"Found out about Granny's through a video that Slice & Rice filmed, reviewing multiple items on the menu. And then drove down from Philly because my husband was convinced! The power of influencers :) A big FYI: NO DINE-IN! They don't have a timeline on when the dining area will reopen either. I asked, as of March 2024. Wings: Ordered the peach bourbon wingettes and lemon pepper wingettes. The sauce on the peach bourbon wingettes is very good! Worth a try! The wings are larger than what you'd get at Buffalo Wild Wings or a restaurant like that. The one thing about no dine-in for these wings is that they aren't 100% crispy by the time you eat them, sadly. They were still fairly crispy after a 30 minute car ride though! Sides: ordered collard greens and creamy grits. You gotta eat the grits fairly quickly or they'll get a weird texture. I thought they were fine without adding any butter but accordingly to my husband, my taste buds are bland. Farm raised catfish: if you minus the two sides' costs that are included in the total price, the price is comparable. It was well fried and fairly sized for what it was worth. Bigger than what you'd get at a Cracker Barrel! Customer service: great! Very friendly! I appreciated how they put foil down in the plastic take-out containers."
"Food was great the yams off the chain. Fried chicken was good. No crowd ordered online and food was ready when I walked in the door."

"This spot is close to our home and I saw it had good reviews so decided to check it out! It's small inside, but there is some seating if you choose to eat your food there as we did. The staff were very friendly and willing to answer questions. We ordered curry chickun, baked mac and cheese, and lentil patties. It was a short wait and our food was ready. My bf liked his lentil patties and I liked the taste I had. The mac and cheese is of course different from typical mac and cheese, but I still liked the flavor and texture of it. I loved the chickun curry! I didn't miss meat in this at all; the flavors and textures were awesome. I am not a vegan or vegetarian, but I still enjoy adding meatless meals and more veggies to my diet. I'll definitely return to this spot for more delicious food!"
"Carolina Kitchen has been a staple in thr DC area for awhile. This is the first time I did delivery. The food was packaged thoughtfully for delivery, making sure my fried foods wouldnt get damaged. I can appreciate that. My only big grip was that i didnt get gravy with my mash potatoes. If I would have gone in person that would have been an option."
"My last visit to Ruby's was disappointing at best. Sinha really the same food in the new building? Oh and no Mac and Cheese..."all out"...how does that happen. I guess the rent for the new place has limited the ingredients. And for the price I'll stay away...for now.BTW this isn't a knock on the service or the people. They are still good the food just isn't as good as it used to be."
"I experienced Miss Toya's Creole House the first time recently. I loved the music and aesthetic of the restaurant! A lot of space for big parties if you choose to go in a big group. I just went with my aunt! My Aunt got the sangria which was huge and she said very delicious it had a popsicle at the top for decoration which we thought was cute. I had the shrimp and grits and it was so good very flavorful the grits alone were too good but with the shrimp it took it to a whole different level! And it tastes good the next day I definitely recommend the shrimp and grits. I cannot wait to go back and try more items off their menu! Our server was so sweet and very attentive!"
"Ethel's was authentic New Orleans food. The place is decorated with guitars and plenty of kitsch. The gold walls and clean decor remind you of a New Orleans classy restaurant. The music in the atmosphere is top of the chain and will have you humming. We started off with some great French bread that was super hot out the oven. It was crunch on the outside and hot and fresh on the inside. Your choice or butter of olive oil. We chose the olive oil which was of a good quality. It could have had some herbs. They grow their own herbs. So that is easy to do. You could eat just the bread and be satisfied in your soul.As an appetizer we elected to do the Chipeppa. It is a stuffed pepper with roasted red bell pepper, onions, cheese, andouille sausage with a fire roasted pepper sauce. They serve the pepper inverted in a bowl. It was very delicious. I would get it again.Next up was the jambalaya. It was a wet jambalaya with tomato sauce in it. Almost like a Spanish rice. There are as many jambalyas as there are gumbo. This one has beautiful meaty jumbo shrimp. And the andouille again this time it was harder than the pepper. So it was a little tough to eat. The jambalaya was good but I would not order it againThe red beans and rice was a rich dish. The beans themselves were well cooked. They tasted like some grandmother from NOLA had slowed simmered them all day. They were also loaded with you guessed it, andouille. I would have liked some good pickle meat or ham instead of the andouille. But they were disappeared because they were good. I would be happy to order it."
"A staple in the community and an icon that stood through the civil right movement! You want good ole fashioned soul food with a combination of history and welcoming new trends, then FAG is the place! They are undergoing renovations and have added a new upstairs section, which is awesome- I gave the new consultant some ideas for improvements :-). Whether a native or visiting, this is a must on the list of places to dine!"
"We made a reservation for 10 and it became 12 and they made it work and happen!!! I thought it would be an issue getting the food out but it worked...service was ok...it was a lot and they forgot a few things and it was just ok.I was worried as I made this reservation and it was far from where we were staying near the convention center...but it was worth traveling for according to my friends that came with. The only thing that was kind of strange to me was that the food came in plastic to go containers...even if you ate in the restaurant.Across 12 ppl, they ordered a wide variety of things and I didn't hear one complaint...so that is a good thing. I didn't go around and take pictures, and I should have...missed opportunity.I don't know that I would come back here but it was what the people wanted on this day!"
"Honestly everyone and everything here was good.1) Turkey necks2) Lamb 3) Drinks... I live in the south so of course I have opinions about southern cooking. This place is doing it right ;)"
"I absolutely love Andrene's Soul Food & Caribbean Cafe. I ran across this spot on the humble. I was in the area because the traffic was detoured. I had a taste for Caribbean cuisine so decided to give it a try. I'm so glad that I did. I had the chicken curry and my son had the curry goat and oxtails. It was BOMB!!! This is my new spot. I had been looking for a good spot since Sweet Mango closed."
"I haven't had soul food in DC in years because most of the places have been hit or miss with food quality. Henry's gets a 10/10!!! Crispy fried chicken like my grandma would make in Tennessee or down south at my alumni college Jackson State. The portions are large and the food is yummy!!!! Tip: Call to order your food in advance or the wait can be long. There is no seating only carryout."

