Ranch Motel

Classic vintage 50's hotel walking distance to old town and downtown. Very old and not so well kept up. The bathrooms need to be upgraded. They did not have toilet paper in the room. Won't stay here again unless like the night I visited there was no rooms available elsewhere.

This place would be SO CUTE if it was clean. The floor was not swept AT ALL. Dirt and debris stuck to our feet. There was pubic hair in my niece's bed. The two desks were both disgusting inside. One bed was extremely soft and bouncy, the other was like concrete. The towels were all dirty but folded. Well, not folded properly. They were folded like, in half and in half again. My phone charger fell out of the very loose outlet in the middle of the night and knocked over my soda, so at least we were able to use the dirty towels to clean that up.And checkout was 10:00??? I've NEVER seen a motel with a 10:00 checkout time. Only 11 or 12. Oh! Don't forget the part where my underage niece stepped outside for a moment and saw a man standing out in the open in just underwear. For $95, this was abysmal. Clean up, replace the mattresses, and for heavens sake...SWEEP THE FLOOR. Then this place would be downright adorable.

First off, 5 star rating does not mean this is a 5 star hotel. It means that for the price, location, convenience, service, hospitality, amenities and any other relative category as compared with others in this class, I give the Ranch Motel 5 stars. My second stay, 2 years later. My original review is below, 4 star. I would change to 3.5 if I could. Maybe there was a new showerhead, maybe a new TV. But bathroom door did not close. Peeling paint in bathroom was terrible. Let us not talk about the toilet. Birds presumably picked up and dropped garbage from the exterior can near our room, and was nothing was picked up for 3 days. One hanger in closet. Door from the outside could be opened with just about anything, such as a day-old bagel. Whatever. I do think the bedding was clean and that is pretty much the main thing for me. I had brought all purpose cleaning and a scouring pad this time, but did not really have to use it much. The proprietor was very nice and probably thought the room was good enough. Idunno, maybe it was for $70/night on Memorial Day Weekend. You decide. As for me, next year when I will likely return to Tehachapi, I will be moving on to another place that is less, well, "charming." I no longer think the value proposition is favorable. I used to be a house-painter, and it would be tempting to come back prepared to fix the room up for them - but not that tempting. I just feel like teaching the owners or managers something, to help them. They need to put more skin in the game to make more money.Another reviewer wrote "Bed bugs, moldy showers, rude staff, no volume on tv, slow WiFi". NOT TRUE FOR EITHER OF MY 2 STAYS. The allegation of bed-bugs was very cruel and I don't believe it. The "staff" was really nice to me on this last trip.==================Older review: The ranch motel is what it is. That is why I gave it four stars. I really don't appreciate people who leave yelp reviews of places like the ranch motel, which offers reasonable accommodations at a very low price, as if they were staying at the Beverly Hilton. At the Beverly Hilton you have the option to complain that the toilet licker had a spot of filth on his shoes. At the Ranch motel you do not have that option. In my next life time I have Motels Impossible go to this place and renovate it because it wouldn't take much to make it a much better experience. The current owners do not seem to display understanding of that simple proposition, how for example they could make more money by providing a $12 hairdryer in each room. During our three day stay one person did everything, a very very hard-working person. I hope future reviewers of the Ranch Motel take this into account and do not dump on this person as I've seen some reviewers do. Thankfully many of the other reviewers have made observations similar to mine. It's the value proposition.

There was a bed bug infestation in room 14 when I stayed in June of 2023. I got bitten up all on my arms and back, and saw a clear infestation on my third day when I checked behind the bed. Black spots everywhere, body casings, and I even saw a live one crawl away from me. I have gotten bed bugs from a motel 3 years ago, so I know the signs. Plus this time was obvious. I told the manager at front who said I could change rooms and also said I would either get a refund for my night, or have a free extra night in the new room (#6. Which did not have bed bugs), NEITHER of which they honored. I did NOT get a refund, and I did NOT get a free night in the new room. I had to throw away clothes that I kept in the bed with me, and a book, and I missed an important doctor appointment because of having to deal with the bugs, and switching rooms. I tried multiple times to get my refund, I even came back again in August and the manager went back on his word and refused me every time. Even called the cops on me. And remember that book I left behind because it was on the bed? I saw it sitting in the front office for others to read. The manager went from saying I was his favorite guest to calling the cops on me because I was trying to get back my money, which he said I could get. I do NOT recommend staying here. If you must, please do not stay in ROOM 14.

This is a basic motel, and I am rating as such. Check in was easy, it was clean, everything works (tv, mini fridge, microwave, wifi, hot water). Brick walls for privacy. We would stay here again.

If you're desperate, stay here. If not, keep traveling to a better motel. That's all I can say. If you read this and stay here anyway, good luck.

First off: the bedsheets were clean and soft. Upon arriving, I quickly made a mental note not to touch anything other than the bed and the desk. This place is filthy. The shower drain was clogged with hair and there were cockroaches in the bathroom. Two of the walls in the bathroom were completely rotted through, revealing the insulation. Peeling paint and insects (mostly earwigs) everywhere. The lamp was broken, so I had to keep the main light on until bedtime. The area surrounding is likewise questionable. Trash everywhere, a broken toilet (???)--everywhere, filthy. Do not recommend. Should be rated a Zero, but sadly that's not even an option.

Very shaddy. Maybe that's why you don't see but 1 car there. They will say that the room is one price and then it will show up on your account as cell phone pmts which is more than the receipt they give you. Also the room was nasty the door know so loose about to fall off. The drapes on windows no privacy and when you take shower it will over flow and then water also comes up from floor and in to the room from bathroom. This place needs to be investigated they are scamming people. Will not recommend staying there​

I would rate Rancho Motel with "0" if I could. The motel should not be listed through expedia-AARP. I stayed there one night, in Rm. 14, in August 2023. I was tired at night from driving, and the location was convenient. I think it is sometimes good to patronize "Mom & Pop style" motels instead of motel chains. However, this motel is a dingy place. There was broken glass on the walkway outside my room near an open trash container. I had to walk through this mess from the parking space to reach my room. Inside, the bed sheets were dirty with visible dirt. They weren't changed from a previous occupant! The thin pillow case was ripped. The shower stall looked stained and unappealing. The whole room was cheaply furnished and unappealing. I decided not to change my driving clothes to sleep in a dirty bed. I should have thought there might be a problem because, on expedia-AARP, it said that refunds were not available. Do not stay there!
