Verdugo Oaks Camp

The campsite is simply beautiful. It's rustic so the bathrooms are a little weak and prone to clog. There's plenty of live oak trees. There's plenty of space to camp. The kitchen is really nice and complete. We had a great time here. Everyone was so nice. I will definitely be back.

The camp is local to us and is you're basic scout camp nothing fancy but clean and a great spot for you're unit contact the camp or the Verdugo Council for rates The camp has a full kitchen a pool and tents We normally bring our own Five to Templin Highway and continue North until you see the Ranger station sign.

What a beautiful location! Great place to get away from the city and just exist with nature. I saw Orion's Belt so clear and close I tried to reach out and touch it! The camping is rustic but the bathrooms are clean, the outdoor fireplace is a wonderful location for a "fireside" event. Overall a great Scouting adventure!

I love this place... It's close by for an easy drive . But you feel like your hundreds of miles away from the city life... The pool is very clean and appealing. The camp site is so peaceful.

What a great place to get away without the mileage. Located approximately 15-20 minutes from Magic Mountain, it is a breath of fresh air into the wilderness. Verdugo Oaks is a BSA campground regulated by the Verdugo Hills council and is an awesome place for scouts or organized groups. This was my first year sending my kids to day camp and they absolutely loved it. The grounds are wide enough to set up games like archery, BB guns, field sports and relay races to name a few without walking too far in between. Plenty of shade from the trees and cool breeze even in the middle of the summer due to the elevation. The pool is newly renovated and is extremely large and accommodating. Changing rooms available and outside shower rinse within the pool gates. There is a mess hall with a complete kitchen that can be used for indoor craft making or presentations. Ceiling fans are installed for added circulation. The central meeting area has a flag pole and platform for staging purposes.Since the camp is nestled up in the Angeles National Forest, don't be surprised if you come across any rattle snakes, mountain lions or even black bears. We ARE just visitors in their natural habitat so take caution if trekking up the mountain. There is a local Fire Dept. Station right before the entrance gates to the camp site. There is also a first aid bunker equipped with medical supplies, 2 beds, bathroom and refrigerator. Several military style tents already available to set up camp. Those who prefer to bring their own tents can do so as well. All in all Verdugo Oaks is a great facility. It is clean and well maintained. Parking can accommodate RV's and terrain is friendly to small cars. It can get muddy so park lower than higher up the side of the hills. Till next time Verdugo Oaks...Two!.

Located just south of Pyramid Lake ((off the same exit from the I-5 as P-Lake)), Verdugo Oaks Camp is a splendid option for cooped-up city folks looking to escape to nature without driving three hours out of the city. There isn't much separation between the campsites, which keeps this place from getting the fifth star. I can't stand campgrounds that overlap, and in the center campsites, you certainly get overlap. Tiny, locked, garbage bins provide convenient waste disposal; meaning you don't really have to "pack out" any garbage. :) Thank you, Parks & Rec for spending my tax dollars wisely. Verdugo Suckfest = tall grasses, which have those irritating seeds that get stuck in your socks indefinitely and mercilessly poke your feet. Just surrender your feet and calves to the inevitable irritation. No biggie.The campsite is next to a Boy Scout retreat camp and the Verdugo Oaks Fire Station. This means there is "potable" water you can retrieve at the Boy Scout camp. There's one spigot that I've found with a drinking fountain attached.I've never seen this place overflowing, so it offers a nice retreat form the madness of the city, and it's only about an hour (hour and a half, at most) from West LA. And when your camping trip is over and you're fiending for REAL food, there is an In-N-Out of the I-5, in Valencia. **IMPORTANT: You will need a California State Adventure Pass to camp here. They're $30 for an annual pass (good for 12 months, not just 'til the end of the issued year) and available at most camping supply stores, like REI, Adventure 16, and maybe Sport Chalet. With this pass, you can camp at Verdugo Oaks for up to 14 days, consecutively. The pass is good at a number of State Parks and campsites all over California. Without one, you're outta luck.**Verdugo is my new go-to spot, for a quick escape from the city (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fD0Gk8qqdb8CGw_Uzum00A?select=z0YjFo-Ux65VkWIJRkL0bw#LM1DjNtlgudPWQrNfzvxDw). A great place to relax, and reset your mind. Give it a shot, but remember to take good care of the grounds. Respect, man.... Respect.

Since the other two reviewers are talking about oak flat campground, I'll talk about Camp Verdugo Oaks which is a Boy Scout camp run by the verdugo hills council out of Glendale. This camp is located just above oak flat campgrounds which probably lends to the aforementioned confusion. It is a reservation only camp for organized groups (Boy Scout troops, church groups etc. etc.). It has six campsites for pitching tents. Six bathrooms with hot water shower stalls located around the grounds. There is also a handicap cabin with its own bathroom and showers. There is a pool big enough to accommodate 75 people. A main lodge for dining and meetings with a full commercial kitchen attached. The lodge has a huge indoor wood fireplace as well as one on the outside of the lodge. There are two tent cities already setup year round that have two cots in each tent. As well as several bunkhouses around camp, one for six campers, and one for 14 campers. There is a camp trading post you could have open to buy drinks and ice cream and candy if you have a sweet tooth. The camp is also located at the head of a national forest trail that runs 1 1/4 mile up to the top of the canyon wall. The camp can handle up to 250 people easy with plenty of parking.

Went there for a scout camping trip..My son had a good time but the bathrooms were gross..the porta potty's were cleaner.. and we couldn't use the showers either..By the end of the weekend by stomach hurt couldn't wait to come home and use my restroom..

My scout and I are going there and they said it's over a 100 degrees over there and they go there every year it is so fun
