Adorable bed and breakfast at the Sequoias National Park with an organic orange farm. This is a wonderful getaway. The breakfast is amazing! This is one of my favorite places to stay away from home. Happy Yelping!

What a beautiful experience it was staying at Wicky-Up Ranch. Monica and Jack are the ultimate hosts- respectful of your time and privacy, but also more than accommodating if you need ideas for where to eat or what to do. And if you're interested in the history of the area, Monica (a fourth generation resident), is a fountain of knowledge... and one of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet.My wife and I were looking for a unique, relaxing get away, and Wicky-Up delivered just that... it was perfect: charming decor, delightful conversations with Monica and Jack, delicious fruit fresh from their farm... and Sweet Pea- an incredibly friendly pup who will literally lead you on a beautiful, relaxing walk through the almost endless rows of orange trees. We will never forget our stay at Wicky-Up, and I can't help but smile while writing this because Monica, Jack and Sweet Pea gave us such a wonderful weekend.

Well, I have been, and I am ready to go back! Monica and Jack of Wicky Up Ranch made our vacation to Sequoia the best trip we've ever taken. Wicky Up is everything I wanted it to be and more. I felt like I was visiting family! It was so comfortable that I found myself helping clean up after breakfast both days! Oh.. the breakfasts were scrumptious - broiled royal grapefruit (picked from the groves out back) with brown sugar, orange infused french toast with walnuts on top, poached pears, omlettes to order, fresh squeezed OJ from the organic orange groves, fresh coffee and yummy tea options. The breakfasts were so welcoming that one morning my boyfriend had all the ladies singing Spoonful of Sugar! It was like a scene in a movie!Monica gave us a tour of the home upon arrival. The living room is a mini-museum:"...welcome you to step back to the year 1902 as you enter this gracious, California Craftsman-type home built by Illinois State Senator Fred E. Harding."-- http://www.wickyup.com/My boyfriend and I stayed in the cottage with private entrance and outdoor shower. What a lovely experience, showering outside and watching the sunrise over the organic orange groves. The cottage was the perfect quaint retreat. Monica had put homemade cookies out upon our arrival. Of course, we ate them right away. Delicious. There was a CD player with The Best of Frank Sinatra in it. What a perfect album to listen to while celebrating our anniversary.Just being in small town, farmland, among good people.... it really was the perfect getaway. The ranch was all done up with new things to see at every turn. Jack's welded metal men and animals are so fun to discover. The perfect scene for me was their dog, Dancing Bear, with red handkerchief around the neck, on the porch every day. He would always come out to say hi to us when we arrived back from somewhere. The doves woke us up in the morning to the sounds of roosters' cock-a-doodle-dooing. It was awesome and hilarious. I got videos of it!Overall, Monica and Jack are very special people. I am lucky to have crossed paths with them. I look forward to the next visit with them and Bear and Wicky Up Ranch!

The Wicky Up Ranch was everything we hoped it was and more! Monica was very quick to answer any questions we had prior to arriving and was there to give us a tour of the place once we got there. She had a binder in the room with things to do, places to eat, and history about the ranch. Pictures don't do the ranch justice. You have to see it to appreciate the beauty of this place! It is nestled in the orange groves and beautiful hills just minutes away from the sequoias. The interior was very charming full of beautiful paintings and artifacts. There was an enclosed porch with lots of seating. Monica had a light delicious breakfast waiting for us every morning with oranges and orange juice from the groves. She also had a tea station and beverages in case you get parched. On our last day we took the walk that was recommended in the binder and boy was it breathtaking! We spent two nights there and hope to return in the future.

I posted a video and a recipe from this B&B here:http://foodandwinemavens.blogspot.com/2010/03/san-francisco-weekend-getaway-fresno.htmlHubby and I did the blossom trail and stopped here for the night. We reserved the suite upstairs and arrived after dinner around 8PM. The fireplace was lit downstairs, complimentary water bottles and chocolate-orange cookies were waiting for us in the room as well as Ferrero Rocher chocolates. Monica was there to let us in, show us around, and even advise us regarding our morning trip. There were plenty of things to do for a quiet evening. Trivial pursuit, scrabble, backgammon, cards, plenty of VHS tapes and VCR in our room (mostly Hepburn-era and WWII movies), a huge selection of excellent books (including many vintage books). If you reserve the suite, you basically have the run of the upstairs. The bathroom is down the hall from the room but it's all yours. There is a bonus room up there for children, just next to the bathroom, that is super adorable with a huge dollhouse to play with. There's a cozy reading nook and table up there as well, in case you don't want to fraternize with others downstairs. The bed is soft and felt like it would swallow me up but we slept solidly. Robes were provided. Monica is very friendly and easygoing. She served us breakfast and chatted with us while we were dining. In the past, we've experienced hosts that are overbearing, overly friendly, and too inquisitive as well as the other extreme of completely apathetic. Luckily, Monica was a pleasure to talk with. The breakfast was excellent. It was the best omelet I've ever had- not over-fried, very thin and delicate. There was also fresh squeezed OJ, mineral water, tea/coffee, broiled grapefruit, and a blueberry muffin. We were full until dinner. After breakfast, we walked the grounds from the house through organic orange orchards to a big red barn with a beautiful panaromic view of the area. Make sure to take your camera on this walk. The house is in a very convenient location. We drove about 20 minutes from the house along Dry Creek Rd, which has a beautiful view and plenty of wildflowers (this was March 14th). We decided to continue for another 40 minutes to King's Canyon and Grant Grove in Sequoia National Park. Gorgeous views! We then drove back on 180 through Fresno to get home to SF and while in Fresno, enjoyed Don Pepe's Taqueria.

LOVE Wicky Up Ranch B&B! We stayed in the cottage out back with the outdoor shower. The room is very small. When they show a picture of the room, that is all there is to it! It's perfect if you're just going to sleep there. If you want to hang out at the ranch during the day, I recommend staying in a room inside the house. The outdoor shower was nice and clean. I like how the cottage had their own private outdoor seating area. The food was outstanding and Monica and Jack were excellent hosts!

I stayed here in late June of 2012 for four nights. The owners, Monica and Jack, were super friendly, helpful, and responsive. They pride themselves in taking good care of their guests. Breakfast was always awesome. We stayed in the cottage and were well taken care of. We spent our days in the park and since Monica and Jack have lived on the property for years they were very knowledgeable about the area. I would definitely stay there again.
