If you are a veteran, or a spouse or dependent of a veteran, you should know about this place and spend a moment looking into any benefits you may be entitled to. After all, if you served, and you pay taxes, you have earned every right to receive your benefits. I can't stress enough how important it is to get into the Vet Center and see what's going on BEFORE you get into a situation that requires you to need services. I say this because although the staff here are friendly and pretty fast (for a government agency), VA claims take a long time to process. While this is happening, you don't want to be in need. The Vet Center on Golden State has plenty of parking and an organized sign in system. They have a good bit of room in the waiting area, and seem very interested in getting you what you need. So, thanks for your service, and don't forget to take a look at the benefits you might have coming.

The Kern County Veterans Service Department is a great Place they help Vets File Disability claims to the VA. They have experience counselors to help you submit your claim to the VA. The staff here is very professional and kind next-door is the Bakersfield vet Center they have counselors on standby to talk to any Veteran that needs to speak to some one about anything they need to get off their chest without being judged. It is best to come early and wait in line to be seen they are on a first come first serve basis make sure you have all your documentation to file your claim. They are here to help do not wait to come!

Following my father's death I went here. I received no help. I was given a number and til to wait. Twenty five minutes later I was called to ask why I was there. I gave them my father's information. I offered his death certificate, was told "when the rep calls you back he will answer all your questions."A little over two hours later. I was called back. He played on the computer and would not let me see the screen. He made ass copy of the death certificate and told me the family had no death benifit. I questioned him about it. He handed me a book and said it is in the bookHe was a total ass hole, not one word about my father's death or WW11 service. He seemed to be angry by my questions. How could anyone question his authority. I ended up going to VFW on s union where they helped me get the forms needed to file a claim,.a total waste of 4 hours time
