The sauce and repollo really elevated the dish to another level. The tamarindo was perfectly balanced, not too sweet like some places can make it. They also have pastries up front that look incredible , and I'm already looking forward to trying them on my next visit. I genuinely loved my experience here and can't wait to come back! Jerry S. "Ay carrumba! More great Latino food in Beltsville! In the mood for chicken, thought I'd try the new shop. It faces route 1 despite the side road address, just north of Powder Mill. Counter with sides on a steam table, tables and chairs pushed back in the corner, a rack of Latino baked goods next to the register. A bit of communication issue, but I ordered a half chicken by pointing to the menu, and headed home to enjoy it.The chicken was deeply marinated, tender and smoky. Black beans perfectly cooked and savory. Yuca a little crusty but good. Tasty sauce, medium had just enough kick. Generous serving, delicious food, and I got change from a $10. My nuevo favorito since Sardi's started getting corporate. Eager to try their other meats."

The food was delicious, coming out hot and fresh, with tender and flavorful meat. They were on top of any extras we may have wanted - grilled jalapeños, house made hot sauce, etc. Everything was reasonably priced as well. I can't wait to come back and try more of their dishes!"

We got the pupusas both mixed and cheese. They came with a nice dipping sauce. We also got the pastelitos de carne, chicken tamales, yuca fries, and a couple of mojitos. My favorite we're definitely the pupusas and the yuca fries. The bits of crispy meat paired with the starchy yuca were so delicious! We went on a weekday before noon and there was plenty of room."

Halle C. "When I went here, my small party of three ordered a lot to get a taste of the menu: yuca frita con chicharrón, pupusas, baleadas, tamales de elote, horchata, and some jugos. The service was good, the restaurant was clean, but the food tasted like the oil could have been fresher, and there seemed to be a lot more excess oil than I'm used to. This was especially evident in the yuca frita. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt because we came later in the evening, but I do think a popular dish like yuca con chicharrón should be on-point all the time."

So I got a breakfast burrito $7 not bad I guess I wish I was able to load it better but they charge like 75 cents for extra. Makes me miss California Mexican food cuz the give you all the extra onions, pico and green sauce this place didn't do that so it'll my burrito was a bit dry to my taste. But the service was nice very simple no complicated and the ambience of the restaurant was clean it's inside of a gas station."

Boy, did I make the right decision! The Chilaquiles Rojos served with black beans and eggs was amazing! I've even ordered the same meal with a side of chicken to having a more filling plate. They chicken nachos are equally as amazing. They top the nachos with so much goodness, you really need a fork to eat them. This time I didn't have to split any of my pupusas, bwhaha- I savored my own beans & cheese, chicharron, cheese, & loroco, cheese & loroco, and everything- Again, everything was well-seasoned, amply cheesy, and not overly greasy- smothered w.ample curtido & salsa roja. Jerry S. "So Yelp has this new feature on the home page of the app, curated collections. I found this papusa joint with 4.5 stars under " cheap eats" 2 miles from home. It's a standalone building in the industrial side of Beltsville, on the far side of the tracks. Slightly seedy atmosphere, like a diner way off the main road. Steady stream of customers even on a Saturday afternoon. Between my 50 year old high school Spanish and pointing to the menu, I managed to place my order. The papusas are incredible, large, real corn flavor, and generously filled for a modest $2 each. The dipping sauce didn't seem to have its own flavor but enhanced anything that I baptized. Interesting slaw: room temperature, no dressing, crisp cabbage with carrot slivers and a bit herb I didn't recognize, with just a touch of hot pepper. The yuca was perfectly fried, crisp outside and creamy inside. Likewise the chunks of pork, juicy and just a little chew. Jamaica nicely balanced and complex.Sorry, Nelly's, I have a new Salvadoran local favorite. A hidden gem worth the detour. Easy five ***** for taste and value, if you don't like the atmosphere get take out. Ole!"

