A great laid back restaurant with a delicious menu! The pizzas and salads are my favorite. The kids chicken pot pie is ENORMOUS.

Don't make the mistake of not knowing how this place runs because the waitress will ignore you and the other staff will chastise you for getting it wrong.I've been here, ordered, sat down and enjoyed my meal. Nope - after a certain hour there are wait staff. Would have been a nice piece of information to get from the young lady who took my order, but the humiliating waitress let me know when she said "what are you waiting on ". I quickly consumed half my sandwich that I had to ask the manager for myself and left.If you're going to have a system - don't assume everyone knows what it is.Thanks for the embarrassment

TLDR: Excellent Italian eats in a casual bistro setting. Come for the brick oven pizza and generously portioned sandwiches. Vibe: 5/5. Located right on Jarretsville Pike, Brookside Market is a counter service Italian Bistro and beer/wine store all in one. When you walk in, the place is nicely laid out with the wine/beer on the left side of the market, dining room on the right and the main counter dead ahead. The ordering process is simple, you grab a menu at the counter and directly order with the staff at the register and they give you a number card for your table. The staff will then bring the food out to your table and will bus when you are finished. Fountain and chilled cooler drinks are located on the left. Decor is fitting for the restaurant, as Brookside uses your standard modern Italian wall art as well as TVs located all throughout the dining room. The building appears to have been renovated somewhat recently, as everything shows little wear and is nicely appointed. Table wise, it is first come first serve, however there are roughly a dozen + 4 tops in the dining room, so seating should not be an issue for groups both large and small. Service: 5/5. Even with this being a counter service restaurant, we received excellent service from start to finish. My party of 3 went for Saturday lunch around 2pm. The dining room was at half occupancy when we arrived, so we had no problem securing a table. The staff gave us the rundown of how the ordering system works and we're easy to work with. Food turnaround from the time of order was impressively quick. We ordered a half dozen items ranging from pizza to apps and everything was brought out to our table at the same time in about 15 minutes from when entered into the system. They obviously have their service down pact here, which is always a breath of fresh air. Food: 5/5. Loved everything we ordered! For lunch, my party of 3 ordered the cream of crab fries, fried mozzarella, fried pickles, the buffalo chicken pizza, a Greek salad, their blackened chicken sandwich as well as the spicy Italian hoagie. As mentioned above, everything came out quickly and all together. Porion sizes across the board were solid, especially with the sandwiches and salad. The apps, especially the fried mozzarella and pickles could have used 1-2 more pieces at their $8-9 price points, but the flavor made up for it. The cream of crab fries were excellent. The crispy fries had an entire cup of their homemade cream of crab soup poured over the top before serving. The taste of both together is a fun combo for any Marylander. The buffalo chicken pizza was also a slam dunk. Using blackened chicken, the ratio of chicken to Bleu cheese to hot sauce was balanced to the point where you could taste every ingredient. The brick oven pizza, though a little on the floppy side, had a nice chew to the dough and the great taste from the brick oven. The spicy Italian and blackened chicken sandwiches also did not disappoint. Generous portions of meats were toppled high on both which played nice with the respective accoutrements of each sando. In a last minute decision, our table decided to split one of their homemade desserts they have on display at the counter. We opted for the Italian almond cake, which has a chocolate outside encapsulating a soft, almondy rainbow layered cake interior. Soft, fudgy and loaded with almond flavor, this was the perfect ending to a great meal. Our entire meal cost us around $100, which for the amount of food ordered I found to be very reasonable. Overall, if you find yourself in the area, Brookside Market is a great choice for both lunch and dinner!

