La Fonda Taqueria & Mariscos

This is our favorite spot. Food is so so good. Service is good. Really good ambience. For this spot we travel from Fresno and Riverside: you just got to do it! BTW - Great price

This simple casual Mexican restaurant is a busy place the locals love. You can dine in or take out. You order at the counter and your food is delivered to your table if dining in. The staff is polite and efficient. Your food is cooked to order. It is my go to place for shrimp tacos! Whenever I'm in Shafter this is a must. The shrimp is grilled to perfection, succulent and delicious. There are some grilled vegetables all on a corn tortilla with melty cheese and topped with ranch dressing on fresh lettuce. The flavor and quality are consistent.

Ordered a hamburger from La Fonda here in Shafter. I got home to find that there's ACTUAL MOLD on the hamburger. Don't get me wrong I would enjoy the food from here before, but that's disgusting. The cooks need to do their job and actually check the food they give out.

Ordered a campechana and wet burrito, this is my honest review.Campechana tasted really clammy and fishy, was fresh but taste was not there. wet burrito was really salty and had too much cheeese and not enough meat, the meat pieces were small and tasted like spam. Would not return here.

First time here and let me just say I can't wait to come back !! The refried beans alone were worth the visit , holy moly so delicious and authentic !! I ordered the enchilada, chili relleno with rice and beans , it was amazing!! Husband ordered the breakfast machaca with eggs , he loved it and ate every bite . My daughter ordered the chili verde enchiladas, pretty much everyone cleaned their plate lol . The place is really big inside and they have a lot of specials throughout the week. Patti took our order and was so patient with us, there were so many options we couldn't decide. She was awesome and so friendly ! I heard the shrimp tacos were good so we are definitely coming back soon to try those out .

I ordered a three taco combo. I ate 1, and a half. I stopped there because there was a big piece of plastic bag in the 2nd one. It was rolled up lengthwise a I didn't see it. But after chewing a couple of times I realized something was wrong. When I spit it out and unrolled it, it looked like the corner of a zip lock baggie. I walked back to the restaurant and asked for a refund. I'm assuming it was the owner asked if I wanted her to remake them. Said no, just a refund.Then she started arguing with me about the refund said I should only get half bc I ate half.I said I don't need to argue with you over 5 bucks. I have a business office across the street. Do you think I put a big ass piece of plastic in my own food to get a refund after eating half? That's stooppit. So then she started talking shit to me about trying to cheat her. And was talking shit about me in Spanish to a customer in line bc she assumed I no speakee the Spanish, but I do.. I should have given her back the refund and told HER to eat the plastic bag if she didn't think it was a problem.Don't eat there.If u do, check your food for foriegn objects b4 u eat.I'm a business owner, also. And I'd be mortified if something like that happened to me. I certainly would NOT talk smack about people that might get hepatitis or covid bc I have used plastic bags in my food.

Last time I ate here was in 2018, and I stopped going because the girl at the front register was rude. The food was always good, and I loved their horchata. I will have to try it again and give an update

It has been years since I've stopped here to eat. A coworker suggested we stop by today.I got Carne Asada Torta. Omg... so good! From the bread to the meat everything was so good. Came with a fried Serrano pepper! The bread was toasted to perfection. Meat was beautifully cooked and flavored. Avocado tasted fresh. I also loved the salsa bar that was fully stocked and clean! I'm most definitely stopping by here more often for lunch! Another plus, food was served in a timely manner and with great service!

Best vegetarian burrito its lightweight and taste so good. Definitely recommend. It also has avocado

I'm just throwing in an update since I have been eating at La Fonda fairly regularly over the past six months.I was surprised to see that La Fonda was only getting a 3-star rating overall. But then I looked, and all of those bad reviews only took stars away because of service, not because of food.Don't get me wrong. La Fonda is not perfect. The service could be friendler. It's weird when the person taking your order suddenly stops to answer a phone and take their order instead. Sometimes the smell coming from the bathrooms is strong enough to make me gag when sitting in the seats at the back of the restaurant. But the food is so good I will overlook all of this.I've recently tried chicken and carne asada tacos, quesadillas, burritos, chilaquiles, and more, and nothing is bad. Nothing at all. And that salsa bar has something for everyone. I like the spicy salsa that comes in the big container that is reddish-orange in color, but if that's not for you, you will find something that is.Deal with the bad to get the good, and the good is definitely all that delicious food! Best in Shafter!