Yup...5 years later and Granny's is still 5 stars in my book. I've been coming to Granny's since they were at their first location near Stevenson University. The owner used to come by all of the tables to see how the food was. I followed them to all of their locations lol. Let me tell you the customer service is always 5 stars, over the phone and in person. The food was 5 stars back then and it's still the same. They have consistently provided stellar customer service and excellent food. My go to is the salmon cake dinner with mac and cheese, greens, and yams. The dill sauce that comes with the salmon cake dinner is chef's kiss. I picked up some sides for the upcoming holiday and while it was crazy there the staff were helpful and GENUINELY friendly. I'm not getting compensated by Granny's and I am not a friend or family member of the restaurant. I just love me some Granny's food.

Awesome food. Well seasoned. Ample portions. Order the combo plates. Clean facility. Ignore the police cruiser sitting at the front door. Unnecessary.

If Vegan food tastes better than the original counterparts, it'll be easy to go all out vegan. Upon entering this amazing establishment, we were greeted by the owner while classic hip hop music from the early and mid 90's was playing. And then our food came.......we ordered the crab cakes, the ribs, cornbread, and the chicken salad wrap. We got yams and maccaroni as the sides and lemonade and water to drink...Impressed and please are two words I rarely use when describing food, but when you put soul into vegan food, or any food for that matter, it shows. The crab cakes were the show stopper!! I don't know what vegetables one uses to recreate the taste and texture of a crab cake, but hands down, the best crab cakes I've ever eaten and that's regular or vegan for that matter. The ribs had such a sweet and smokey flavor along with the peppers....chefs kiss. The chicken salad wrap was very flavorful, I can't stop praising the food and the people making it happen. I will say that we will definitely return.BravoBellissimo

Amazing food. Always cooked to perfection. My girl introduced me to this place and its now a favorite of ours for date night. Real soul food, real jerk. Seasoning always on point and is never too long a wait. Atmosphere is relaxing and chill. A little on the pricier side but it's definitely worth it in my opinion.

