The Gaslight Melodrama Theater and Music Hall

We went to see my coworker perform and this place was great. They have regulars here, with season tickets and the couple we sat with were so nice. They do sell food there. More concessions like nachos, candy, and drinks. If you can catch a show, do go. They are interactive and impromptu. I was laughing so much. So if you need a laugh and there isn't a good new movie out in theaters, come visit!

Went to tonight's opening show, live from Bakersfield. I have to say, I've been to many shows there but tonight's was one of or maybe the best I e seen. Very will written! Cast was awesome as usual. If you are looking for something local and fun to do, this is a great choice!!

Gaslight in Melodrama is a delightful venue with top-notch staff who surprise you by singing when tipped. Absolutely charming and unforgettable. Highly recommended!

If you come to this theater, you must abide by the "Rules for Melodrama Participation":1. Stuffed shirts, sourpusses, fuddy duddies, and party poopers are not allowed. Save that for a Wagnerian opera somewhere else. Oh no...rrrrrats...foiled again!2. Bring your best, exuberant, "outside" voice, and be prepared to use it. 3. If you must, practice in front of a mirror: Villains and villainesses need a healthy dose of "Booooooo", "Hisssssssssss". Good guys and sweethearts get "Awwwww" and "Yayyyyyy!" . 4. Bellows and guffaws...are mandatory. They should be loud, obnoxious. Practice this until you can react spontaneously and uninhibited, yet somehow sincere. That will not be hard.5. Make sure you tip the piano player. They make him work in the dark, but he's a fine fellow too!This is Bakersfield's best. A little theater mentality with local references, an abundance of slapstick generously slathered with unbridled enthusiasm and gaiety, guaranteed to bring you a most hilarious 2 1/2 hours of good times. What a Treasure! So fun! I highly recommend the Children's Theater program. Our Grandchildren have participated the past two summers. It takes a team and this is one of the best! The kids have learned so much and their confidence has greatly increased.We also attend The Ron Saylor Magic shows monthly.We recently attended a performance of Milligan'sIsland. Go see it!

The Gaslight Melodrama sure is a fun place to enjoy a meal and a fun show. The meal is pretty basic bar food, but tasty. Not too expensive. There are beers and wines available. The best fun, though, is the live plays that take well-known productions, like the Beverly Hillbillies, and put a Bakersfield twist on them. It is both hilarious and endearing. The actors are very good, and seem to love what they are doing. They are also very engaging with the audience with plenty of jokes and adlibs. It's all in good fun, and I do mean fun. I admit I was not expecting to like this place or experience and was very pleasantly surprised. I'll be back many times if possible. It was just such a great time and I left feeling like I had received my money's worth and more.

My girlfriend and I just left the show and we absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was amazing and all the actors/actresses did so well. Cannot wait to go back again!!

Always entertaining in general and the musical numbers are always good!Reasonable prices and good selection of junk food.

Last Night, 1/26 - opening night of "Rustlers in Rio Bravo" was one of their best! All of the Prince family were performing. Just delightful, and great audience participation (lots of laughs). As a long time customer of the Melodrama, we would give this program 10 stars at least.Don't miss this one...ever! Ray & Joan, Bakersfield, CA

Another great night at the Melodrama. A great family venue in Bakersfield. Would recommend this place as a great place for a Saturday night with family.
