Old River Grill at the Marketplace

Our favorite classic go to brunch spot for the last 10 years in Bakersfield. I can't believe I never reviewed this place. We have been to all their locations in Bakersfield (even the new one at the old Milts). They used to give free mini muffins of the day but now they give complimentary muffin bread slices before you order (but you have to ask). They are always busy especially on Saturday and Sunday brunch times but you can add your name on the waitlist on their website. Their fluffy buttermilk pancakes delicious, recipe is just right. We like their classic omelets and egg benedict options. They do have seasonal specials. Service is always attentive.Ambiance in the Ming Marketplace location is your classic outdoorsy mom & pop diner but clean and not dark at all. We always go back because we have not been disappointed.

Mom had a coupon for Old River Grill at the Marketplace. She asked me to pick up lunch for us here using the coupon. I'd never been to this restaurant before so I looked forward to trying their food. The place was packed with customers both inside and outside the restaurant when I arrived. I told the hostess outside that I wanted to do a takeout order so she told me to head inside.I probably should have asked what their specialties or popular menu items are. Ended up ordering Albacore Tuna Melts for each of us. I liked the sandwich. My Mom said it was okay too. Next time I'll order something else, and hopefully we will dine here in the future too.While I was waiting at the counter for my order, I was just observing the activity around me. The staff was very busy assisting their customers. Everyone seemed happy both the employees and the patrons. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked scrumptious. Looking forward to coming back someday.

Tried this place for the first time while visiting and staying nearby at a hotel. Didn't wake up early enough for the hotel breakfast so looked up brunch places and Old River Grill's menu looked tasty. I wanted to take it back to the hotel so I could do some work and got a online order for pick up. I opted to try the Monthly special - smoked salmon omelette (comes with smoked salmon, capers, red onion, cream cheese is folded into the omelette) and a hollandaise sauce. Comes with a potatoes and bread side I got crispy hash browns and a half order of French toast .Everything was yummy, I'm usually wary of omelettes because places can under or overcooked their eggs and it can not be appetizing. The omelette here was perfect, honestly no notes and this was such a hearty swap for a traditional bagel and lox. I've never seen this option on another menu before so definitely points for creativity and execution. They also have a salsa andI recommend picking up a side to eat with the omelette it's a good extra.The hash browns were good as well. They stayed crispy even with a travel back to the hotel and sitting in a container. Didn't need any extra seasoning either.I usually like a sweet breakfast so couldn't resist getting a French toast as a side. I could tell just by the way it is fried this would be good. Although the toast itself isn't a brioche or challah it does fit the bill for a solid brunch spot French toast. It also is served with a creme anglais and syrup which takes it to another level. Pictured is just a half order. I only had a short time inside as I picked up food but everything was nice and clean. Plenty of tables and they have a patio area if you prefer to dine and get some sun. Staff was also very friendly and things seemed to be humming along. Definitely a solid brunch spot with tons of options on the menu for everyone, would try this place again.

Today we stopped in for Lunch / Breakfast and received the best service by AUTUMN. Served with a beautiful smile and treated us like VIP's AUTUMN served us super professional and efficient... our drinks were always full and she always checked on us to ensure everything was good.Inside is super clean and had a minimal wait to get seated... somewhat busy on this Christmas Eve morning.I ordered the Turkey club sandwich and it was super delicious and highly recommend.Thanks again AUTUMN for the best service and for making our holiday meal special.

A meal on the menu is named "the best fried chicken "No no no.... They dropped the ball on this menu item. Get breakfast, not dinner. Dry, Burt chicken that smelled horrible. When frying chicken, it should be golden, not dart like this. I think the oil was old, they said it's like that because of the seasoning lol. I'm leaving this review in hopes that they won't attempt to put this plate in front of ANYONE else. I didn't even attempt to eat such a thing. Staff was nice, but they still didn't admit that this was unacceptable food to come out of any kitchen. Breakfast only.

A staple in the community! never a bad meal or experience. Went with my husband Monday morning and enjoyed breakfast. Service is fast and friendly. We split a cinnamon roll for an appetizer and it was perfect with our coffee. I had the tamales breakfast special and was delicious with beans and eggs and had leftovers

At Old River Grill Again Bringing Cassandra Back To School. About To Get Our Grub On..!!! So We Had A Small Wait Because It's Too COLD Today, We Usually Sit Outside With SANCHITO But Not Today. So I Ordered The Croque Madame Which Is Basically Their Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich. My Fiancée Ordered The Sourdough Breakfast Sandwich, And Cassandra Ordered The Korean Chicken And Waffles. I Am Excited To Try Somethang Different For Once..!!!

unbelievable! The food is Great!the Service,Erica, our server...currently in Nursing School took care of our every need when he had breakfast today. the conversation with her and her questions made our experience unbelievable!she was so forth coming that she anticipated our every need. we met a new friend today and when we come back next we will be sure to sit inside Erica's station. 10/10 service with Bridget , first time here and we needed our meal corrected about 2 time due to our preference ! And she kept a very caring and nice attitude so helpful !!!! Definitely worth it and will be coming back !

I visited this morning and had the pleasure of being served by Erica. She was incredibly attentive and friendly, and went above and beyond in making sure my iced tea was always full. Glad I listened to her recommendation of trying the salsa. Best breakfast in town!