Location was clean, the decor was cute & outdoorsy and customer service was great. I got in line, placed my order and it was ready in about 10-15 mins. The food was phenomenal. I also ordered their house made sweet tea and it was so good! Everyone recommended each flavor so it was hard to pick. Happy with my experience here!

Went back and again they did not disappoint. The food is always to cry for. The service is always welcoming and the vibes are always good. I suggest you try several things on the menu. It's honestly too hard to just pick one. There's a garage nearby so parking isn't a big deal.

Had dinner here for the second time last night and I cannot wait to return. Our server, Ameena, was very knowledgeable and pleasant. We were one of two families who came out on Super Bowl Sunday to dine, and we could not have been more impressed. My dad and I ordered the 1/2 rack of bbq ribs and mashed potatoes while my mother ordered the NOLA chicken. My dad and I also ordered the Back Porch, a delicious bourbon - based cocktail with Earl Grey Tea and other spirits. We all started with appetizers, with my parents getting cream of crab soup and I a salad with walnuts and green apples. I look forward to returning to such a neighborhood gem! #HappyDining

I've been wanting to try this place for forever but I was never sure if/when they were open. I was determined to try them so I absolutely had to figure it out. It's lent and as a New Orleans native, I was craving some good fried catfish. The menu stated they had "Cajun" fried catfish so I had to check it out myself. This is true fried catfish that could satisfy any Creole or Cajun's tastebuds. As many others have stated, this place is ran by a one woman show in the front. I didn't even catch her name because she was so busy but she was always kind. When you come in, you take a seat and there is a barcode for you to scan and order. This place used to be cash only now it's card only so be prepared (this is where the star is lost). I ordered the catfish dinner with macaroni and candied yams as my side. Like others have stated, the candied yams do give "canned." Probably Gloria's but lucky for me, I like canned candied yams. The price isn't astronomical so I'm not going to throw a fit about it. The macaroni and cheese was really good. I made sure to take a picture of the drink. I had fruit punch with a splash of lemonade. Tastes like some good ol red Kool aid from summers as a kid. And they have the "good ice" here! I love a no frills diner so I will be back especially since we are currently in the season of lent. This place also has a Jamaican menu starting at a certain time. I plan on checking that part of the menu out as well.

