Smitty's Smokin Brisket & BBQ

Well, I've eaten here a couple times now and both times was impressed with my food. Fun little restaurant, north of the river in a clean little strip mall across from the Fire Station in Oildale. Inside was super clean and the service is maybe one of the BEST in town! Thanks for being so nice to your customers...Ok back to food...I've tasted ribs, pastrami, brisket and a few other random items and I will say, for Bakersfield it ranks REALLY high on my list. BBQ is Bako is kind of lame and for most, has the corporate standard reheated taste, but Smitty's is a level above the rest. Every meat tasted fresh cooked and succulent! The Brisket and Pastrami both stand above the rest in town! All the sides I had were pretty amazing as well! Don't forget to try this little hidden gem in Bakersfield's backyard...Thanks again for such perfect amazing service!

Was craving BBq and this place hit the spot !! - great service - great food - good value The pastrami was delicious (they cook it for several days) Brisket was amazing- melts in your mouth ! I highly recommend!

Yet again, Donna and Smitty make great food! The smoked meatloaf special on Friday is soooo good! Big portions and great taste! Always a pleaser!

My favorite bbq place. As a celiac, I feel safe eating here as they have many gluten free options. Owner is very friendly, service is quick.

I came for the pastrami and I liked it. Be clear - it's not the drive-in pastrami they fry up on the flat top nor does it resemble deli cold cuts. This is rubbed and smoked brisket, sliced and put on rye bread, more similar to BBQ. It's also a small portion....and I applaud that. I don't get the delis that make 3 inch high /pound of pastrami sandwiches. It's not steamed like some of the delis but served ambient temperature. Actually it reminded me of the one time I had Montreal smoked meat - pastrami's Canadian cousin. Sides - the cole slaw was good, the mac and cheese fair. One person working the front, one in the back , they were busy and I'd say it took 15 minutes. Also - all items are plated and brought to the tables, not scoop and go cafeteria style. They have non BBQ items on the menu so think of it as a diner that also has bbq, rather than a dedicated BBQ place. I will return!

The first time in, I was blown away with how great the pastrami sandwich was. Very tender and flavorful. The sides are pretty bland. I ordered mac and cheese and fries. Went back a couple of weeks later, ordered the pastrami sandwich, and it. The pastrami was not tender, and I felt like I was literally trying to eat some of the toughest beef jerky. Due to the inconsistency, I will not return.

Food was seriously just gross. I work at a local bbq restaurant so I know good bbq and this just is not it. Green beans came from a can also which blows my mind. Zero flavor and cold. Waste of $50. I called to complain and whoever I spoke to was very rude.

Great BBQ and the no sugar desserts are a must. The service is great and the owners are very friendly. The meatloaf special sells out as well as the brisket so call in early to reserve your meal. We literally drive a hour round trip to get our Smitty's fix.
