B.B.U. Kitchen Bowie

Similarly to South Pride Seafood, I was really looking forward to trying South Pride Seafood after hearing so many great things and being a fan of Soul Food, but unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The wings were a bit tough and not as tender as I'd hoped--definitely not the melt-in-your-mouth experience I was expecting. As for the mac & cheese, it just didn't have the creamy, flavorful richness that I associate with a good soul food dish.It felt like the "soul" was missing from this soul food. That said, I can see why others enjoy it--perhaps it was just an off day. I'm open to trying it again and hoping for a better experience, but for now, it's a bit of a letdown compared to other spots I've tried.

Very glad I found this place today. I wanted soul food for dinner but didn't feel like driving to my normal spot. I found this place in my neighborhood. The service was good and friendly. I ordered smothered fried chicken with dark gravy mac n cheese and yams. So the jury is out on if I will return. I was elated that a black owned restaurant is now in the neighborhood. However the Mac and cheese wasn't to my liking and that is ok. It was very close. Mashed potatoes too lumpy yams just ok gray way too salty chicken was burnt and chicken leg was still pink inside--not done. Every cook doesn't cook like my grandma and that's ok. I just don't know if this was a one time thing or the norm.

I've been hearing about this place, so I took a chance and ordered. I did order delivery, and I must say the food still arrived hot and fresh.I ordered smothered pork chops with yams and cabbage. The pork chops, although cooked and seasoned well, were absolutely not smothered. If you look at the pics, the gravy was very thin, and barely any on there. I am used to a thicker gravy and for them to be...SMOTHERED. So for that, i'd have to give the chops a 8/10. The yams were my favorite! 10/10 great texture, and sweet like i like. The cabbage wasn't too bad. A little on the blander side, but nothing some hot sauce didn't fix. 7/10. And lastly the mac&cheese....there are many different styles of mac and I wasn't mad at this one. If you're looking for creamy, with a cheese pull, this one isn't for you. But, it was still seasoned well and had a good taste to it. 7.5/10. B.B.U. is a welcomed addition to the area. I will def be back to try other menu items soon.

Second review-The fried chicken was wonderful. I also had the corn bread. I noticed it had cinnamon in it. Not sure if that is an authentic ingredient but it was good. The shrimp were a little salty.Everything else was good.

My issue is that if I am paying three additional dollars for all flats, I expect all flats, not three drums. So, that's my first issue. My issue is that I ordered online. And the online photo for mashed potatoes, the potatoes have gravy on them. So, after I noticed that my potatoes did not have gravy, I re-entered the store, explained that i based the decision to purchase the potatoes off of the picture, and just asked for a side. They gave me aside, but not before explaining that I didn't order the potatoes with gravy. Whatever. Not a big deal.Let's get into the food itself: MASHED POTATOES AND GRAVY: the star of the show actually ended up being the mashed potatoes and gravy. I'm not going to hold you, they are very good in a different kind of way. The combination really works, and I really think that they are the perfect combination of smooth and lumpy.Mac & Cheese: I try not to go too crazy when judging macaroni and cheese, because everybody makes it so differently. I don't think I would order this again, but it wasn't terrible. It just wasn't how I like it. It definitely tastes like it's made with Velveeta. For those who that matters to. Lol.Greens: I liked the greens, but I wish they had meat in them. They are definitely definitely on the more bitter side, but I like mine a little bit bitter.Honey cornbread: I think this cornbread made me like honey less. It just tasted like a piece of cornbread that had been heavily brushed with a honey glaze. It wasn't soggy, but it also wasn't memorable and wasn't very good.Wings: SIGHHHHHHHH. They were fine. I like the Mumbo sauce. Reminds me of this grocery store we used to get wings at in high school in Missouri. But they weren't well done or really crispy and again... not all flats. I'd come back just for the mashed potatoes and gravy, tho.

I visited here and ordered the chicken, fish and shrimp platter with mac and cheese. The meats were good and well seasoned. 3 whole wings, 3 pieces of catfish and 4 jumbo shrimp, excellent. The sides mac and cheese and potato salad were too desired. Lack seasonings and mac and cheese was dry. The other meal; wings with macaroni, cheese and greens, and mashed potato with gravy. The chicken was good but sides were just ok. The person who took our order was friendly and sold the items to purchase but the reality, the sides can use some help.

It's cool, it's a "fast" casual restaurant where you can call in/pickup, takeout or order and sit at one of their 2 seater tables. The portion size is good the shrimp and mashed potatoes were seasoned well, the catfish and mac n cheese were just ok.

What a pleasant surprise! Close by and hungry on a Sunday night I see this new spot that I was unaware of popup on my Doordash. Familiar with their other location clear across town, I ordered on faith from this new one. Mmm mmm good! The Salmon Sub is my new favorite. With a simple combination o salmon and seasoned peppers on a fluffy, buttery bun this sammich was hearty and super satisfying to eat. The french fries were the bomb too. I can't wait to check out the rest of the menu!

Online ordering was quick and intuitive. Our orders were ready in no time and the food was wonderfully southern!

So glad we finally have a real soul food spot in bowie. The wings were fried perfectly, and the greens were seasoned to perfection. I took off one star because the candied yams weren't the best. I'll definitely return to see what other goodies they have on the menu
