Worked all over California for fire and forestry and this place holds a special place in my heart. This German bakery has savory sandwiches, sweet desserts, and good imported beer Highly recommend the Poor Boy Prost!

We're from Bakersfield, but I instantly transported to Germany! I can't get enough of this bakery. I love everything about it: the ambiance, the gift shop, the decor, the food & the pastries! When we travel through the 58 we always have to come here. We usually get the eclairs (such as big size! So worth it!), the cream puffs, & pies!

Kohnen's is a dream bakery! If you have a sweet tooth, it's a must to get to Kohnen's! It was recommended by a family member to check it out and based on the incredibly long line, we knew it was a great rec! That have amazing pastries and they definitely sell out! They also offer delicious sandwiches and soups/salads. I was going to ask what the soup of the day was but got distracted by the sweets and ordered an almond Danish instead! It was delectable! My husband got a reuben sandwich and shared some bites with me. It was the best Reuben I've ever had! It was such a yummy spot that we stopped again today for breakfast (and cheesecakes)! Love love this bakery!! A must when you're in Tehachapi!!

The sandwiches were good (they were very heavy on the mayo) and the pastries decent. The sourdough sandwich bread and cinnamon roll were the stars of the order. We have had better and much worse. The variety was good. We stopped on a road trip and was there before 7am. It took 30-40 minutes for our order to be completed. Staff was ok, one friendly guy at the counter, the others didn't crack a smile. A couple locals came in after us, placed orders and were bumped ahead of our order... I can tell it is a great place to order for companies. One guy ordered a dozen different sandwiches to go. It's a solid 3.75 and I rounded up to 4. It is a quaint stop but not necessarily one I would repeat unless I was actually staying in town.

I want to go back next time I am in the area. This time around I had the pleasure of trying the brownie, sugar cookies, peanut butter cookie and the chocolate chip cheesecake. The peanut butter cookies are 10/10, top notch, can't beat'em. The sugar cookies didn't seem fresh so they crumbled very easily. The brownie was good, not great but good. The cheesecake looks so beautiful I almost don't want to cut into it. The service was good, front counter people are sweet as apple pie. It's a small town so if you get strange looks it's because they know you're just visiting to eat up their local sweets...

Do not miss the chance to stop at Kohnen's on your road trip! It is worth the side quest to get here! It's nestled in this cute historic town of Tehachapi which is easy to get to from the 58. Parking is easy with a lot right next door. We came on a Sunday at lunch time and waited in line for 5 minutes. There are tons of German imports such as pickles, pasta, beers, and the bakery display is vast. We got a salad and the Poor Boy, two pastries, pickles, noodles, and 2 drinks. The poor boy was absolutely delicious - we were hungry and still only ate half of it. The salad was also very large and the quality of fresh greens and portion of veggies was beyond what we expected. It's a super cool spot to sit on the patio and see the hikers from the PCT come by.

Family owned hard working people and great food. Gobe there for years . This Bakery has put Tehachapi on the map for a must stop when traveling. They have large variety of baked items (try the sticky nut roll) and all kinds of drinks including German beers. Too many items to name. P.S. try the Hot Cubano sandwich

Stopped by from out of town to try their pastries that were highly recommended. The women at the registers were very dismissive and rude. Once my transaction was complete, the woman didn't say anything or hand over the pastries. She just handed me my card and walked away. Will not be returning no matter how good the pastries are.
