Pounds is a convenience store/Shell gas station that always seems busy because of two reasons. First of all, it has a great location & not much competition in the immediate area. Secondly, it sits on an okay size lot, but doesn't have more than six pumps for gas which leaves limited space for parking. Due to being near oilfields, a good amount of service trucks frequent this store, so the parking situation can be tricky at times. Other than that, no major complaints with the establishment.Great selection of liquor/beer/soda for a quick grab on the way home, and of course a few select staple-type grocery items are available. They have more to offer in the way of groceries than a standard 7-11, which is nice if you need to pick up a loaf of bread or something for lunch. They actually used to have a Smith's bakery counter within about 9-10 years ago, and I miss it from time to time. I believe they still have a meat counter inside, but they have done some remodeling in the last year or so. I tend to pay at the pump, so don't quote me on that counter.They have had the same owners for many years, and they are a nice family...

I'm not sure if this is the same store that I used to go to with my brothers to go buy Penny Candy for $0.25 we got a full bag it was then called Mary Pounds and I'm not even sure if it's the same store or owner, it looks completely different than in my memories but wow let me tell you I have some wonderful wonderful memories of this place in my childhood we left Bakersfield when I was 10 in 1972 I can't believe that there's still a store with the partial name I'm wondering if it's still within her family....
