Trendy D. "Walked in on a Saturday night. This location is a little more lax and not as busy as the DC location. I've been here a few times and normally the food is great. This time they burned the rice and the flavor of the jollof was off. We ordered the goat stew with jollof, plantain, and cabbage as the sides. The goat stew was flavorful a delicious and there was a good amount of meat in the stew so I was very pleased. I will say although the jollof did come out burned the waitress was very kind and accommodating. She brought us a new bowl of jollof and said if it still didn't taste up to par she would bring out a different side. The new bowl was mildly better so we stuck with it to not give her difficult time. The Samosas are a MUST TRY. They also have two delicious sauces that come with the samosa a really yummy pepper sauce and sweet sauce. The parking lot can make it difficult to get a spot. Goat stew 4/5Plantain 4/5Cabbage 3.5/5Jollof 2.5/5 Chai Tea 5/5 Samosa 5/5Overall, I will still continue coming to this establishment. Swahili was the original restaurant that showed Traditional African food meeting class. They food a way to standardize the quality of the food so that a majority of the time no matter which chain you go to the food quality is the same. They also bring the vibes with great drinks and music! The other African restaurants are only now catching up."

Spacious seating, good for groups / individuals / couples. Parking is available in front of the restaurant (street parking) or the side of the building. Beautiful decor inside. We were seated promptly, our order taken shortly after. The food arrived piping hot. Filling portions and I took my leftovers to-go. Not too pricey, in comparison to similar area restaurants.Check it out."

Krishna P. "Warning: this place is not for everyone. Don't go here on a date, don't go with kids, don't go if you are on a rush and don't go if you feel entitled. This is a very humble establishment that runs on African time but serves really authentic cuisine. Go here solely for the food. Better if you can do a take out order. I had grilled lamb with spinach, jollof rice and sweet plantains. Just amazing. I also did a take out order of Ndolle (goat with some bitter leaf gravy). Loved it. There are too many issues with the restaurant. Outdated ambience, super super slow service, difficulty communicating with the staff which resulted in some extra side dishes I ended up paying for, their website doesn't work, the prices they charged were a bit more than what was on the menu (basically outdated menus) and the list simply goes on.Inspite of all these issues, I would still go there because none of those issues seemed intentional. I didn't see foul play. The manager/owner Patrick and the server/cashier Agbenfa both seemed naive and humble. They tried to make sure I enjoyed the food. I also feel I may have gotten lucky because the food that was served to me was hot. (Not cold or room temp like some of the others mentioned) I went on a Friday night. I would have to try a few more times before judging if the food is consistent. But the two entrees and the three sides I tried were all phenomenal. It also helps if you know what you are getting but I like to try new things especially when I am going to authentic places and I don't mind taking small risks. Oh the portions were huge. When it took 30 mins for the lady to come take my order, I was all set to leave the place and was prepared for a 1star experience as I started reading the reviews. But I'm glad my patience served me well. I wasn't in a rush. It was a lazy Friday evening. Lazy enough to stick around long enough to try their food."

They give plenty of injera bread too. I've gotten the yawaze tibs, which are delicious. I've also gotten the side of lentil sambusa which is also super flavorful and yummy. My boyfriend has gotten dullet and loved it. He liked it so much that the first time he ordered it he told me to make sure we remember this place so he can keep getting it. You also get a lot of food. I don't know how in person service is, but for delivery my experience has consistently been good. You also get a free can drink with meals, which isn't even stated on doordash, so that was a pleasant surprise."

There are a few tables and a big menu outside the restaurant itself, so I took a minute to look at that. I decided to get the porridge yam (Asaro) with chicken and greens. It took about 20 minutes, so I decided to run to the gym and get a quick workout in while waiting. It took another minute or so when I got back, but the staff were very friendly and apologetic for the wait! They showed me the food before putting it in the bag. I got very excited!I got home, started a movie and dug in. The chicken and greens were good, but the Asaro was DEFINITELY the star of the show. So very flavorful and satisfying! My only wish is that there was more of the porridge itself! I could have an entire bowl of that alone!I will definitely be back to Jodeem to try more menu items."

It's their own version of a taco with rice, chicken or beef, cheese and vegetables. I love veggies, so I was disappointed the second time I ordered when more rice and less vegetables greeted my tongue. I knew something was missing. Took a look and saw few green or yellow (onions). Now, the pizza was just as DELICIOUS as the first time I had it. The sautéed greens were a bit pricey but very tasty. Yes, I highly recommend and will go again."