"Hidden Gem! Totally the best service and food along 301S. I've been coming here for years and although a wait, NEVER a disappointment. From breakfast to lunch I have never had a "bad" meal. The cost point is also nostalgic, pocket friendly. If you're ever looking for a guaranteed great meal and service - STOP BY!"
"First time going here last night and I was going to get the mango Caribbean salad bowl but I decided to build my own. I am glad I did! I put together the following: Half romaine, half pineapple coconut rice, Grilled shrimp, BBQ chicken, Mango salsa, Plantain chips, Broccoli, and Tomatoes Then on the side I got: coconut curry sauce, BBQ ranch, and chipotle Caesar (I wasn't sure how they would taste either)Unfortunately, They had no jerk vinaigrette at the time I went. The service was swift and the girl who checked me out at the register was nice. Everyone seemed to be very focus on getting orders together (there was a long line behind me). The place was clean and small/intimate. I would most likely use this place as a to-go order. Now the combination I made?! BOMB! It was a 10/10! I am so FLOORED by the bowl I made that I want to double back there today lol I will certainly be a regular!!!"
"This was some real down home cookin'.I had the pig feet dinner. Don't judge. The meatiest feet I've ever had. If you don't know, don't worry, you just don't know. The Mac n cheese was to die for and the yams had me lookin for Mom in the kitchen. Mom's gone on."
"Great soul food! I love their cabbage and my boyfriend loves their chicken box. I am gluten free so I typically either get the vegetable tray or baked fish. The sweet potatoes and potato salad were tasty as well. The staff is friendly and helpful and I always get to go but the ambience is clean and welcoming.I highly recommend!"
"Really good chicken, Good coleslaw, good greens and phenomenal catfish. Great service Nice people, clean and easy. Takes a few minutes to get your food because they cook it fresh for you and it is worth it. The only reason I won't be back is because I don't live near here, I'm a little jealous of folks that do!"
"Ok these turkey wings are calm off the bone good. The service is quick and friendly. These turkey wings will cost you 20$ it's a bit steep but you get 2 sides with it. I chose collard greens doubled. The turkey wings sit on a bed of rice. It so good and Turkey are hard to get out. So I pay for them. I have never got sick here and I feel like they take pride In their food preparation. It's looks like some remodeling is going on but currently there is no place to eat here. So they are not a lot of decor here but perhaps it will be open dining one day. I'll be back."
"YUM! We got catfish and shrimp over grits with an amazing sauce. The shrimp were succulent and delicious. The grits were so good, we saved some and had them with breakfast. Will definitely be back."
"Local staple in our community. Was craving Turkey wings and wasn't totally disappointed. They were cooked just (not too big like some I've had previously) gravy was tasteful however the rice was a little mushy(I'm sure that has happened to all of us at some point) cabbage was just okay -nothing to right home about but the yams weren't what I've had previously. I say that as they weren't sweet pretty bland(I've had better from here). The service was wonderful as I was greeted immediately once I entered the store and th e line moved quickly. No establishment is ever going to receive 5 stars every time as it's life. What I will say is that I've recommended this place if anyone asks for good soul food. Sadly I didn't take any pictures"
"Bomb ass crab cake!! First timers and man were we blown away. Delicious. Full of real crab meat. Family oriented atmosphere."
"Customer service: 15/10Mac & cheese: 9/10 Chicken: 15/10- the seasoning and ability to keep the chicken moist and crispy is unmatched. Greens: 8/10Sweet potatoes: 9/10Potato salad: 12/10Would I sneak into their house on thanksgiving and pretend I'm a long lost cousin???? Absolutely. Their side items are solid. I judge and soul food place by the quality of mac&cheese and they did not disappoint. I will absolutely return....trying to re-big by back."
"Pinky's catered a birthday party at the American Legion, Post 206 in Chesapeake Beach today. The food was incredible! Keith fried fish on location as well as burgers, hot dogs and Chicken. Tiffany served pasta salad, potato salad, the world's best Mac'n Cheese, greens were to die for, fresh sweet potatoes, salad and a few other items. If you are looking for someone to make your next event special, consider Pinky's. You will not be disappointed."
"The perfect lunch staple for you if you're in the Station North area. Black owned business tucked away with good food for lunch or early dinner.Highlights are the menu offering, the food made with love, and the impeccable customer service. Soul Kuisine café is one that's on my to go lunch spot that while I know I can't hide it as a secret forever deserves all the flowers for such great food.Note: This is a carry out spot. Be careful on the steps because the bottom one is steep."
"Plenty of food in your order but flavorless and unseasoned vegetables were over cooked and soggy I like a little snap in mine the wings were large and juicy and not dried out under the skin but again unseasoned and tasteless if your hungry this is the place to go but if you are looking for good taste this is not the place"
"Welcome welcome welcome. When someone asks where can I get soul food I send them here. They always give robust portions of food. My favorite is the beef tips and I always get greens and yams. This place doesn't miss period."
