This school is not as good as people think. Independence is one of the newer High Schools in town. My son is soon to be attending his 2nd year here as a Sophomore and I haven't had the best experience as a parent. My son is deaf and requires a lot of help and every time I reach out to the special Ed dept to his counselor Ms. Julie and explain my concerns she always speaks of great goals for my child but the outcome is never what she speaks of. My son continues to fail in this school as he doesn't receive the proper help he deserves. The only reason why I don't move him to another HS is because of his disability I don't want to move my child out of his comfort zone. I wish there was better help at this school!!!

I have nothing but good things to say about Independence high school. My son is a senior and my daughter is a freshman and they love their high school. My son has an IEP and the teachers have done an amazing job encouraging him and making sure he has the help that he needs. My daughter is in colorguard and has had an amazing season so far. The teachers reply to emails quickly and make sure the students are successful.

I have a child who attends this school, I will be up front and say that I let my child choose the school. Now there is reasoning behind it before someone states a ridiculous comment that the adult should make the choice. My kid has a disability, if you know me personally you know what that disability is as I should not have to comment on it. My child has faced numerous struggles with support from this school, they have made some staffing changes which also creates those instability frequencies in the program set because perspectives on how things should be handled. The changes have not been drastic but when dealing with a child with a disability those changes can affect even if the change is slight. My wife and I have encountered several issues with the attendance office not properly notating the system to clear absences when my child was not at school. Then we have the issues where teachers marked him absent and it takes so much work to get this cleared, it should not be hard to work with staff to correct an issue like this. My child in a senior now and the attendance issue has carried on from freshmen year until now. No matter where in the chain of commandment were go we do not see any correction at all. There is also the issue that a lot of the staff are extremely rude when dealing with issues. The attendance office do not seem to care and always seem to pass it off to the teachers to handle. I understand the teachers know and students should have responsibility but in the same manner they should help streamline the processes. The secretary is not friendly as well and they are super hesitant to communicate issue up the chain of command. I worked for both small businesses and a large corporation, in both environments communications break down when they are passed through far too many people and sometimes one person between the two who should communicate is too much. Independence High have both good and bad as does every school but most schools do their best to resolve them in a timely manner. When resolved timely, it embraces the environment for education for the kids, the staff and the parents. We all should be working together to provide the best learning environment for our children but it doesn't seem like it is a priority at Independence High School.

My oldest daughter went to this school (she's 21 now) and this school gave me nothing but trouble the entire time she was there. It got so bad that they actually kicked my daughter out (she did something at home and not at school) she ended up THRIVING at CLC and graduating with all A'sMy youngest (who is now a sophomore) entered being in independent study, and did great her freshman year. Sophomore year she got a new teacher and I don't like him very much. He waits until too much time has passed to let me know if my daughter missed work (I know this is on my daughter but the taking too long is what irritates me) he always seems to cop an attitude when I am explaining things to him, and doesn't want to be bothered.I also don't like that he uses caps lock to make a point to my daughter in emails. I will be putting her in regular classes come the fall of '24 I wish there was another independent study teacher besides the current one.
