James Sierra Gateway Markets

broke my sons fishing rod and went to Sierra Gateway Market in Kernville looking for a replacement. The gentlemen in the tackle shop made a great recommendation on a new rod and reel which in turn caught us a beautiful trout. Thank you for the help!

Love this store. The meat counter is one of the best around w knowledge butchers. Produce superior and unbelievable stock of beer and spirits. Awesome w friendly staff

You don't need to bring anything to the river, Sierra has it. Hands down makes your river adventure way more enjoyable.

This has been our go to for several years (20 plus) and the staff has always been sooooo good. However yesterday afternoon (Sunday 7/14/24) the lady covering the fishing tackle area was bothered (I'm assuming since she was so rude) I wanted to buy souvenirs for my Granddaughter and she wasn't helpful when asked a question, then when almost ready to check out she told her hurry up come on to counter. I get the multi task with stocking and register , but come on, have some patience! If not don't go into work that day! Everyone in the Market area were fantastic and keep in mind, I have recommended many many people to Kern River and always tell them to stop at James store! Courtesy goes a long way!

This is the place to go to for everything you need when your at kernville. From prepared foods to some of the best sandwiches I've had. They got a whole fishing and camping section and a whole grocery store. Inside the store you can find one of the most refreshing beer caves anywhere. I'm always in there .always end up bringing back some local brews. All the cashiers and workers are so nice and friendly and they make you feel like your a part of their community. Thank you everyone

Encountered expired dairy products 2 times in the past month. When it was James station market it was great, now it has gone down hill. Produce looks sad.

Grew up in this area. Worked in the grocery buisness for a large chain for close to 40 yrs anyone with a negative comment about this store obviously has never worked or knows about what it takes to ge successful...haven't been back in over 30 years but was there on the 7th. I have raised my own meat for the past 30 years. They have the best prices, flavor hamburger and great employees not to mention everything you could imagine and those making comments about prices you haven't a clue. Beautiful store, shelves stocked, and wonderful owner and employees!!! Again you want to complain why not open your own buisness and then you can appreciate what you haven't a clue about...Regards from Melinda Witt

I always buy the fried chicken dinner and this time I tried the Mac n Cheese because it was clearly just made.... It was one of the best I've ever had! My husband and I don't usually eat it. Props to the cook! I'll be back in a few weeks for more

If your headed to the Kern River or Lake Isabella for a vacation or long weekend of fishing, rafting, mountain biking or hiking, there is no need to pack coolers with food, beverages and ice. This market litterally has "IT ALL!! From a complete grocery store, to a 5 Star - butcher shop, beer cave, and extensive wine and liquor. The market also has warm and hot food to go forall occassions, gas and an incredible sportings good / tackle shop!!!! I have been going to this market for years and the ownership (Mark and Cody) is incredible as is the staff who are always willing to assist. I love perusing their wine and liquor as they have anything and everything the hearts desire from $-$$$$$...and I am not kidding (they even have Pappy and Rip Van Winkle Bourbon)!!!! I just returned from a weekend stay and probably stopped by the market 3 or 4 times to pickup items and say hello to all!!! I'll be back in late December an SIerra will be my first stop!!!!!

My stop very year we go camping, they have pretty much everything you might forget to bring along, nice staff.
