Real Escape

As a big escape room enthusiast I've been intrigued by Real Escape for a bit but hesitant to book due to some questionable reviews. I decided to message them and ask them about the reviews, they brought it to my attention that there are new owners and the room that created so many of the negative reviews as in place when they took over, they have since removed it and added new rooms of their own. We booked both of their current rooms (Bayou Mystery and Bird Movie) this weekend for my wife's birthday to give it a shot. The Bayou mystery room is visually really nice. I like the setup a lot, the sounds/music is nice and the story was great. The room needs something else, I don't know exactly what but it needs something a little more innovative maybe? The room was just a few puzzles and a couple different types of locks, I was looking for something just a little more like a more interactive puzzle, something mechanical, idk just something to give it a little different feel than puzzle, lock, puzzle lock, rinse and repeat. The Bird Movie room is fantastic. It has a lot of different elements and the puzzles are fantastic. This room really had a great feel to it and it's really difficult, we enjoyed it a lot and would highly recommend it .Overall it was a great experience, the staff is very friendly and helpful. We let them know we love escape rooms but aren't great at them so they were very kind in giving us a nudge in the right direction when we got lost (which was often.) Thanks for a great time and we'll be back to try out new rooms in the future as they become available.

Super fun and creative place! I dont want to say too much, or it'll ruin the fun. The amount of time and energy they put into the rooms is amazing. You can tell that they want to make a unique and fun experience for those participating. Each of the rooms is unique to only Bakersfield. Doing the puzzles really shows you how well you can work with others. It was a lot of fun! I'm really happy this is here!

So HOT! They have no air in the waiting area and the room isn't that much better. We left 14 minutes before our time was up because we were covered in sweat.

So I need to begin my review by saying a HUGE THANK YOU to Erick! If I could make the font bigger and bolder I would have.Erick- you are the man, your business is awesome and my friends and I appreciate the fun you let us have while we were escaping!It was clear when we got to Real Escape that this place is the real deal. There are nerds happily playing Magic across the parking lot and inside nerds were sportin Star Wars tattoos and making Harry Potter references. My nerd friends and I fit in instantly which was quite welcoming!I purchased the Groupon offered for six people for $89 and it was well worth the price. When we arrived we were all kinda disappointed from our previous activity not playing out the way it was supposed to and most of us had a strong buzz. Erick, the little prince that he is, somehow managed to wrangle us and somewhat explain what our goal was. Once we got in the room all six of us discussed that we weren't listening at all so we just started tearing the place apart looking for clues and keys. We had a walkie-talkie that we used for clues but it was also used for teasing and banter from Erick and his associate. After we escaped like the champions we are (with 7 minutes to spare), Erick offered to take us into their shop. In this shop they are creating Star Wars and Super Hero replicas they are selling, have parts and pieces of old rooms lying around and so much more. It was amazing. It was the hall of dreams!! Erick even showed me photos of his gorgeous daughter's costume makeup skills. We all had such a great time that before we even left the parking lot the six of use decided we were going to come back once the room switched to a new theme.

My Girl Scout Troop girls (11-14yrs old) have done a couple of rooms here. They where challenged by the puzzles & had a great time. We plan on going again soon

I love a good logic puzzle and quality time with friends, and Real Escape is just that! We've done two escape rooms here so far and can't wait to do another.It's very reasonably priced (even without the Groupon). The rooms are challenging without being frustrating. We've succeeded both times with 5 to 6 people. They have themed rooms that will excite any nerd. The rooms are pretty DIY. I appreciate that the owners/employees put their own blood, sweat, and tears into creating the rooms.

So much fun!!! And I'm happy to report, WE SAVED CHRISTMAS!!!!!!! This will really make you think! So much j want to say but I don't want to give it away. Free lockers so lock up you things and go have a good time!

Visiting from out of town and thought we'd check out a local escape room with the family. We've done about a dozen other rooms in other cities, and this was one of the worst we've been to. The staff seemed very disorganized upon arrival and were quite behind schedule (we began almost an hour after our scheduled start time); the instructions provided felt unrehearsed and redundant. While waiting, we overheard the staff speaking about another room in progress that had not been set up correctly. We paid extra for the "premium" room which did not qualify for the Groupon, and we were excited to hear that it was their most challenging room. In reality, the greatest challenge was trying to open their faulty locks - the staff entered the room, confirmed we had the correct combo, and couldn't open it themselves for a good 5 minutes. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience: faulty equipment, poor organization, and easy puzzles. Second star is for the two small upsides: we got a patch for finishing, and someone in our group found a hidden free admit token in the room. I would have traded both of these for a better overall experience, and likely will not be returning.

This was a lot of fun, but frustrating. We were in the bootleg room. I really enjoyed all the small touches, like the music and the bottles of shine. I'll definitely be coming back to do the next room!

Four adults - Wonderland room If we were rating ambiance alone, this room would get five stars. The hard work that went into creating this environment is obvious. A couple of the puzzles were cool and were unique. Ultimately, the story was lacking, the clues were directionally weak and most of the puzzles were whatever. We broke out in less than 30 minutes and it would have been 15 if we hadn't spent five on a walkie talkie malfunction and another ten on an unclear technicality. There needs to be more content to justify charging people for an hour long game. We won't be back to try the other rooms, which is a bummer because the potential is there.