Our friends invited us to join them for lunch at Brookside Market - a place new to all of us. This is a market/restaurant. One third is dedicated to market items such as beer, wine, sodas, and refrigerated packaged goods. There is a counter where you order your food and pay. They bring the food to your table. The dining area felt more like a sports bar than a dining room, as it had lots of TV's and very little ambience. We were there before noon and the dining area never filled up. We did note that it was quite noisy with only about a dozen people there. I personally felt that the prices were on the high side considering that there was no table service. My husband ordered the Cheesesteak Sub for $13.00 and paid the additional $4.00 for chips and iced tea. He thought the sub was greasy. And, the selection of chips was limited to 2 varieties of Miss Vickie's chips - "sea salt" and "sea salt and vinegar." He chose the "sea salt" chips - which were like kettle chips. He wished they had Utz chips instead.I ordered the Brookside Club ($12.00) which looked nothing like a club sandwich that I have had at any other restaurant. It was turkey, ham, bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise on two slices of thick country white bread cut in half. It was a bit unruly to handle, but the taste was very good. Our friend ordered the Shrimp Salad sandwich ($16.00) which was loaded with shrimp and was very good along with an order of French Fries ($4.00). Her husband had the same club as I did and felt the same way I did - hard to handle. He also ordered Onion Rings ($6.00) that came drizzled in honey which was a different twist, yet very good. We were surprised to see a 3% Convenience Charge added to the bill, as we did not remember seeing any notice of that anywhere. (After returning home and looking at their website, we found a notice that said: "Due to high inflation, supply chain challenges and wage increases, we have chosen to implement a convenience fee of 3% on all purchases in-house and 5% on carry-out purchases.")All in all, we enjoyed our lunches; not sure we would ever come back.

Been here many times so this review is well informed ha. Truly excellent in every way. Seating and take out. The owners have created exceptional food in Phoenix/Jacksonville. The sandwiches, salads, and pizzas are simply excellent. Try the shrimp salad sandwich...huge fresh shrimp in a lighter than most mayo sauce. Filling. The true Italian sub as good as any at an Italian market. They also have wi es and beers to go. Good to know on a Sunday when you want to picnic on Loch Raven and forgot to buy beer or wine during the week. Since it's a restaurant..,you can buy on Sunday.

We have found this awesome place for mid breakfast (10 am) , lunch or dinner. Ordered cream of crab fries and have been ordering them every visit. They are hot fries with old bay and delicious cream of crab soup!! A must have. Loved the hot toasted Italian and spicy castellano subs! All food is good, service is pleasant and helpful and you enjoy a chilled comfortable atmosphere.

Food is fantastic. Cheesesteak with the fixings, cheese melting off. The bread was soft, but crisp. Shrimp salad was perfect - not heavy on the mayo and large shrimp. Go have a great meal at Brookside

Went to Brookside and ordered carryout. I got the True Italian and an order of fries. The sandwich was terrible. I asked for no hots and no mortadella. Got the mortadella I didn't want but they forgot a bunch of other stuff that the sandwich advertised and I wanted on it. It had no oil, no vinegar, no Parmesan spread, no provolone. It tasted bad and I ended up throwing it away after 2 bites. Fries were extra brown and soggy by the time I got in my car. They were edible but not good. I was super hungry and looking forward to my sandwich. Needless to say, I was very disappointed...and starving.

I live nearby so they are or should I say should be convenient, but not the case. I had bad experience last 3 times I called in. They either got orders incorrect, or food was improperly prepared. On last visit ordered specific dessert for wife and as I was leaving after paying realized dessert was not in bag. Gal that checked me out was going to let me leave without checking. When I informed her that I was missing dessert she responded that they were out of that dessert and I told her that she was letting me leave having paid for something I didn't get. OMG this broke her brain and after pondering for a good moment she offered what desserts they had which were not what wife or I wanted. I informed her her that I would like a refund for the missing item and she just melted and said she didn't know how to do that. Then the manager who had been hovering in the background swooped in and tried to make this MY PROBLEM for being inflexible. Suffice to say it took him 5+ mins to back out the charges and was terse dealing with me. On other occasions they seriously undercooked my pizzas and they were doughy messes. Bakers there have no idea how to bake pizzas and crusts properly.
