Mary K Shell Mental Health Center

This place is a joke, its so dirty inside, a sign fell on my face when I was sleeping, staff is unprofessional. this place needs ticlose.

HORRIBLE PLACE. You will be ignored and forced to sleep on chairs. It doesn't feel safe and the food is absolutely appalling. I was here for a 4 hour evaluation and told I could leave once I got a hold of a family member. It was about 6 am and I told workers I needed 2 more hours to contact family. They did not care and forced me into a 51/50 and the hell hole known as Bakersfield behavioral health hospital. I would never reccommend this for anyone seeking real care and help for your problems.

Avoid this facilty at all cost not unless you are in a REAL danger. They will hold you like a prisoner. There is no compassion/empathy from the staff.

This was the worst, nastiest, scariest mental hospital I've ever been too, the male staff yelled at me practically threatening me right when I arrived to "get me to calm down" and I was a 19 year old 110pound female, treated patients horribly, and everyone was put in one big room with couch beds all next to each other, at least 20 mentally ill people screaming, tweaking, manic or trying to "sleep" with all the lights on and feeling unsafe. This place should 100% be shut down, people need to realize that majority of people in these situations are MENTALLY ILL! If you can't be somewhat compassionate then get another job. Not to mention most likely a health violation

They do not even deserve 1 star, a sheriff took me to Mary K shell after my kids father was having road rage with me and was mad because I did not want to be with him. They took me in and not my kids father. Staff talks unprofessionally. I was moved around at night time Only and was locked in a room, I was forced to take medications I did not want to take. Every time I complained or other girls complained they were forced to stay longer and I wanted to go home to my kids, they promised to let me out in 72 hours and said I had no choice but to obey and I was taken to Kern Medical center for ''futher evaluation'' and was forced to stay there 2 weeks, I finally played dumb and they let me out and now I am writing this review. Don't let your family go to Mary K shell, treat them outside. NO one wants to be locked in a facility where they want you to play dumb just so they can get paid more or make you seem mentally ill when in reality its the staff trying to convince you you have problems when you see everything they are doing. This place should be taken down or just open as a museum or call ghost hunters. Staff is not professional, they opened a bag of trash near my feet at 3am and that could have been hazardous to me. The trash bag had feathers, cigarette butts and other weird things like if they were trying a ritual. What kind of Medical Center opens a bag of trash near patient's feet? Especially mine. Close this place down.

Worst service ever. Went through 4 "professionals," and was told every time my insurance was accepted, then at the last minute was told they did not take it and I would be fully charged for all services. How can 4 people mislead you that badly. Now I'm stuck with a bill that is over half a thousand dollars, and when I ask for help they just smile and say "sorry it was a mistake." They're the ones who mislead me the entire time, and I asked them each several times if my insurance would cover the services. It sucks that I'm stuck with the bill for their lack of knowledge on their own services they provide.
