Jastro Park. Not just a place for a picnic, to play tennis, or to play on the swing set. It is also a place for remembrance. This park has both the WWII Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. As the day nears for Memorial Day, the last Monday of May, that is what we should all do. Remember. Remember those that fought and died for us so we can live free and sleep in our beds peacefully at night.Whether you have a relative or friend who died in a war, or died serving in our nation's military, or you don't. Every American has the obligation to remember those who died.It is only because of their ultimate sacrifice that we, as Americans, have the freedoms we have today. So, when you go visit Jastro Park, or just drive by, remember our men and women who died for us.The park is a beautiful place to visit. It has multiple apparatuses for the kiddies. A lot of BBQ areas, ample seating and picnic benches, tennis courts and the Memorials.Go. Visit. Enjoy. Remember.

They took down most of the tennis courts and put in more pickle ball courts. They also built shade structures for the playground equipment but it doesn't really shade anything. Pretty horrible design (another failure brought to you by city planners) the amphitheater, bathrooms, and gazebo areas need work.

New pickleball courts! Super nice and spaced out so your balls aren't running into other people's courts. Have umbrellas in between each court so you can rest in the shade. Dolan pad right next to it so our kids were playing in the water while we were pickling. Playground was also creative and fun. Bathrooms and table areas definitely needed work. Women's restroom had a whole door missing in one of the stalls and found three dirty needles on the tables in the picnic area. You can totally tell that the community it working on the upgrades but you can't really avoid the homeless doing what they do. Still give it 5 stars cause we all had fun and the homeless were nice people. Just be careful before setting up around the tables and the grass area.

Back in the day, Jastro Park was a destination for me. Used to play tennis here every week with a friend of mine. Nowadays, I find myself just driving by the park. Recently, I decided to have lunch here. Brought my takeout, and I found one of their many picnic tables to dine at. It was very peaceful. There was a group of ladies chatting and eating close by. A man was shooting baskets at the basketball court. Folks were walking their dogs. Others were jogging. There is lots to do for whatever you want to do. There are still tennis courts. Nice play area for children. So bring your kids, or your significant other, or your dog, or just yourself. Jastro Park is a cool place to hangout. Well maintained and clean.

I host succulent trading events in Bakersfield and both events we have held at this park from recommendation from someone in our plant group and this park is perfect! Enough tables and some covered. Big enough and a play ground for people who bring their kids. Today was our second event and really enjoyed the park! We will be back.

This is a big part that is very well Kept For the locals to have a picnic in the evening when the park is quite full and at lunch time the people who come are looking for the correct tree to park under so that they can have a bit of shade and there is cancer survivors plaza at the corner. I wish the cancer survivor's plaza was up to up to snuff it where it was years ago but it seems to have been changed. As my wife is a survivor II honor people who are survivors and they have a piece of my heart.. Now back to the rest of the park there Are ground squirrel and gopher Holes littering the park. They are very active with ground squirrels.. And there are egrets that come for lunch and dinner probably breakfast too and seem to enjoy hunting these little critters. It's really interesting to watch the critters hunting and fleeing and fleeing and enjoying their lives in this big park. You never know what you might see if you watch carefully.

Jastro Park is a fairly large facility with a number of positive amenities, especially if you've got kids!Chief among the attractions here to interest grown-ups relates to tennis. There are not only tennis courts available to play on, but there's actually a tennis wall where you can work to hone your stroke when you're practicing solo :-)The park is both clean and well maintained; there's simply no reason not to pay it a visit if you find yourself in the area!

Great park in Bakersfield. I've visited the park many times to play Pickle Ball. Basketball court always has full-court games. Families have BBQs in the park. For our area, the park feels safe during normal hours.

Jastro Park was built in 1917, and has been in use as a park for well over 80 years. There are a number of different amenities offerred here which are sure to please just about everybody. There are six or seven tennis courts in the Southwest corner of the park. There is one full size basketball court with nets still attached to the the hoops, as wel as several horseshoe courts. There is plenty of grass with shady old growth trees to run around on or to just sit and enjoy one of the outdoor concerts performed from the permanent bandstand. There is a large play structure as well as swings. There is even a rather large water feature to help keep cool on those sizzling Bakersfield summer afternoons. There are picnic tables with barbecue grills spaced around the grassy area of the park, as well as two large semi covered areas with a large number of picnic tables that can be reserved and rented out. There's a little something for everyone at Jastro Park, even a monument to Korean War Veterans on the Southeast corner.Come check out this park for a little summertime in-town getaway fun!

This park has good points and bad ones. I'll start with the good. The toy area had been redone in recent years which is nice. They have covered a few of the main rentable picnic areas with nice shade canopies. They once long ago had a pool here that has been converted into a spray park which operates in the hot summer months. It also has tennis and squash courts as well as a large stage/amphitheater. Now the not so good points. This park has no parking lot which can pose a problem with large events that can occur here putting the neighbors dealing with car not only taking up street spots in front of their house but also blocking their driveways. There is street parking but again if you are trying to get close to one area park goers easily take what's closest at the expense of the neighbors. Second the bathrooms...I know most park bathrooms aren't great but on weekends it would be nice to have them checked a little more frequently as in more than once. There is also something that I'm sure can not be helped too much but this park is near the downtown area which means you will see a homeless population gather here and although it's not as bad as other parks I still would be caught here once it gets dark. A total side note, if you still play Pokémon Go this park now boasts several new stops and two gyms.