The Caribbean entree we ordered was the jerk salmon with curried cabbage, fried plantains, rice and peas, and Mac n cheese. Yes, all one order and simply amazing! It was such a good portion! The Ghanaian dishes we ordered were the banku with okra and rice with spinach stew. I'm not a banku and okra fan, so I didn't try it, but the spinach stew tasted so good. Una D. "Really bad I'm a big fan of jollof rice as well as goat meat. This place is a little bit confusing because they have a takeout area which seems to be very popular and I can understand why to some extent as well as a sit down venue which is near the barbershop. I chose to do the sit down place after standing around in the takeout place. In the sit-down place I got the jollof rice with plantains and goat meat. Let me start out by saying that I've had excellent jollof rice and this definitely was not it I'm not sure what the flavor profile they put into it but it definitely had a odd chemical butane kind of odor I didn't dig it. The rice was cooked well but the flavor was just awful. It was not spicy at all It's definitely not even close to the jollof rice I've had at some of the Nigerian parties I've attended. The goat meat was god-awful. I really like good goat meat but they gave very very small pieces of go full of fat and bones, the Yelp reviews were spot on with this. On top of the the meat itself was cooked horribly more like a combination of fibrous chewing gum. I have never had goat meat this bad in my life. And it hurts to waste food but I ate as much of it as I could. The one redeeming quality was that there was a pretty good piece of bone marrow that I got out of it. The plantings were the best part of it and one piece was not thoroughly cooked. Lot of the other reviewers have commented on the service. Yes definitely there is a lot of problems and issues here. For one they don't honor the Yelp check-in. Not just that but the attitude was extremely terrible. The woman who sat me down literally through the menu on the table. Nobody brought water They attempted to put utensils directly onto the table and there is no place setting. Any kind of decorum that you expect at a typical restaurant it ain't happening here. I'm not sure who this will cater to but I don't even think the immigrant class will tolerate this which is probably why they flock to the takeout area. That being said the one girl who I encountered at the takeout area was extremely nice and showed me where the sit down area was. Parking is free and in a parking lot. The price is really bad for the value of the food. ambience in the restaurant is really irritating. Maybe if you like this kind of music it is loud and boisterous and from some of the other diners who I observed nobody was listening to it but we're trying to talk all over it. And at sometimes the stereo blasted it even louder. Overall I'm glad I tried it but if I want my African fix I know other places that deliver much better quality."

Ghana Jollof Rice is the best, I just thought I'd add that plug in for those who don't know. I had to put some of my friends on to The Hunger Tamer. So when I'm feeling too lazy to cook my own jollof rice, this is a nice substitute. During Pandemic: I went the other day and the rice was ok. I gave him a $20 (mind you this was just like within seconds) he turned to me & says what did you give me...a $20...my food was ready in seconds, OK you gain points for that, but you lose points for my sandwich being slightly hot (temperature) especially when I was dining in. When we walked in, they sat us at a table, then the owner, TJ, came to us and asked, "what do you want here?". It was a really weird question to ask customers. We were like "food!". Then he was, "do you know what you want?". We were not sure what we wanted because it was our first time there, and he did not even give us a menu yet but asked us what we wanted. It was a bit weird. We told him that it was our first time here and we wanted to try to food out. He finally gave us the menu. The menu was a one-page paper. He asked us if we wanted to try the food out, he will provide us with something different from the menu. We asked for chicken, fish, and meat as our main dishes. With the drink, they gave us a punch that tastes good and very gingerly. He also asked us if we wanted anything while waiting for the main dishes. He told us to try their kabob. The kabob tastes like beef jerky with a spicy powder and onion pickles on top. We are all like the kabob.I personally like the fish the best among the main dishes. The fish dish has plantains, I like the plantains, but my friends do not like the plantains. The chicken was okay, and the meat was assorted, so it tastes a bit weird to me, but one of my friends likes the meat. The price was pricy there. It was more expensive than we expected. And because what he gave us was not on the menu, we have no idea if the price was right. He told us he gave us a bit of everything to try out. If there is a problem with the order, they need to cancel it with the carrier promptly, not after I've waited (to the point where any other order will be well past dinner time).