"Girl's day out and first visit. The establishment is very clean, polite staff and plenty of options. I ordered the seafood omelette with cheese grits. Both items were cold and asked for another serving of grits. The eggs were topped with crabmeat and shrimp. Unfortunately, it was much too salty for consumption. The others in my party thoroughly enjoyed their meals. All agreed that the eating utensils should be upgraded as what we used was of poor quality. I would definitely make a return visit and request no salt especially if you're already using Cajun spices."
"Omg i ate this food so fast... I'm not a big breakfast person but everything was so good. This review is based solely on sampling off someone else's DoorDash order. The food did arrive warm.Bacon crispyEggs I don't even eat eggs like that but they were amazingThe French toast was very tasty you don't need syrup. The grits were a perfect consistency needed more salt and pepper but tasty nonetheless.I've been hesitant about going to the location to try them but I will be door dashing them soon."
"It's okay for overpriced "ok" food. The Yams had too much vanilla extract and the mac n cheese had too much egg. I ended up throwing it out. They do wingettes not wings, just wanna point that out there. The guys were sitting outside posted up lol. I probably won't go back. The place was empty. Service was good, no complaints, I cook so I know what's bomb and what ain't lls."
"I've been here so many times, and every time I am reminded of why I keep coming! If you're here for either breakfast or lunch there will be a line and the service will be a little slow but it is 1000 percent worth it. The ladies are always nice but BUSY! There is some seating but it's mostly carry out/hot bar style. Portion sizes are crazy but worth it for the money (please don't change)! The fried chicken is always a go to but the pork chops are also delicious! For breakfast, BEC on croissant, HANDS DOWN!"
"I had a grubhub mishap and Gary helped fix the issue that wasn't even HIS ISSUE to begin with! His customer service is one I have not seen in a long time! Handles business with care, food was warm, attitude was warm! When I say this guy has a good head on his shoulders I MEAN IT! Thanks you for excellent food along with excellent customer service!"
"The food was so good for dinner that I had to come back the next day for breakfast. I've seen many opinions of the food so here is mine. If your looking for some soul food--- this place is for youIf you don't mind seasoning on your food (I know I do!) --this place is for you. If your from the south or the Caribbean islands and you want something that taste like yo Mud (if u don't know thin ya douno) dipped her big toe in---this place is for you!My son and I almost ran back up here and smacked the people in the back after we tasted our food! For dinner we had Salmon Cakes with Candied Yams & rice and gravy. I got what I craved... chitterlings and Mac N Cheese Meatloaf. Then I went back for breakfast and tore up someFish and grits and eggs. Sooo yes, I loved it! The portions were huge! The morning crew was nicer than the evening crew. But I didn't go to make friends. I went to eat and the food was BANGING!"
"Look here, idk who cooked this cornbread but KEEP MAKING IT !! Today my food was extremely freshly made & tasted Amazing. Whole meal 10/10"
"It's maybe my third time here & my second experience of disappointment. TL;DR: I highly suggest that you check your order, especially your take out order thoroughly before leaving. THOROUGHLY! Don't do a quick check. Move your food items around to make sure they are accounted for.I ordered online which was fairly easy as the food system denotes what's in stock or sold out (this will be important later).I arrived & was handed my order; I wanted a printed receipt but the staff that handed me my order said he was heading out & to ask the cashier. I decided since I had to wait on the receipt to take a quick look at my order (it is plastered all over the store to check your order before leaving; I reallywantedmy dessert so I took heed).I noticed the cake that I ordered wasn't in the bag; just then the staff that handed me my order was coming back in the store. He asked had I gotten my printed receipt; I told him I was still waiting to be helped but I didn't see my cake. He said "oh, this is what happened, we ran out of what you ordered"...1. why not tell me that when you handed me the bag? Why leave it for me to "discover" when you knew it wasn't included? 2. Or why did the ordering system allow me to order it? (perhaps they had just run out of it) He allowed me to select another option. I checked & the other food items looked like they were accounted for.I got my printed receipt & left.It wasn't until I got home & was plating my crabby fries with shrimp that I noticed the shrimp wasn't there. I thought when I looked in the store that it was smothered under the crab dip. (The order was for crabby fries with shrimp, not the add-on option)The cost of food prices in general is high for orders not to be accurate. And while customers do bear a level of accountability, the establishment should too - even after the customer leaves. It was obvious to me that the staff knew my dessert wasn't bagged because it was sold out but handed it to me without alerting me anyway (the slice of cake is $6) & I don't know the story on the missing shrimp (which was an additional $4 more than just the crabby fries order). So had I not checked my order I could've been out about $10 of a $40 order because of the establishment's mistake. I didn't bother to return or call, I took the loss but I know, if there's a next time, to check my order thoroughly."
"The food was tasty, but the portion was not adequate. I ordered oxtail, rice and peas, plantains and 3 coco bread. The coco bread was awful, it was dry and had no flavor. The oxtail was not the normal diameter; it was cut in half or one normal piece looks like it was cut to make three pieces. I will not be back. I spent over $40.00. The plantain was dreadful, it was over ripe and soaked in oil. I had to throw the plantains and coco bread away."
