The Best Hummus in the AV. Saving Land Produce is one of those store fronts that is hidden in plain sight. Joined with AV Kabob House they both seemed invisible to me for many years, but this last few months I cant help but stop in regularly. I was told by a friend of mine that they made great hummus and have sense informed said friend of their massive understatement. The hummus starts with dry chickpeas that they cook themselves. They scoop them into an odd looking blender with the rest of the ingredients (all of which are also available at the store) and puree the treats into a velvety, light colored spread that I can't help but purchase whenever I run out. The price must be high right? Wrong. I pay around $5 for 1.5 lbs of the delicious dip. You can pay almost three times that at the big supermarket chains for the same amount and it wont be nearly as impressive. There are a few things I don't get here, the onions are one item I would skip, but alot of the produce is worth picking up. they also have teas, pastries, nuts, grains and pastas, breads, dairy products, (oh...Check out the small deli case for their different feta cheeses, and yes of course their olives), and loads of other stuff around the small but will packed store.Notes:-Go around 11:30 am or 4 pm this is when they are usually making a fresh batch of hummus.-Kabob place is part of the market but you will have to walk out of the store and go next door to enjoy.-Staff will let you try the items in the deli case. -Seriously get the hummus!
