Alice's A Family Restaurant

Let me start off by saying this place is very much a neighborhood restaurant. You go in and it's no frills. I can say that we really wanted to enjoy this because it's so close to home. We had two visits here. The first was okay. Our server was fast and she gave us lovely mimosas and our meals came out very fast. It was satisfying and we went on our way. The second was terrible. We waited a bit for our table, then sat at a tiny table. It was silly as my fiancé is 6'4 and large. Then our server started off a bit unfriendly. My fiancé believes it's because we are an interracial couple but I think maybe she was a bit overwhelmed but she told me I needed to speak up when ordering but then began interrupting me. I had to repeat myself more than twice. Then she took a while to bring us our drinks.We waited a good nearly 30 minutes for food. We watched a table of three eat their food a good ten to fifteen minutes before us. Finally, our server noticed that our table was too small for the two of us so she moved us. Then another 10 minutes passed and our food came. The waffles. Hard as a rock. Didn't want to risk losing any teeth. Our meals were lukewarm at best. Needless to say, Alice's isn't for us.

Okay, so my wife was talking to her brother on the phone and I suggested that we get breakfast out. She asked him about good breakfast places and his immediate, without hesitation, answer was Alice's next to Martin State Airport. So 30 minutes later we were ordering breakfast at Alice's. Photos of our delicious choices are attached. We found it very easily from Perry Hall and we found it to be a quaint neighborhood place that DDD would love. The service and servers are awesome and tolerated my sense of humor. Scrapple is RAPPA, as served in fine establishments all around the bmore area. We enjoyed our experience so much that we've been there three days straight. We're considering trying Alice's for dinner soon. I gave Alice's 4 stars and hope be able to bump it up after our dinner visit.I highly recommend this restaurant.

Good food; service needs work. I've eaten here twice in the last three months. The food is good and I think the pricing is reasonable. Love the desert options, so many yummy choices and they come from Yia Yias. Some of the things we ordered were - cream of crab soup, meatloaf, steamed shrimp, crab quesadilla, cheeseburger, fried chicken and soft crab sandwich. Everything was good and everyone liked their meals. My only critique for the food was the cream of crab soup did not have very much crab at all, so I will skip it next time. I will go back again. I do think the service needs improvement. I had two different servers each visit and they seemed to struggle with covering their tables each time. (Restaurant was not full) it would take a while to get their attention for drink refills ,missing food items, condiments, or extra napkins etc. Each visit the meals were missing items ordered- it was fine since we weren't charged but it seems they need a bit better attention to detail. Also, the runner that brought out the food, stood at the end of the table (7top) and handed me all the plates for me to hand to everyone at our table. I don't mind helping out, but, the plates were hot and we had kids at the table that had to help pass the food out. Seems like a better approach would be to move around the table instead of having one guest hand out the food. He was a younger guy so maybe this is new to him and he just needs to learn. Happy to update my rating if the service is better next time around.

Remember when this was Crab Quarters? I miss that giant crab on the building. I wonder what happened to that thing...I quite liked the hardwood floors (why do restaurants ever install carpet? It gets so dingy), and how far the tables were spaced from each other. The fireplace below the HUUUUGE television is relaxing. And I bet it would be sweet to watch sports at this restaurant, if that's your thing. The boyfriend did not like the slightly crafty, slightly nautical decor but I feel like it fit with the whole "family restaurant" thing. I grew up in the area. My parents had a gigantic painting of a sea captain above our mantle when we were growing up. So the restaurant hit those nostalgia notes for me.The cream of crab soup is fine. Not as good as Richardson's, a million times better than By the Docks. My mom had a barbecue chicken and shrimp quesadilla and I don't think she liked it. It was cut into four pieces. She only ate one. She insisted that we take a piece home with the leftover half of my cheese steak sub (like Steak Ums, with maybe 15 strips of grilled onion and two pieces of American cheese melted on top. Would not recommend). Fries were good. Unseasoned, unsalted, but that makes sense. Some people are salt-free, and good for them - but I need my fries salted. The boyfriend had the Rodeo burger, which has onion rings, cheddar cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce. He liked it A LOT. But he hated the pickle. The popcorn shrimp were perfectly acceptable.Overall a fine experience, but we will not return. Nothing on the menu sang out "Next time you need to get...." like the Riverwatch. Alice, honey, you need to step up your game.

My only issue with the place is that their iced coffee is simply handing you a carafe of hot coffee and a glass of ice. I am a big coffee drinker, and require stronger coffee. Having to pour hot coffee over ice results in a very watered-down week cup of coffee... This made me very sad as everything else about my visit was excellent. If I can give the business one piece of advice it's to please please please get on the iced coffee bandwagon, especially on 90 plus degree summer days.I ordered the deluxe omelette, which was very good, and came with home fries and toast. My wife ordered a BLT quesadilla, which she enjoyed, and that's what counts. I did not like lettuce inside a quesadilla, but that's really kind of irrelevant isn't it.The people were very friendly, and the service was adequate. I'm sure I will be back, the next time I'm in the area, I just hope by then they up their iced coffee game, as 2 others in my party only drink cold coffee, and one of them lives in Middle River, near this place..... So it isn't just us out of towners......

Ridiculous that they think you can't tell a bowl of soup from a cup , they are the same size basically. I'm insulted and just leaves a bad taste in my mouth all together. Stupid of them to save a couple bucks. Wont be back,Really don't understand all the great reviews People must be starving or something

We really like this restaurant. Most of the people working there are very nice. On the other hand, the food is hit or miss; sometimes it is good and other times, not so good. The service is pretty much in the same category. It appeared from our visit today that many senior citizens go there often and are regulars, which is great, as I am a senior myself. On the other hand, they appeared to receive preferential treatment while the not-so-regulars had to wait. I am posted this not because I want to get anyone into trouble, but because many of my friends and acquaintances who have gone there have noticed the same thing. Today, a server told us three different times that she would be right with us. Not long later, a group of seniors arrived, she recognized them immediately, neglected us and took their order even though we arrived ten minutes earlier. You can do better Alice's.!

We ordered last night. The delivery time was great. The food was ample and everyone ate it all. The flounder delicious. The steak was butter tender. The picky eaters ate it all. There was good portions of everything. The selection was very good. The gravy hit a home run.I will eat from there again! Bravo Alice's!

Very disappointed. Went in on Sunday about 8am and the place was fairly busy but there were several empty tables. Lady at the counter asked for our names and said we were 1st on the list and it would be a couple of minutes. After about 1o minutes there were many people behind us and now there were nine empty tables and the lady behind the counter asked if anyone would like to sit at the bar while waiting for a table. Still 9 empty tables. People behind us left, then another couple left. After 15 minutes we left as did some other people. Total lack of management. I have been a loyal customer for over 5 years and now I don't know if I should avoid going there on weekends or just avoid going there all together.

Ok.. the good first.. stopped in between breakfast and lunch yesterday...waitress was good Food came out super fastI had the skipper quesadilla which I could only eat half of... loved itHubby had the eastern omelet loved it...Down side... Screeching kid in a relatively empty restaurant killed my ears...Second... I have told them multiple times that their hours are incorrect on YelpI guess they don't care if they are losing business?Their hours at this time are saying they are only open 2 hours everyday in the morning Closed the rest of the time... I usually check Yelp for hours and we only stopped here because we drove by it and there were cars in the lot!Please correct your hours!!!!
