What a fun experience! Our dept went here for our latest team building activity. Our dinner menu was centered around grapes from Cattani Family Farms. Our instructor was pretty awesome and made everyone feel at ease. We went over some basic knife cutting skills, making a grape and red wine reduction sauce, and searing proteins on the pan. While you don't necessarily cook the all the dishes in its entirety, you feel good about the finished product because the food was tasty. We were served four courses based on a seasonal menu. People can make reservations online for a sit down dinner. Whether you're a novice or a pro in the kitchen, this is a fun activity with friends or family.

What didn't go well?!??Y'all, it was so freakin fantastic. We did the 6:00 seating and arrived at 5:50. They let us in (we were first) and sat us. You have potential at some point to share a table with others, especially if you are a 2 or 3 top party. Got waters right away. The menu (which we knew in advance during purchase) was our place setting. Food started coming out and was timed perfectly throughout the courses... took about an hour total for two of us - we did not do wine, although it looked amazing and I'm sure would pair perfectly with this food (both currently sober). I didn't get a picture of the first dish because I just wanted to enjoy everything but I loved it so much, I knew I would be doing a review. The first course had two types of mozzarella, prosciutto, pickled nectarine and a honey drizzle. Soooooooooo good. Probably our fav if we are totally honest. Second course was a salad with a grilled apricot, candied walnuts, and an oil based dressing. The peach really gave the flavor and made it a juicier like dressing. Make perfect bites with all ingredients. We both chose the duck which came on a bed of quinoa that I think had tarragon in it??? And a glaze with peaches. Again, ate a little of each with each bite and Suuuh good. I made the chef's kiss motion twice. Finally, for dessert a peach Melba.... Which is a peach that was torched to make a sugar crust, serve on vanilla bean ice cream with I think a strawberry type purée sauce with crumbs in it. *droooool** The ambiance was also wonderful. Perfectly lit, and the music was subtle and relaxing. I cannot say enough, how much we loved this!

Something different to do in Bakersfield. Cooking class... sign us up. If your interested make reservations... limited space. Love that they send reminders to your phone/ email so you don't forget. The staff is very friendly, Chef Richard is very knowledgeable. Love that you can ask him anything , and he answers your questions. Not like Gordon Ramsay on "Hells Kitchen" at all. This is a great event for a date nite, hangout with girlfriends , or something adventurous. Fun and interactive. I loved learning new skills ; for example how to hold a knife properly , cracking eggs and etc. ; all little tips most of us don't really think about, when we're in the Kitchen. The food tasted great, good presentation. Excellent socializing event. So fun and cool to mingle with strangers in Bako. Start off as strangers and leave as friends. My only tip would be to make the audience do more of the cooking .

Wow... We had such an amazing time at our Hands On cooking class Friday night. The food was delicious, we met some great people, and Chef Richard and his staff were super fun. We laughed a lot and ate a lot, and I learned some techniques I can keep using at home, along with new recipes. What could be better? This was one of the best local experiences I've had. If you get a chance, go!

A group of us booked a special dinner party at The Kitchen. None of us had ever been there, so this was something new for all!We walked in and smelled a delicious aroma....something was already cooking! Richard and Kim greeted us as we walked in. The place was very cozy. It had all the kitchen equipment that we would be using to prepare our dinner but it also had a table set up for our food prep with little aprons waiting for us. There was a separate table set up for us to eat our dinner after we were all done.We had ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizers, so those came shortly after we opened our first bottle of wine and before we got started cooking (this is what was cooking when we first arrived). They were delicious! We just chatted with each other until Richard asked us to find a spot at the food prep area where we would get started. Richard walked us through everything! He showed us the correct way to hold the knife (I did not know there was such a thing), how to cut vegetables correctly, how and where to cut meat so it would taste better and so much more!! He was very friendly and knowledgeable! We all participated in some of the food prep together and there were other things that only a couple of us participated in. We had the choice to get really involved or not. Even for those who are very inexperienced in the kitchen, it was fun and educational!! I learned a lot...and I really don't like to cook. When it was time to sit down and eat, Kim and Richard brought the food that WE ALL cooked to us on individually plated plates. They put their own little flair to the plates, which made them look fancy schmancy!! I didn't know I could cook something that looked so beautiful!! Thanks Richard and Kim!We finally got to eat our creations...OMG!! Everything was delicious!! I can't believe I can actually cook good food!! :) We enjoyed chatting and eating our delicious food that WE cooked! Richard and Kim came around and checked on us to make sure we all were doing okay as we were eating. They also joined in on some of our conversation, which was very nice! Richard is super funny and I just love his laugh! My husband said he wants to hang out with him more...he said he is very interesting!I would strongly recommend this place to anyone that wants to enjoy a nice night out with friends and learn some new things. I can't wait until our next visit!

I went to The Kitchen for a fundraiser and I got there pretty late, so most of the appetizers were gone. But what I can say is they did have ONE appetizer left that consisted of some cream cheese mixture on top of an endive lettuce leaf. It was SO delicious! The place was very nice and I'd love to take a cooking class there one day! Bakersfield locals (or even visitors) should definitely check this place out!

After emailing and texting with Darci to finalize everything the night finally arrived and Darci and her staff were absolutely amazing! The food was absolutely delicious and it was a lot of fun cooking it ourselves! This type of event is so much fun because you're not just sitting at a table waiting for your meal but we all participated and helped cook every part of the meal from appetizers to the main meal, even including the dessert!! The staff served us really well, you'd never know we were only their third party at this location! Every part of the event was a lot of fun! I highly recommend The Kitchen to anyone wanting to have some sort of get-together, girls night, date night, even kids events that is out of the ordinary and a lot of fun! We want The Kitchen to succeed and stay so please book an event here!! Check out their website for more information! TheKitchenBakersfield.com Yay!!
