Restaurant Chilate

Food was okay. Very unimaginative and plain. Service was non-existent but for bringing food to the table. Ambiance? Meh. Sugar was served with coffee. Powdered creamer served. No Splenda nor artificial sweetener. Communications: not good. Menu on wall is hard to read, almost impossible. No printed menu observed.On the positive, the tortillas were hot. But I didn't knowingly order any. The hot sauces, both red (hot) and green (mild) were served in plastic containers where there was no brand, so I didn't know what kind of sauce it was. No name tags on any of the employees.

While working in Lamont sporadically, I realized today that I have not eaten any local mexican food and honestly, that is a cryin shame. Decided to fix that today and pulled into the small unassuming parking lot of Restaurant Chilate right off of Highway 184 in Lamont. Next to the Frosty King with a big red food truck outside. The ambiance feels just as unassuming as the parking lot outside - a hole-in-the-wall type place that feels like someone's actual dining room. A little stuffy dining room. If I were able to speak any understandable Spanish placing the order might have been just a little more smooth, but in the end our communications were successful and my table ordered birria tacos, an el pastor torta, and 4 pastor tacos. The salsa is served up in condiment bottles: red one is of course red sauce. It was VERY tasty but also very espicy so sensitive tastebuds might want to take caution. The next bottle is green sauce which was so delicious I almost made a soup out of my tacos. The birria was amazing. Total perfection and piled thick onto the tortillas which tasted homemade. The pastor was tasty and delicious as well, but the birria took the gold star of the day. I had 2 of them and felt full. No soda machines, but a cooler to the right holds cold water and coca cola. After lunch, we stepped outside to sit at the patio tables for a moment. They were as dusty as an old wagon wheel and could have used a wet rag and cleaner. In their defense, it cant be easy keeping those tables clean being across the street from an orchard and on the side of an actual highway. Concerning the grub, I would most def visit again. The food was legit and authentic. Nice first experience for my tastebuds and I want more of that birria. Mmmm.

Best food ever! The service is amazing too, everyone is so kind and friendly. The restaurant used to be a subway and has nice seats and tables. Outside seating is great too. Alway recommend this place to everyone and bring people all the time. Everyone always loves it too. Highly recommend!

I am on a diet, but when a co-worker suggested we go to this restaurant close to where we work - one that I had not been to yet, I jumped at this opportunity. She described it as a small hole in the wall that has incredible, delicious authentic Mexican food. Very true!It smelled wonderful when we walked in - yes, it was small place with a nice patio to sit. The people who worked there were terribly friendly. We were given free samples of aqua Fresca to try - and they were delicious. I couldn't follow exactly what the owner said was in them (my Spanish is terrible)- but the first had pineapple and cucumbers I believe and it was so refreshing and wonderful. The second tasted as if it had chocolate in it, but when my friend clarified with the owner - no, there wasn't chocolate in it. It reminded me of Mexican hot chocolate - only served cold. It was so good. My friend got the Horchata, which she always gets.I couldn't decide between the grilled fish and shrimp plate or the steak ranchero, so the very accommodating owner said he would make me a "plate" (singular) with both! How nice! I love it when I can get food the way I like it! In the end, I was served two big separate plates of delicious food !- The fish which I believe was tilapia - was perfectly grilled, lightly breaded. I asked for a salad, to go with it (passing on the beans and rice), and I was surprised when the salad came with a lot of sliced avocado. Then he brought out a whole plate of the Steak Ranchero. It was sooo spicy (even for me), but I couldn't stop eating it! I was on a diet, like I said, but who could resist fresh tortillas!My friend got the quesadilla, which is her favorite. It was huge... and she was very happy with it. She's a tiny thing, but she ate all of hers. The owner came by a handful of times to check on us. Did I need a box to take my food home? He assumed I guess that I would not be eating all that food. "OH NO!" I told him, "I'm eating all of it!"Our intention was to give the sweet faced dog who was hanging out, a bit of our lunch, but we ate everything except a few tortillas. I tried to get a little bit of the juice from my plates to flavor the tortilla and offered it to her. She said, "Eh, I'm on Keto" and walked away. Oh well.

Hand made tortillas! Amazing tasting food! The chile is super hot! Must try if you go to the little town of Lamont.

A must try! My husband and I tried restaurant Chilate for the first time and Their customer service is outstanding, my husband loves chilaquiles and even though they don't have it on the menu el chilates cook made them for him! Now that's great customer service. I got the sopes and omg they are bigger than your usual Mexican restaurant, the meat (asada) was so tasty! The sauces are delicious and the horchata was perrrfect. This place is super authentic Mexican food, I suggest you go try it! They make hand made tortillas! You won't be disappointed During this pandemic they have shaded outdoor seating for comfort.

It is so unfortunate that these people are such horrible dog owners. Their food is alright, but this review is being solely posted on the fact that they have a dog with them at the restaurant. Now I'm not sure if that dog is kept there all day or just after a certain hour. However, from where I live in town there is only so many routes I can take to walk with my dog and my son. Unfortunately all the available routes means I have to walk by this place. I used to buy food here, but I will never be buying food again. Their dog has now TWICE tried to attack my dog who is friendly and on a very short leash. These people are irresponsible and one of the reason pits have a bad reputation. If you choose to bring your dogs with you the least you could do is keep them on a damn leash.

La comida siempre está rica !! Gracias Don Omar por su buen servicio siempre alegre. El ambiente es agradable con la música y también para convivir con familia ustedes siempre nos atienden amablemente aunque le pedimos muchas cosas como (limones,servilletas,chile ) o si queremos probar la agua fresca usted antes que nosotros pedimos, nos ofrece probar con la agua fresca que queremos comprar cualquier cosa siempre atento para todos. El sazón de la comida siempre está muy rica para cada antojo que tenemos. Me encantaron los tacos de camarón era mi primera ves probando y ahora se que va ser mi primer opción para la próxima! Came in for breakfast with my wife. The staff is super friendly and the food authenticity is second to none. Great flavor, homemade plate taste and you can't beat the homemade tortillas! My wife loved the taquitos dorados and I had the menudo. I must try if your in the area.
