Valley Children's Ice Center of Bakersfield

The only ice rink that I've known you can walk completely around the rink. Typically 1/4 is closed off due to space or safety because of the Zam entrance. Great for Moms needing more video; lol. Moms is me.Love the decor! Bummer we lost. Ha!

Yes, we have an ice rink in Bakersfield!!! Who would have thought, right?!?! I always get a shocked reaction from people when I tell them we have an ice rink in town... not so sure why many locals aren't aware we have one... But even our family and friends from out of town are surprised! This ice rink, now renamed San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) Ice Sports Center of Bakersfield, was built for the Bakersfield Condors to practice. That's why sessions may be cancelled at anytime when the Condors are in town and need to use the rink. They have public sessions for anyone to come in and skate. Admission fees and skate rental are no more than $10 per person. If you have your own skates, you may bring them and use them and pay only the admission fee. No need to pay anything if you are not skating (except during special events like their Christmas/Holiday events). I think this is a great place to take the kids and have some fun family time!The rink also offers skating lessons from beginners to advance skaters... Private and group sessions available. They also have an in-house hockey league. And you may rent the rink for parties! Company parties, birthday parties or any event you wish to use the rink for! We've hosted a few parties here for the kids' birthdays and have seen companies and organizations rent the facility for their own private events. Once in a while the rink hosts concerts. We've never been to one but have seen them prep the place for one.We like going here especially during our triple digit days in the summer! This place is cold year-round! Never hot! Our daughter is a figure skater and we frequent this rink like it's our second home. Only thing I wish they have is more ice time for the figure skaters in town! But I understand, this is a rink that caters more for the hockey players... But it would be nice if we can get more ice time for everyone who likes to use the facility! Other than that, I am glad we have an ice rink in Bakersfield!!!

I celebrated my birthday here on January 1st of this this year. The schedule for public skating is posted online about a week in advance. I called two weeks early to check the public skate times for January 1st and was told the there would be a public skate session from 7pm-9pm. When the official schedule was posted, the time posted indicated a 6pm-8pm public skate time. I called the ice rink coordinator, Scott, and he worked with me and my group to ensure we could skate during the initial expected time. He and his staff were wonderful and everything went smoothly the day of. The only complaint I have is that the ice became VERY rough to skate on. We arrived at 7pm and the rink had been open for an hour by this time. It was already rough by then and only got worse over the next two hours. I don't know how often the zamboni is usually run; but it seemed to desperately need it after the first hour. Otherwise, I highly recommend this ice rink for public skating.

Wonderful place and a great staff. Our family is on the ice 2-3 times a week and have ONLY amazing experiences. We enjoy all the programs free skate, stick time, and hockey practices.

Their public sessions need some improvement. They always play old music, and when asked to change it they said "no that is what they are playing". Who are they? The sound system is low quality. There are some very nice employees here, but there are some who are plain rude. It is hard to know what kind of experience you will get when you visit.

Came here with a group of friends for the afternoon skating session. The staff was helpful. We had a good time. My only complaints are: the lockers were in bad shape. I had to get an employee to help me. Also, some of the skates are in dyer need of being replaced. The skates I got defiantly needed to be replaced. The laces were falling apart, and I was afraid they would snap off as I skated.

Nice place for kids I wish they had better hours for free skate the staff is so sweet and always informing the public of updates

the absolute coldest rink I have ever been in!!!! My son(Mite) plays travel hockey and we were here for his cluster of games. I love this building, east to navigate, ice is good, parking is fine....Didn't see much staff, but at 7:30am you just need someone to cut the ice.

Staff is extremely rude! I walk in to set up for my daughters birthday party . Immediately was stared at by the big girl behind the desk as if I was a nuisance. No one said "hi welcome what can I help you with" , " no , "hi how are you " instead She tells the young man that I needed to fill out paper work and continued to stare at me with an attitude. She walks me back to the bday room , turns on the lights , basically pushes the seal for the kids in the door and starts to walk out . I said " excuse me so what do I do from here . She said , "you get skates and skate , rolls her eyes and exits " . Since it was my daughter's birthday I didn't want to get my blood pressure sky high so , I just said ok thank you . Then I wanted to know when the pizza was going to come since we were waiting for it for over an hour and we paid 350$ for the room for an hour . She said sorry we have nothing to do with that . She said you probably should be asking the snack bar not her. So me and my husband went over to the snack bar. Staff is extremely rude , no customer service what so ever . The young man when I was trying to get skates was even looking at me and staring at me , not saying a word to me. It took the older gentleman to say hi to me so I can rent some skates . The kids working there need lessons in customer service . Here is a tip ... Leave the entitled attitude at the door, get off your phones, and take off the sunglasses ... Your in a building , UV rays aren't going to harm you . Flirt with guys outside of the work place. Be professional and enthusiastic coming to your job . If you don't like your job then go find another . I would not recommend this place at all. They are the only ice rink in town , and as of now can get away with it. Over priced
