My wife and I paid $3 each for a tour through this house, and it was cool. We did not have any definite ghost experiences, but a sliding door did close while we were in the room. The tour guide said it was because of the house being old and moving, but who knows. They do guided tours all year round, telling you the history of the family who lived here, but they ONLY do the ghost tour starting in October, the cooler (temperatured) months. Overall, it was an interesting experience. Beautiful house inside and out. It's definitely worth it!

Wow ! We loved this house !! First things first it's only $3 to get a detailed tour !! Heather was very kind and made us feel right at home , suggesting there paranormal events (that we will be attending ) and making sure we knew all the spooky points in the most appealing ways ! The house is all completely original and I'm so thankful everyone has worked so hard to keep it that way . Pearle would be so proud!

The tour of the Zalud house was a very informative and enjoyable experience. The curators are very knowledgeable about the lives of the Zalud family and all things paranormal. The house is furnished with the original possessions of the family which adds both to its authenticity and eerie vibe. You'll go room by room and learn about the lives and deaths of each of the family members. The tour is well worth the $3.00. The Zalud House was also recently featured on the show Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel.

The tour did seem genuinely authentic. My group & I didn't experience any paranormal activity but it was really neat to see all the old artifacts. The curators did seem to really care about the home & its history. They were very polite & funny & well informed. I'm glad I visited!

We happened upon this house on our way home from sequoia national park. The $3 tour fee was well worth the experience. The house itself is well preserved with the original furniture still in the house. The curators were very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the house and its former inhabitants. They were lively and an enjoyable and made us feel very welcome at the house. I would definitely visit again and bring along anyone wanting to hear about paranormal activity and get to walk through a well preserved time capsule.

Saturday, November 5, 2016 I attended a ghost hunt at the Zalud House. I found the curator and her husband to be condescending and rude. The price paid ($40 per person) was steep for what we received. It was advertised as authentic and I discovered stage blood and heard what sounded like recorded voices in one of the bedrooms. I would strongly not recommend going on one of these "ghost hunts" while the current leadership is there. You will NOT get what you pay for. As far as the Zalud House is concerned, it is a beautiful museum and a wonderful look into the history of Porterville. Just be forewarned about the people running the place.

A remarkably well-preserved home filled with the belongings of the original owners. Bohemian immigrant John Zalud built the four-bedroom, Mansard-style house in 1891. The last heir -- his daughter Pearle -- willed the home to the city in the 1970s. It's been very well taken care of since then, thanks to the dedication of a couple of exceptional caretakers. The home offers regular and "paranormal" tours to help defray costs. The regular tours are well worth it for anyone with an interest in the history of the area, the Gold Rush or fine homes. The paranormal tour is a bit goofy, but if you're into that sort of thing, it's worth keeping an open mind. The ghost of Pearle Zalud might just deign to grace you with her chilly presence.
