SVJJ has been a second home for both of my daughters for many years. My oldest started at the age of six and still trains today (9 years of training as of Oct 2022). My youngest trained for over 5 years. The coaches challenge the kids and encourage them daily. They get to teach, apply, and grow during rolling where they work with belts below their rank, at their rank, and ranks above them. The gym is the cleanest of any I've ever seen. Kids are given clear expectations on behavior, attendance, and grades in school and expectations for behavior at home. This school and training have helped My 14-year-old daughter in life and school as well. This gave her mental toughness and the ability to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations (self defense). It's also made her into more of a competitor. She is starting on a local high school team as a freshman in volleyball. Jiu Jitsu lessons transcend all sports and through life. I highly encourage any family (any kid or adult) to try it out. Size means very little in this sport. You'll know quickly if you like like it it love it like our family. One last point, Jiu Jitsu is a family that takes care of each other and is welcoming to fellow practitioners. We've cross trained in many gyms all over the country while on family vacations. Other schools welcome you to drop in. No other sport or club does that. It's good for the mind, body, and spirit.

Great place to take your kids to learn self respect,Self defense,Manners, and respect for others. My son has been going for 5 years now and loves it and has made life long friends. I recently started taking the adults class and although I don't go as much I should or want to whenever I do I love every minute of it.

Pros:1. The facility is immaculate. They go out of the way to keep the facility clean and it shows. 2. I did my homework on other Jiu Jitsu schools in the area and based off of the other 2 schools I went to, it seems that this is the only facility that tries to base their curriculum off of the Gracie's. They have a separate class for beginners during the week so that you are not learning advance techniques with other pros. 3. The facility is roomy and it's in a quiet part of town. 4. They offer a free trial for a limited of time to try out the school to see if it's for you.Cons: 1. It's expensive and there's a contract of at least a year2. The "beginner's course" was only one or twice a week and it was only 45 minutes long. Furthermore, when I did the free trial, they started late. Sometimes up to 15 minutes late which meant that I only got 30 minutes of learning time which included the stretching, warming up and instruction. 3. I didn't get that "warm, welcoming" vibe on behalf of some of the instructors and other students. To be fair, that may be my experience and not yours.4. The instructor was so polite over the phone and offered the class for $100/month with no mention of contract, when I came in to see him in person he bumped up the price to about $120-130 with a 12 month contract. However, I after mentioning what we spoke about over the phone, he dropped it down to $110.5. I noticed that the instructor wasn't very patient with me when I wasn't picking up on some of the moves. Mind you, this was my very first day. He didn't flip out or anything but I can tell he was annoyed. Furthermore, after the class, he was engaging in some braggadocios rhetoric on how this person and that person could kick my butt because they have a so and so belt in Jiu Jitsu. He wasn't being mean or rude about it, but the dialogue seemed a bit low class. I hate to be the one to give a bad review. I really wanted to like this facility. Aesthetically, I was impressed with their school and I was impressed in their attempt to duplicate the Gracie's model. Furthermore, I was so hyped to learn Jiu Jitsu. I didn't mind pay a bit extra to learn, but my experience was so abysmal I didn't even finished my free trial..

Not just a great place to learn about Jiu Jitsu but about growing into a great adult. The reason we like South Valley are the coaches and the emphasis on the kids. We've been to other places and the learning and programs don't come close.

I'm 43 years old and do you want to know what I like about this place? They drive me to be a better human. The instructors, the other students and the combination thereof. This includes both on the mat and off. Once they begin to call you "brother" they will hold you to that higher standard and I like that. The instruction is "pretty simple-pretty easy"...100% of the Black Belts that I've encountered are open to rolling with lower belts no problem. You want to Flow Roll? Just say so, you want to grind? Just say so...the overt attitude from everyone here is "we only get better together". If you want to challenge yourself to get better in life, step up and do it. I only wish I had started 20 years ago. The JiuJitsu itself, the health benefits that come from the intense nature of JiuJitsu, and a new brand of self confidence that goes into my self reliance portfolio are becoming secondary to me. It's being held to a higher standard by high caliber people that sets this scene for me. If you're on the fence (couch) about it...COME GET SOME!
