and first visit. The establishment is very clean, polite staff and plenty of options. I ordered the seafood omelette with cheese grits. Both items were cold and asked for another serving of grits. The eggs were topped with crabmeat and shrimp. Unfortunately, it was much too salty for consumption. The others in my party thoroughly enjoyed their meals. All agreed that the eating utensils should be upgraded as what we used was of poor quality. I would definitely make a return visit and request no salt especially if you're already using Cajun spices."
"Had the stewed goat and jollof rice! Simply delicious. I'm just getting into the West African food scene but my boo is Naija and he approved!"
"Awesome deal 10 $ meals. It was all yummy and the girl up front was really sweet . I have attached all pics"
"It's a little old fashion and may need to be updated a bit but the food is clean and delicious! l like the way that the food is delivered and it taste so good, especially the spaghetti and the potatoes or Western fries. It's a good place to get a great meal."
"Customer service: 15/10Mac & cheese: 9/10 Chicken: 15/10- the seasoning and ability to keep the chicken moist and crispy is unmatched. Greens: 8/10Sweet potatoes: 9/10Potato salad: 12/10Would I sneak into their house on thanksgiving and pretend I'm a long lost cousin???? Absolutely. Their side items are solid. I judge and soul food place by the quality of mac&cheese and they did not disappoint. I will absolutely return....trying to re-big by back."
"I absolutely love Andrene's Soul Food & Caribbean Cafe. I ran across this spot on the humble. I was in the area because the traffic was detoured. I had a taste for Caribbean cuisine so decided to give it a try. I'm so glad that I did. I had the chicken curry and my son had the curry goat and oxtails. It was BOMB!!! This is my new spot. I had been looking for a good spot since Sweet Mango closed."
"Honestly everyone and everything here was good.1) Turkey necks2) Lamb 3) Drinks... I live in the south so of course I have opinions about southern cooking. This place is doing it right ;)"
"Babbbbyyy! Now if you are looking for soul food that taste like your Auntie or Mama cooked it right in their kitchen, then you need to get here asap!! . I ordered 12 honey lemon pepper wings and 8 honey old bay wings, 2sides of macaroni and a side of string beans. OMG!!! the Mac & cheese was made perfectly! The string beans were cooked well with just the right amount of seasoning and the wings were absolutely delish!!! The service was cool and my order was correct! I will definitely be visiting again!"
"Ok these turkey wings are calm off the bone good. The service is quick and friendly. These turkey wings will cost you 20$ it's a bit steep but you get 2 sides with it. I chose collard greens doubled. The turkey wings sit on a bed of rice. It so good and Turkey are hard to get out. So I pay for them. I have never got sick here and I feel like they take pride In their food preparation. It's looks like some remodeling is going on but currently there is no place to eat here. So they are not a lot of decor here but perhaps it will be open dining one day. I'll be back."
"Still love this spot! I have ordered pretty much everything on the menu at this point. My favorite is the meatloaf. Every time I have a visitor from back home, I take them here. They get jealous whenever I say I'm going to Vibes when they're not in town. The service is still as immaculate as ever from Mr & Mrs Vibes (Andre & Karen) to their staff. No need to complain about wait times, this is a restaurant not a fast food joint. The wait time is pretty standard, about 15-20 minutes. Some times are busier than others (ie when people are getting off of work, or Amish market days Thurs-Sat). Also, this place is always on tiktok so you have to factor in viewers trying it out too. I used to wait in the cold and rain when Vibes was a food truck so I surely don't mind waiting now. A lot of times (that I've noticed) when a food truck becomes brick & mortar, the quality of food and service suffer. Not this place! I love seeing BOBs prosper. Keep up the great work :)"
"Had the queen dinner. Pulled pork sandwich. Was FIRE!!! Loved the fish. Was fried to perfection. Shrimp tasted great. Mac n cheese was good. I saw some bad reviews on the Mac n cheese but I thought it was good. Highly recommend. I ordered on Uber eats. It came pretty quick. Greet service. I highly recommend."
"Omg i ate this food so fast... I'm not a big breakfast person but everything was so good. This review is based solely on sampling off someone else's DoorDash order. The food did arrive warm.Bacon crispyEggs I don't even eat eggs like that but they were amazingThe French toast was very tasty you don't need syrup. The grits were a perfect consistency needed more salt and pepper but tasty nonetheless.I've been hesitant about going to the location to try them but I will be door dashing them soon."
"This is one of my favorite food trucks. I've tried their ribs, pit turkey sandwich (my go to!), hot dogs, Italian sausage, and cheesesteak subs. Everything is delicious. The portions are generous. Don't forget the sides! Grilled BBQ beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese, collard greens, potato salad, corn bread - all fantastic complements to their grill items. Also, I had the pleasure of trying out a new sausage blend they created. It's not on the menu (hopefully soon!!) but they graciously gave us three huge sausages for us to try. It was SO good! The sausages were huge, juicy, and the blend was perfect. Please add this to the menu! The crew always greets you with a compliment and a smile. You can tell they love what they do and they love their customers. They are the nicest people you will meet! Fantastic food and excellent customer service - what more could you want?"
"Local staple in our community. Was craving Turkey wings and wasn't totally disappointed. They were cooked just (not too big like some I've had previously) gravy was tasteful however the rice was a little mushy(I'm sure that has happened to all of us at some point) cabbage was just okay -nothing to right home about but the yams weren't what I've had previously. I say that as they weren't sweet pretty bland(I've had better from here). The service was wonderful as I was greeted immediately once I entered the store and th e line moved quickly. No establishment is ever going to receive 5 stars every time as it's life. What I will say is that I've recommended this place if anyone asks for good soul food. Sadly I didn't take any pictures"
"Ok, so I didn't feel like cooking was craving a little would food and so I hop on Yelp to find that there is a new soul food spot in silver spring. If you're not looking for it you'd almost miss it it's tucked on a back street across from a bunch of body shooed there street parking and a very small parking lot with about 4 spots to the left of it. Anywho I called to order ahead but they were out of whiting so I opted to go in and order. What we had: Sticky wings- 10's across the board perfect mix of crunchy and sweet hint of heat. It's their take on mambo sauce and I must say it's better than traditional mambo. Salmon plate: I got it medium and I was surprised that it was cooked to perfection and I think it's glazed with that same stick sauce. ALSO A HIT! Mac- I am picky about Mac, but it was good it has a hint of sweetness which as a Mac girl it I wasn't expecting but once I got over the shocker was good! (It took me 2 seconds) Greens- they used smoked turkey instead of pork, I really prefer my greens savory these also had a him of sweetness, they were good just not my preferred way of them being prepared. Catfish- we requested it fried hard and it was delicious. Fried okra- I do not like okays my partner ordered this and he was a fan. I tasted it and it was actually good, a tinge bit salty for me but on a scale of a person who would rather stare than eat okra it was pretty tasty. The customer service was great. The staff was really friendly and personable. The place is also super cute inside with nice colorful are and some tables for dine in which was a pleasant surprise. Because I thought it was just a carry out. Over all it is most definitely worth a try!"
"The person answering the phone to take reservations is extremely rude! Should've went with my gut but we went anyway and I will say the food was pretty good! The server was not friendly, didn't smile .. just blah! I don't see why so many ppl keep coming to a place that CLEARLY does not need customers because if they did they would treat us with a little more respect and kindness. So sad to see them turn away soo many parties of 2 because they didn't have a reservation. The restaurant had 3 other couples that's it. I would love to come back to try different items in the menu but I can't deal with the rudeness of the staff / owner. Not worth it. All of the negative reviews I read are spot on!!!! Smh"
