Really cool farmers market and a great day to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. There were quite a few stalls with fresh produce. We purchased dates, avocados, and purple and yellow carrots. Remember to take your own bags though. The ones that are supplied are small and flimsy. There were some good food stalls as well ranging from tamales to barbecue, along with tee shirts and caps. The lively music and performer were an added touch. Definitely stop by for some good food, fresh produce, and more.

I have to say that I was very impressed with this Farmers Market! The market spans across three stretches in a U shape. Come hungry as there is plenty to choose from. There are a number of fresh food options, along with artisans treats and local arts and crafts. Stand-outs: I enjoyed Jun BBQ. They have authentic Chinese dim sum like shu mai and xiao long bao. So delicious! The tamale stand is also a popular hit. For $5 a tamale, it may feel steep, but they are massive. They also have great goodies like freshly made tortillas and homemade peanut butter without all the added preservatives and junk. I'd recommend getting there early, or at least avoiding coming during the last hour. Many of the vendors sell out so if you want the best choices, come early!

After going to the Hollywood Farmers market early Sunday morning, I decided to explore another farmers market outside the L.A. area. I researched farmers markets in the Bakersfield area (Kern County). One of the largest was the Haggin Oaks Farmers Market. It was rated 4.6. I decided to make the Sunday drive up there. From the Hollywood Farmers Market, it took 75 minutes to reach my destination. There was ample parking all around the market. When I walked in, there were many people there (around 9:30). The market opens at 9:00. One side was farmers, the other side was food vendors. As I turned the corner, it was almost all for vendors. Further down there were vendors selling clothing and soap and other items. The prices from the vendors were high. $4.00 per pound for stone fruits. $7.00 for 3 pounds of russet potatoes. Disappointed I didn't see more farmers. Especially farmers from the Kern County (farmers with the best grapes). DJ's rating: 2.95/5.00Would I come back? Definitely No.

Visiting this neighborhood Farmers Market has quickly become my favorite weekly activity since moving to Bakersfield. Being able to find a lot of the same vendors every Sunday makes it easy to beeline straight to what I've been craving all week and fun enough to try something new at each visit. The market isn't so big that it's overwhelming, but there is a good amount of variety. The prices seem to be about the same if not a bit higher than other farmers markets I've visited in SoCal, and I love supporting local shops and the community. It's definitely a family friendly environment (folx bring their pups!). Here's what's been worth it for me (so far!): a yummy hot chili and cheese tamale ($4 each) from the Tamale stand. It tastes homemade and isn't greasy or heavy at all. The ladies at the stand have great customer service and they come to the farmers market via LA. Make sure to add the salsa verde. The most refreshing and healthy cold pressed juices ($7 each) from Vida Juicery (a vegan restaurant nearby). The green one with ginger is a must try! The pepperoni pizza ($14) from the pizza food truck is pretty good too, it's just a bit on the small side, but perfect if you are looking for a personal pie. Seasoned lightly with a nice herby doughy crust. The freshly baked French baguette ($5) was simply delicious. I brought it home and had it with some butter. Yum! Sadly, I wasn't a fan of the breakfast burrito from Martins because it wasn't prepared well. It was mostly filled with potato and it barely had any eggs or chorizo in it. There is always a line here so maybe I didn't order the right thing? Looking forward to next Sunday!

I was pleasantly surprised at how large and vibrant this farmers market is. There are a wide variety of vendors. Lots of food choices such as Asian, BBQ, Mexican, Greek, Crepes just to name a few. Josie's Micheladas Bloody Mary's centrally located for an adult libation. The fresh vegetable venders produce is amazing. There are of course a few clothing, plant & service vendors. One of my favorites is the face painting booth. Bring your kids this is a very Family friendly event. Every Sunday located in the parking lot of the Kaiser building on Ming Ave.

Lots of local businesses. All the vendors were very kind, friendly, and informative. It was raining when I went and they had a lot of umbrellas lining the lot to keep out of the rain. Not too busy at all. Didn't try any of the food available but it did all smell good LOL
