Back for another great Happy Hour/early dinner at Maginn's, with Hunter and Rusty manning the bar -- really the whole place. As always, the crowd is fun and friendly, with music and chatter creating an upbeat, uplifting atmosphere. My half & half (Guinness and Harp) was cold and satisfying, while a couple of side-nips of top shelf Irish whiskey inspired one of those "clicks" that Tennessee Williams highlighted in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Food. Yes, food. Last time, I ordered the sausage platter (most excellent), so I wanted to try the fish & chips. Trouble is, the portion is titanic, and I knew it would sink me. They don't have an official half order, but "unofficially," if you order the fish sandwich without the bun, you're getting a 1/3 order with the same chips and cole slaw, and you'll still be able to fit in your swimsuit (or the back of a crew cab) at the end. The fish was fresh and very tasty, nicely battered and lightly fried. So many fish & chips preparations are too rich and greasy and filling, but this was a home run. The chips, while not hand-cut or particularly special, were properly cooked and very satisfying. House-made tartar sauce was tasty for sure, and the Cole slaw (also house-made) had far more layered flavor than one would ever expect. So yes, Maginn's is the perfect place to have a perfect pint, as well as a very tasty, very satisfying meal for a very reasonable price. Please make a plan to stop in and while away the afternoon.

5 stars for this authentic Irish pub!! The beer is always real cold here which is nice. Lots of Irish meal options on the menu to choose from. Last time I had the lemon pepper wings and they were delicious!! This time I came back for the fish n' chips. The beer batter they use is good and crispy. It's a thick cut of fish as well. Definitely enough to share or chow it down yourself! The house made tartar sauce is fantastic.Unfortunately, the price of this meal has almost doubled since they opened in 2020, so it's definitely a bit pricey at $28. Still good for a nice fishy treat every once in a while.

It's a 5. This place is absolutely WORTHY of all the raves. From the frothy perfect Guinness pours, to the baked-in dinner pies to the cozy tucked-in-bar ambiance with it's dark oak and Irish feel to the core, this is it! We started with the Guinnesses. Because you must do this. It's Irish Law. Not Murphy's Law, mind you...that would be where you walk in to the Irish Bar and, with your luck, they're only serving Japanese Food. They're not - this is 100% Irish food/drink/party love. What we had: CRISPY BRUSSELS SPROUTSMAGINN'S SLIDERSCOTTAGE PIEandmore drinks than we can remember. Laddies & Lasses...GET HERE!DIA DUIT

This is a nice establishment, but.. crowded and limited on seating. There is a 4 dome playing Uno and taking up a table. So they will sell 4 drinks, instead of 4 dinners and drinks... not a good business model. We have been here before, and food was good, full bar was nice, parking limited unless you use the parking structure close by... we probably won't be back again. To many other choices with limited wait. Time vs value.

The fish & chips is where it's at! Everything else was tasty, but I'd be happiest to go back for the fish & chips. Large portions of well seasoned, wild caught flaky, crispy fish, paired with the absolute perfect fries! All dunked in tartar sauce of course! The only thing I didn't enjoy was the coleslaw because it was straight up onions! It didn't taste like traditional slaw at all, but the Mac n cheese and Brussels sides were very good and really made up for that sad side. Service was friendly too, which was a plus! Chill spot on Main. I'd go back!

If you're craving some delish pub-food look no further than Maginn's! The Fish & Chips are SO good -- cooked perfectly and not overly fried and such a huge shareable portion. But their sides are also great!! Their Mac & Cheese is a must. The interior is super cozy and just the right amount of "pub" vibes -- although you might have to wait a minute to snag an indoor table...

Ok, I know exactly where to go for one of the best fish and chips I've had! There was another restaurant I went to years ago in Folsom and no one has ever compared to them until I came here! Wow! They did it! Amazing! My son had ordered the fish and chips and I was pleasantly surprised at the size of that piece! Theirs has definitely made me excited for this dish now that I have one so close to home! I personally ordered the bangers and champ. It was such a treat! The flavors of everything was amazing! The sausage was soft, I do prefer a snap in my sausage, but oh man was the flavor there! I would still order that again! The service took a little long, but was very friendly and accommodating. We also ordered onion rings and pickle chips. They are a must! Seriously they know what they are doing with their battered food! Yum yum yum! We sat outside and they have heating out there if it gets too cold. Definitely recommend this pub!

Since there are over half a million people living in the greater SCV north end of LA County, it would make sense that there should be dozens and dozens of first class restaurants to serve them. Up until recently (last ten years?), this area was seriously underserved. Not any more.I also find it curious that many if not most of the newest places to open are gastropubs. What's that about? I am not sure but if Maginn's is a good example, then it is because people want simple food, served in a warm and cozy environment with reasonable prices, catering to a wider range of tastes. As my fellow Yelpers know, I am a vegetarian who is largely vegan and have been for over forty years (e-gad!), so what I am looking for is slightly different from most of my fellow Yelp reviewers. That is, I want great food, with an interesting twist, served in a spotless environment with friendly people around me and as little meat as possible.Maginn's is a meaty place. OK, I get it. Until the rest of humankind catches up, I find most meat-centric restaurants will offer something I can eat, even if I have to make it up once I see the menu.It was no problem at Maginn's, as they have thought of this and included options for vegans (especially) and vegetarians (they could add more for us). One thing I have noticed is that meat eaters don't realize that putting bacon bits on everything spoils it for those of us who truly notice and don't want to eat animals. (Sorry, it has to be said...)But, let's talk about what is exceptional and seductive about Maginn's. First of all, it looks exactly, and I do mean exactly, like the pubs you see in Ireland. It has a warm, enveloping atmosphere with lots of wood and dark, rich, jewel colors. There are authentic accents everywhere you look. Check out the cabinetry, with drawers, the old photos and bottle collections, the inlaid tiles that hold the stools along the bar, the old fashioned lights and little signs and notes in every corner that make you feel as if you are truly in the Old Emerald Isle. I am 35% Irish, so I appreciate every little detail as most Irishmen do, so proud of our Celtic heritage. As for what to eat, no one makes potatoes better than the Irish and Maginn's has perfected them. I especially loved the delicate dusted Salt Potatoes. The fries are crisp and delicious. The cheese toastie was unusual and good with fried angel-hair onions and a beefy slab of tomato on a sourdough slice. When you order the fish and chips, you get an enormous portion of both and all this is served, UK-style, on bespoke newspaper sheets -- quaint and fun.Maginn's offers a wonderful selection of draft beer. Notice the Smithwick Red Ale -- what a gem and not found everywhere, it is considered a prince among Irish beers. And, of course, King Guinness -- I only drink beer sparingly and dark exclusively so having these sterling choices was wonderful. The dessert menu is equally amazing. There are two I am going to try next time: Toffee pudding and Bread pudding. I was just too ambitious with the rest of my selections to add anything sweet this time, but believe me, based on Maginn's overall high quality, it was hard to restrain myself. The service is warm, friendly, and professional. Our table was taken exceptionally good care of by Hunter, and there were others who stopped by to make sure we had everything we could possibly want.I have only a couple of tiny suggestions for Maginn's: please have more truly vegetarian offerings without broth or bacon in them; put a bit more cheese in the Toasty; and add Murphy's stout to the beer menu. Other than that, Maginn's is on the rotation now and we will be back.Cead mile failte! Slainte!
