Hourglass Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection

I intentionally picked this location because of its EV charging station which is not working. I talked to them when I arrived and there was nothing they could do and it seemed like it's been out for a long time so felt very mislead. The hotel itself looks nice and is in a convenient place located near some food, and Costco. It has a nice pool which would be great for the summer. I did have 2 issues with my room card not working but they resolved it quickly. Was not a huge issue but was annoying to have happen. Their staff was super friendly despite all the issues.

Recently stayed here for a week when I was in town. Great hotel and a great location. Close to coffee, stores, food and the HWY. I paid a little extra for early check in since I was beat from traveling. I had a pool view room which was great. The room was large as well as the bathroom. They were both clean. My only compliant is that they didn't clean my room my entire stay except for the first day I was there overnight. It wasn't a huge deal as I am not someone who needs new towels every day but once would have been standard IMO. Staff was nice, hotel was quiet. I never felt unsafe as a solo traveler.

It pains me to only give this hotel 3 stars l, but I'll explain why. We checked in at the last minute due to a horrible experience at another hotel. The gentleman who checked us in was very nice and the room was clean and relatively nice. However, first thing in the morning the toilet clogged and wouldn't flush. There was no reason for it to get clogged if you know what I mean. I called the lobby at about 6 am. A man who was very short and rude answered and abruptly told me that he was the only one on duty for another hour, so there was nothing he could do and hung up. At about 7, we went downstairs to check out the breakfast option, which was Very limited. While there, we spoke to a very nice receptionist, but she again told us we would have to wait another hour until the maintenance man came on duty. By the time he came to our room, we were in the middle of showering and getting ready to check out, so we requested he come back after we check out in about a half an hour. When we checked out, we asked if there was anything that could be done since our bathroom had not been fully functional all morning, but we were kindly told no. I appreciate them getting us a room on a very busy weekend, but $350 for one night and no functional toilet seems unreasonable.

It's a well painted, partially renovated dump. But still a dump. Don't be fooled by the carefully constructed lobby or the wildly misrepresentative photos that only show king suites. Although my room was a decent size, some of the walls were a bit dirty with chipped (cheap) paint, dirty door knobs, and there were some ants near the AC because of the 40 year-old single-pane glass balcony door that bends and lets in cold air and ants. The same aluminum frame balcony door that would not open and was bent and jammed into place (with a non-functional "lock") so it was like I had no balcony at all. So much for my "pool view" And the one-ply toilet paper that's nearly see-through isn't going to get you any fans. (How does that stuff even still exist?) The same as everyone else you'll expect one thing and receive another. Don't bother. Go to the Doubletree or the Marriott next-door.

This was a GREAT hotel for what it is -- that nice midrange where you feel comfortable for the night but it is still a good value.No hidden fees as far as I can tell and the room was spacious, clean, decorated nicely and the entire experience was very good.__Was this a 5 star hotel to go up against premium hotels? No. But I think I want to give it a proper rating for what people would actually use this hotel for. They renovated around the time of the pandemic so that means we are still enjoying the newness. This hotel should be a good value pick for at least 2024.

Great hotel, decent price, very clean room and spotless bathroom. Huge pool with clean area. Very comfortable bed. Wish the pillows were standard size pillows and not small pillows. Our fridge didn't work because the knob to change the temp was missing. Overall very enjoyable stay.

Wish more hotels were as nice as this one! This is my second time staying at this hotel since it was renovated. Big rooms. Clean. Linens are nice. Fridge in room. Good beds. High quality for the price. The pool is beautiful and I enjoy sitting out on my balcony or by the pool reading to relax in the evening. Right next to other hotels and appears to be a safe area. Best TV selection on my trip. Note - they do not provide free bottled water (you can purchase at front desk) so bring your own if this is important to you.

Stayed here while I was in town for work. I must say this hotel was extremely clean and well worth it. For about $130 you cannot beat it . The lobby / reception staff were always very welcoming and polite. Highly recommend it if you are in Bakersfield.

It seems like it's caught between time - fitting for the name. Really interesting mix of technology and ideas.

Super clean. You can see it and smell it! Cleanest hotel I've ever stayed at. Makes me feel so comfortable to stay here. Way better than all the hotels on this road. No bugs or pests! Free continental breakfast and coffee. Beautiful property and pool. Only complaints are deposit is high, although they return it immediately upon checkout, and there are only stairs no elevators. But it's not that bad since the hotel is only 2 floors. Has security. No riff raff. Hotel is tucked into a corner in its own space with a good size parking lot wrapped around it. Front desk service is good they are chill and kind. They give you a free cookie at check in but mines always been very stale. Housekeeping here is just amazing! I look forward to staying there again.
