Abner's Crab House

A great spot. Great prices. Nice patio too! Great weight on the crabs too! Seasoned and steamed perfectly every time. I've done both to go and dine in and it's two thumbs up from me every time. If you do dine in be patient. The staff gets a little overwhelmed sometimes but trust it's all worth it.

We knew what we were in for when we walked into the place at lunch time on a Friday and there was just one big table of gray-hairs finishing up. But, we didn't know the area, so we decided to stay.We started with a crab pretzel - great idea in concept, terrible in execution. The obviously once-frozen pretzel was tough and chewy, with I guess what was supposed to be crab dip on top, but was really just a cold, gloopy mess.The meal was slightly better - I had a crab cake sandwich served with fries. The crab cake was not very crabby, but still decent, and the fries were good. The server was slow but got the job done. Maybe they shine with fresh crabs, but the regular food was kind of a dud.

Had a great time here with my family and good drinks. I also got to play the slots machine which I enjoy.

I typically come here when I want a low key bar vibe. They have some decent options on tap. I've even had decent fried oysters here. Also, their steamed shrimp are amazing. Lastly, the cream of crab soup was decent, I'd just ask for a bit of old bay seasoning on the side to a bit. Bartenders are all friendly and on point with service.

I came to Abner's this evening thinking that I would enjoy some of the delicious crabs and was treated with disrespect and discrimination. I have been a customer for over a decade, driving an hour to and fro and I have never been treated like I was today. To make matters worse, I was told that the individual is the daughter in law of the owner. This lady spoke to me and my family as if we were trash. I am glad we have a video of the encounter.

Personal experience was unsatisfactory. Ordered a stuffed flounder. Upon food arrival, I asked the waitress what the flounder was stuffed with because there was no crabmeat on the plate at all. She was not able to see any on the plate either so I asked if we could just change the charge from stuffed flounder to regular flounder since there was no crabmeat. She couldn't do that, and called the floor manager. The manager said the crabmeat was on there, but the waitress and I couldn't see it, and then I was told that I ate it. They insisted that I ate it so despite my decorum and politeness in asking for some resolution, the floor manager couldn't look me in my eyes to talk to me so instead she called security. The restaurant manager was then called and again I was told that I ate the crabmeat and then talking over my plate she took my fork and used my fork to pick at the fillet of flounder. She then hastily took my plate and removed it from the bill and told me I couldn't order anything else. This was a blessing. The potato salad was tasteless and the beans were over seasoned. My daughter enjoyed her crab legs, the waitress was great, but management was poor. Of course, I would not recommend this place, unless you enjoy a school cafeteria-like environment with soulless people. Their inability to solve a problem was grotesque.

We visited Abners twice while vacationing Chesapeake Beach. The place would remind you of a cafeteria, not much ambiance. So you go here for the seafood, which very fresh. The portions are pretty large, the sweetened ice tea is great! We got an Ultimate Pot, which was yummy! Half dozen crabs, soft shell crabs, stuffed flounder, and snow crab meal. Bonnie, our first waitress, was so sweet! And Isa (or Lisa), our 2nd waitress, was very nice. All kind, thorough, and good check up timing.However, I want to mention, both times we went we saw and heard a woman, who appeared to be the Manager. Which was confirmed by a staff member. While she BARKED at every single employee, In front of customers - She Never asked any patron, how was their meal. How is that? She was overly concerned with what each person was doing, she was loud, sounded harsh, and was in the middle of the restaurant!! I guess her employees are used to her rude, management style.

Yo I don't even care about these other reviews. This place was awesome. Staff was LOVELY, beers were cold, seafood was fresh and delicious. We had steamed shrimp, grilled rockfish bites, and steamed clams. After a beer we decided we were still hungry and had wings and crab dip. Honestly all the food was awesome and the staff were hilarious so please pay them more!!!

I have always loved Abners. The crabs are always fresh, meaty and hot. The service is decent and you can get seating outside over looking the water. This place is a gem in Chesapeake and I go anytime I'm around!

The Crabs were awesome! our server was !!!! I'll be going back . Love how they remodeled the restaurant. Very nice
