Pop's Drive-In

I had heard things about Pop's pastrami. All good. And it was true. But the burger we had them put the pastrami on was a while 'nother story!They have a drive-thru, and outdoor seating, but we decided to sit inside so we could shoot a video review without all the traffic noise from Niles. This place has been here a long time, and the building is old school, but very clean. The menu is extensive, with chicken sandwiches, corn dogs, chicken tenders, and all sorts of ice cream concoctions. But what caught my eye was the sign on the door, about customizing your burger with extra patties and all. And the idea hit me.In In n Out speak, a five by five. A burger, with five patties, and five slices of cheese. But this one would also have pastrami! The lovely young ladies behind the counter, the ones with wonderful smiles and personalities, said they could do it! We got it as a combo, and of course, only bought one for the two of us to spilt, since I KNEW we couldn't eat it all. The combo came with fries, and I couldn't believe the HUGE portion of fries. Seasoned crinkle fries, cooked just right for crispy outside, perfect inside. But I wanted to see how their onion rings were, because that IS important. And yes, they were very good. Not that diced and reconstituted stuff, like the "King" of burgers. Ranch dressing on the side,... very good. And they have a large variety of sauces you can get.Now, the burger. Lordy, it was huge! Five patties. They were kinda like a smash burger, with the crunchy caramelized crisp around the edges, but not quite as thin in the middle as a real smash burger. And good beefy flavor. Did I mention FIVE? Cheese on each one, and pastrami on the top. But not just any pastrami. Sweet, juicy, fatty, tasty goodness. I got to go back and get a pastrami sandwich, with the mustard, pickles, and all that. It is some GOOD pastrami.Now, the service. Oh, yes. Wonderful. From the inside counter, you can see the whole kitchen. Looked nice and clean. Two guys at the flat-top, smiling and gettin' it done! And two young ladies working the counter were just amazing. Making sure we got the burger we were looking for, and all with the best personality and genuine smiles we've seen recently. They really make you feel welcome. On the way out, looking again at the menu, the shakes caught my eye. I asked the young lady if they had malt. First off, a lot of young folks don't even know what malt is. Not only did she know, she said yes! So we ordered a large peanut butter malt for the road. Thick, rich, great flavor, yeah. Hard to get any through the straw kind of thick. They do things right here. Stop by when you get a chance!

Good old fashion mom and "pops!" Burger joint. Everything was well done. Tasted good. Tasted fresh and a good time. Definitely, a locals run and managed business. Nothing bad to say about this spot. I'll be back. Something about handmade patties and crinkle cut fries that reaches my soul. I'll take pics next time I'm up for sure!

POP's is the bomb! Love their biscuits and gravy. The fries are delicious. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Good burgers ! I have lived in Bakersfield my whole life. This has always been one ofOur go to burger choices ...try the chili verde burritos !

I'm addicted to the grill chicken salad!!! It's so FRESH and tasty! I went through the dryer thru it was very fast!!!

Pop's Drive-in on Niles has the best pastrami in town... let's start with lots of pastrami, thin sliced and tender, and tasty on a soft French roll !!

Worker looked out of it. Handed me the wrong change. I'm pretty sure he was trying to also overcharge me. $19 for a regular burger combo seems too much....

Hamburgers sucked this time back then were bomb burgers now I order a family pack and they took out the red onion and the thousand island now they put white onions and ranch inside them they just don't get the same flavor sorry but go back old school recipes you guys had and they were all black burn from the bottom

Honestly I Tried It Once nd It Was Good No Cap I Went Next Day For Shakes Only When I Got Off the Car Nd Started Walking Towards Them they turn outside lights off mind u there's cars in the drive thru so I was Jst standing see if they were gon tell me they close or not though I only wanted was a shake 4-5 employees in there all them passed by me nd didn't mind to even look or say a anything that was soo rude like if U're closed let it be known don't Jst let me waste my time when I pulled up lights were all on so if I walked in at wrong time Jst lmk nd I'm gone made me feel dumb nd neglected
