La Costa is such a cute restaurant, with great music and attentive staff. There's usually a bit of a wait to get a table, but the bar area is great and there's hardly a wait there, so they quickly take your order and bring you chips and salsa. Overall, the food is good and so are their portions. We shared an order of mixed fajitas, which came with rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and tortillas; it was filling! La Costa also offers a variety of drinks, which are pretty good- just keep in mind that not all drinks are made with real fruit. Some are made with syrups and tend to be sweeter. Oh, and they have a great Happy Hour!

The dish I ordered was the New York steak. I was very disappointed with the quality of the steak. The cost was almost 40.00 which will keep me away from this restaurant. The service was great and the ambiance was loud but fun.

This place is always a hit or miss for me. The atmosphere is good to get together with friends and a drink and some food but the food is sometimes a let down. The drinks are usually decent which keeps this place on my radar and the service is usually friendly, so I do keep it on my list for others who enjoy it here. Tonight I had a cucumber margarita and I ordered the Los Arcos Nachos on the appetizer menu as my main dish. The drink was good as always, my nachos were forgettable, way too much greasy cheese, although I love cheese but it felt way too greasy and heavy. The nachos had shrimp and fish on them and that was literally it. While I can appreciate basic nachos this was a no for me. But it was a pleasant night and good company so I am sure I will be back and will just try something else on the menu.

I recently visited La Costa to celebrate my mom's birthday, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. During our meal, the server accidentally dropped hot seafood fajitas on my mom's lap, which burned her finger. The food also landed dangerously close to my 2-year-old daughter. What was even more concerning was the lack of response from the staff. No manager came over to check on my mom, and no one asked if she had any other burns. It wasn't until I personally requested it that they offered to comp the meal. I expected more attentiveness and accountability, especially after such a serious incident.I would have appreciated an apology or at least an offer to make sure my mom was okay. This experience left us feeling really disappointed, especially on what should have been a special day.

A Seafood Oasis in Bakersfield's Ice HouseI was returning to San Francisco, and on my way through Bakersfield, I decided to take some extra time for lunch. Looking online for a new place to try, I found La Costa Mariscos an interesting option. The restaurant is in a historic brick building called the Ice House. It serves hacienda-style Mexican food, and the menu is rich with fish and seafood. When I got there, the place was packed. The hostess asked me if I wanted to sit at the bar, and I said yes.I had no idea what to order, so I asked the waitress, a charming young lady, to suggest something. She hesitated, so I asked for her favorite and assured her I was not a picky eater. She suggested something Colorado; I am unsure if it was Chili Colorado or something else, but I wanted it with the "steak" option, not chicken. While waiting for my meal, I looked around. The building is spacious and fascinating, and the interior is colorful and friendly. My lunch was so delicious, and I was so pleased that I ordered one to go. While waiting, I indulged in my favorite Mexican dessert, flan! I left the Ice House with a full belly and fully satisfied with my choice. The place is beautiful, the service is excellent, and the food is delicious.

Popped into the location at the Ice House. The restaurant is very cute and cool, which was pleasant. This location is a lot more spacious than their Riverwalk one. I was on a mission to order a shrimp cocktail, a Mexican one. There were three in our party and we waited about 15 minutes for a table. The staff were friendly and professional. They did their best to accommodate all guests and it felt like we didn't wait that long. I ordered the house made chicharrones which was accompanied by a cabbage salad with a Mexican flair, which means it had pico de gallo and lime. They chicharrones were delicious and warm and the salad provided a refreshing complement. For our mains, we ordered the coctel de camaron, shrimp burrito, tostada mixta (which was an assortment of seafood), and a Baja-style fish taco. The coctel was bomb! Super refreshing, with crunchy cucumber, avocado, fresh tomato, onion, and cilantro in a tomato juice-- in fact it reminds me of gazpacho- a cold soup made from tomatoes in Spain. The main ingredient was the shrimp. My serving came with 10 large shrimp, perfectly cooked! I was super happy with my meal. I added some Tapatio and squeezed lemon juice into and it was perfect and filling. I had to leave 3 shrimp behind. The shrimp burrito came with rice and beans and also had rice in it so it was a bit much. The rice was authentic and I always judge a Mexican place by its rice and beans!! The burrito came with a white sauce inside and on top of the burrito, it was a bit bland and not sure if we will get this again. The tostada mixta was disappointing - it was like the seafood was boiled in plain water!! the octopus was super chewy which means it was not prepared well. We are definitely not ordering that again, sadly. The baja-style fish taco was okay. It was dry and flavorless, Rubio's makes a better one! So...this place is good for the coctel de camaron and that's it. Sorry! I hope others enjoy coctel!

Super friendly servers, a delightful and colorful ambience, and excellent food make this a solid choice when you're coming to Bakersfield. I particularly loved the enchiladas Del Mar.

It was my first time dining here at the Downtown location. We came on a Friday lunch time so it was quite busy but we were seated after a few minutes. I admired the interior and the high ceiling! It really felt that I was in Mexico. The staff were also nice, our server was fast and helped us with our questions. The chili verde enchilada was good but almost tasted the same with other places. The seafood dish (i forgot the name) was good, the soup tasted flavorful. Portion side was huge. They also have lunch special which was 11 dollars plus. Im supposed to give 4.5 but theres no option for that. Overall, i enjoyed my dining experience here.

So let me start by saying I prefer this location over the other one. The service and ambiance is better here. The trade off is that it's always super crowded and it's a long wait. That said, it's worth it because the food and drinks are better.
