Kasagiri Restaurant

I ordered the 12-piece spicy tuna, crunchy roll, yellowpena roll, teriyaki chicken and an order of vegetable tempura. The Good: presentation was OK. The vegetable tempura was OK and met expectations? I didn't expect a quarter of an onion to be a piece of tempura and I didn't expect a tennis ball size of broccoli either. That's a sushi restaurant first for me in 40 years. The teriyaki chicken tasted ok but looked more like Chinese food with broccoli, carrots, onion, bell pepper, and zucchini mixed into the chicken. And that's the GOOD?The Bad: The sushi was on par with the poorest quality sit down restaurant or average fast food quality sushi. I've never had spicy tuna that tasted like it was made with bottled Sriracha in a roll before. The yellow tail on the yellowpeno roll wasn't seared like it states on the menu and it didn't melt in your mouth like you would expect from sushi grade fish. I also expected the jalapeños to be sliced thinner and put on each piece of the role. Instead, there was a soup spoon pile of it in the center of the to-go container. Avocados must've been in season because it was in all three of my rolls.I don't know what to say because I haven't tried the other two sushi restaurant/bars in Tehachapi yet. But coming from coastal Orange County, the quality of this food would put this restaurant out of business in six months.RECAP: Three rolls, teriyaki chicken and vegetable tempura for $95, no drink and no 20% tip for dine-in because it was to go. Also, prices are not advertised on the menu and you don't know what you're paying until after they ring you up. SB-478 California DOJ requires that the restaurant advertise pricing. The law specifically states that no restaurant is allowed to advertise a price less than a consumer would pay or no price at all. If a particular menu item has a price that may fluctuate because of a particular good/ingredient then the menu must state something to that affect.

Service was good and the rolls we ordered were great.. My only knock on the place is an unknown "surcharge" on my bill? I figure it's for using my credit card which I think is just their cost of doing business and I've been known to boycott places that do this in the past.. Time will only tell if we stop in again while passing through..

This is a great family owned and operated restaurant on the edge of downtown Tehachapi.Our extended family have been dining here for several years, and it continues to be an outstanding Japanese restaurant. All of the workers and members of the family were friendly and appreciative.Lots of variety, without driving to Los Angeles or San Francisco.The mochi portions were small and quite overpriced.The restrooms were clean, but used for storage.Otherwise, we will continue to dine here,

We have been craving sushi since we moved up here and Kasagiri didn't disappoint! Loved that it's been family owned and still run since 1991! All of the food was exceptional. The service was quick, friendly and we had a blast. We ordered the Sautéed Edamame, Soft Shell Crab, Nigiri Platter, Garlic Albacore Roll and a Rainbow Roll...all amazing. We did order the Shumai but I think they forgot the order, I just remembered now that it never came. No big deal, we had plenty of food! This is our spot now and we can't wait to go back.

Food is the best in town. Service is always on point. The people who work there are the friendliest. The decor is the same as when they opened the restaurant probably 20+ years ago. I bet that if they asked their loyal customers, who love their food, to come and help redo their place, they would get a lot of people. New tables and chairs, better lighting, new floors and some paint would make a world of difference. Still will always come back though, great food!

My wife and I dined here tonight. We had the combination plate that included soup or salad, teriyaki chicken, shrimp and vegetable tempura , California roll and rice. The chicken was dry, the California roll was bland and the shrimp tempura was the best part of the meal. This restaurant will not be our choice the next time we are in Tehachapi.

I visited with both my adult daughters, and was immediately greeted by friendly staff and incredible service. The restaurant was clean and organized. My daughters and I ordered bento boxes. We shared each other's food and tasted everything we ordered ranging from yellowtail sashimi, sushi rolls, fried tempura. We had edamame and sake as well. For dessert we had the green tea mochi, not a drop was left.By the end of our meals we were planning our next visit. If you live in town or you're coming to visit, you MUST stop to eat at this Jewel. We are definitely coming back!!!

I can't believe it's been 11 years since I reviewed the first time. At that time I did not eat sushi, I didn't know what I was missing. It is requested every year for a birthday. Food is good and taste fresh. Make sure to order the avocado tempura it is delicious. They are open for lunch and then close until 5 for dinner.

Hands down best sushi spot in Tehachapi. Huge variety and always delicious! Staff is very kind and service is always good. We love coming here it's our fav!!

they always give my son a free asian soda no charge . love their Mone chicken sauce . bomb!!
