This has been my first time here in many years. I have to say, probably not returning again. Upon entering, I was not greeted (not that important, really) the two employees were cleaning up to close up. I asked about white onion: they do lot carry them. I looked at the cilantro, and it looked as if it had been around for a week.Moving to the meat counter I requested a salsa, shrimp ceviche, and 4 pounds of taco meat.Went to check out and waited for around 5 minutes. Although slightly annoying, not a big deal since I was not in a rush. I went back for some beans while I waited. The attendant- still in cleaning gloves, came to check me out. I did ask for my receipt to verify charges. 5.76 pounds of taco meat. I understand going over a half pound, but almost 2 pounds is ridiculous. Unless this is the best taco meat I've had my whole life, I can comfortably say, I will never return.

Usually we have no issues with this establishment but I am disappointed today. I went in and asked for asada and was given mince taco meat. I just wanted regular asada to bbq on a charcoal grill. I never said anything about minced. Now we're scrambling to figure out how we are going to prepare it after lighting the charcoal bbq grill. We come here because they have my boyfriend's favorite salsa, but I probably won't go by myself again that way this doesn't happen again. Usually we are happy with the quality and flavor of the meat and salsas we get. Once in awhile we have a disappointing day where something wasn't the quality we expected. I'm still giving 4/5 stars because the employees are always courteous and welcoming. We would recommend the molcajete salsa, cucumber salsa, guacamole salsa, chicken and asada meat.

This was first visit. Had recently tried their Ceviche via a friend. The best! (Shrimp). Wanted more. Store was clean. Quaint. No off putting odor, A fair amount of dry goods but oddly, not a lot of meats, as it's called a "Meat market". I asked when the Ceviche was made, no response. A bit uneasy about that. Several employees working about behind meat counter. They appeared to be in a cheery, laughing conversation, yet I got the impression that I was interrupting and had somehow changed their atmosphere. Again, uneasy. The young man behind meat counter was not rude but was dry, unfriendly in tone. A young woman came from behind meat counter to assist me with checkout. I appreciated her cleanliness and wiping down of checkout area. She was not rude in tone but like the young man, of service, but not warm nor cordial. I purchased 1.5 lbs of Shrimp Ceviche - paid about $23.00. Not sure if that's competitive or excessive, but their ceviche is VERY GOOD!! Cleanliness is of utmost importance to me, and their store seems so. Product/Food quality and taste is paramount-the Ceviche definitely meets that expectation. Friendly service makes for a good rapport, repeat shoppers and positive referrals to others -- I will visit one more time, if met with same dry, uninviting tone of service, I will not return.

MENU AND FOOD: They offer a variety of freshly made ceviche, cuts of meat and other basic grocery items. SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE: Service was quick and efficient. Their indoor decor was plain and a bit dated. There is no seating here.PARKING: They have their own parking lot.IMPRESSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS: We their shrimp ceviche with a bag of chips and fresh guacamole, all of which were amazing! The vegetables and shrimp were finely diced and well mixed. Between the two of us, we shared a large container over lunch.

Good ole fashioned meat market with excellent customer service. The owner and his staff are always really welcoming and greet you when you walk in. They have an excellent selection and quality of meats especially their diced up meat for tacos i especially love their chicken al pastor. They also sell salsa , beans , rice and a limited amount of produce to get your cook out started right. On this day i stopped by to pick up some of their shrimp ceviche that I've been eyeing for some time. It was really good I highly recommend it , really fresh and perfectly seasoned with salt. I picked up a bottle of hot sauce on their shelf that added the perfect amount of heat that I needed and they had crackers and tostadas to accompany it. This place is still kinda of a hidden gem it's not ever to busy in there which I like I'm always in and out quick. If you ever find yourself off Rosedale highway stop by and check it out , it's next to the vista west continuation school , you'll be glad you did .

We've been coming to La Chuleta for years. They have always been so kind and helpful when we don't really know what we were looking for. Their meats are really good and we always pick up some of the prepared rice and ceviche. Today the butcher took his time to cut four slices of sirloin for sandwiches. I thanked him for helping and he told me that he was here to help me. I really appreciated his kindness. Love this place.

Went in to give this place a try for the first time, knowing it's a small market and prices are likely a bit higher, i dont mind that too much if the quality is good. It was our mistake not to catch it before leaving, so this is a warning if anyone plans to go there. Look at your meat tags. They charged this item as shrimp ceviche at $9.99/lb. I'm not sure if you can see clearly through the bag in the photo, but what we requested AND RECEIVED is Chicken Taco Meat. Nowhere near the same price. That's not an easy mistake for them to make. it seems intentional to me.

I recently moved to bakersfield & i come from a small town with great mom & pop meat shops. Ive been on the hunt for one here in bakersfield & i decided to give la chuleta a try.Its small , i went to the meat side & saw the price for carne asada was $4 cheaper then La carreta meat market , i looked and made sure it was not brown lol . & it wasn't. The carnicero was nice, respectful and helpful. The disappointment was the Lady who helped me at the cashier. She was so rude & didnt even greet me & its such a shame when raza acts that way. As a mexican myself I was truly disappointed, because its an experience like that. That makes you not want to go back. Especially because im not used to that from Raza i encounter with.

Was recommended by a friend to come to this place for their Carne asada. I got over 4 lbs prepared. I'll be straight up honest. Yes it's cheaper, but it has no inter-muscular fat, and their marinade sucks/ is less than average. Meat is kinda tough too. I'd rather have Vallarta Asada than this place.