Got there at 5ish, and had a few patrons and kinda quiet. Very clean, music playing. The staff were SO FRIENDLY! They let me sample the tamarind drink = yummy. We ordered CARNE DESILADA CON HUEVO with French bread vs tortilla, I had the TACOS DE LENGUA and a TAMALES DE POLLO. Every bite was amazing for us both! I gotta say I have judged restaurants solely for their tamales alone, and this is literally one of the best I have ever had. It was huge with a giant tender piece of chicken in it, with a potato, tomato and chickpeas in it! Very unique but the taste...goodness. I want to go back now for another but I am FULL.The Lengua street tacos were on point, delicious. My husband's breakfast dish was fantastic he said, just enough. And he was SO HAPPY he chose the French bread, because apparently that was delicious. He wouldn't let me taste it, it was so good!We wanted to try the BUDIN (Salvadoran-style banana bread pudding) but they were sold out, likely because it was super delicious as well! Sharon W. "If I had just passed by the Bamboo Cafe I would never have stopped, thinking it was probably Asian food. I'm glad I discovered the reviews though because it definitely has some delicious Mexican/Peruvian food. It's small with just a few tables and and the ordering counter. There is a drink cooler with sodas and beer. Rich found a lager beer from Peru which he had to try and has really enjoyed it. The kitchen is partitioned off with clear Plexiglas so you can watch some of the cooking. Rich saw one of the cooks mixing the batter for the quesadillas before grilling. Talk about fresh! And I must say the chicken quesadillas and tacos were some of the best I've ever eaten. The tortillas were the star of the show. The chicken in them was good but just a little dry. We also had an order of BBQ wings which Rich thought were a little overcooked, but I really didn't notice. I love that you can just order as many quesadillas or tacos as you want without having to get a platter full of rice and beans. And I am craving those tacos with the salsa laced with cilantro (I'm one of those people who loves cilantro.) There is also a buffet behind the Plexiglas that is served by a staff person, but I'm not really sure how that works. The main reason I didn't give the Bamboo Cafe 5 stars is because we haven't figured out an easy way to order and pick up our food. On our first visit we went between breakfast and lunch service so it was quiet and we could wait for our food without getting in anyone's way. The second time we tried to pre-order by phone. Let's just say it was a dismal failure. Rich ended up going and waiting for our food in the cafe. In the meantime, while we try to figure this out, I will still crave one of those tacos and a quesadilla."

We called ahead to order and that requires some patience as the atmosphere in the background is lively and you need to make sure you're clear in your request. The PDF menu online and what is on the online order menu are different - both pricing and options - so we stuck with the filling choices from the PDF menu. I went for a chicken taco and a chorizo taco. They are on two corn tortillas (flour available by request for a slight upcharge) that are amply filled with meat that is clearly well prepared and seasoned. All tacos are served with a side of cilantro, onions, radish and cucumbers with two salsas (red and green). The chorizo was by far my favorite, but both were good. They were filling and just what we needed for lunch that day."

Bare room so far, two booths and a dozen tables of varying size. I may be coining a phrase, but Latino Fusion comes to mind, as the menu includes Guatemalan, Peruvian, Honduran, and Salvadoran dishes as well as Mexican. I tried the carne asada, nicely marinated but cooked a bit well done for my taste. It was accompanied by a bit of undressed salad (lemon squeeze salt and pepper worked OK), some chufa rice, a ramekin of savory smooth re-fried beans, and very authentic tortillas that make me hopeful that the Mexican tacos will be worthwhile when a run to Taco Bar doesn't fit my schedule. I also enjoyed the Chicha Morada, a sweet Peruvian beverage made from purple corn and spices. The taste might be described as like lingonberry, sweet and tart, with a bit of allspice. No soda or tea listed on the menu, no alcohol. Friendly service, plenty of parking. Hidden for sure, gem you might have to stretch to semi-precious. I'm expecting this one to improve with age."

They both were out in light ten or fifteen minutes, and both meals were delicious. The waitress was attentive, coming to my table multiple times to ask if everything was ok.
